I play like James Posey. A lot of focus on defense and the occasional three point attempt. I do pass a lot more than Posey and am a bit smaller (10 inches or so). Usually play with guys from 5'8'' to 6'4'', I am between that and for the most part can hold my own on guys from 6'2'' and lower. I do talk a lot of trash at the gym I go to but we all do it just in game, most of us are solid friends outside of the competitive environment.

Used to play ball in middle school and averaged something along the lines of 12/5/3/43%/37%/71%. Forgot the exact numbers. Never tried out for my high school team.

Who do you guys play like? Or think you play like?

Ahahahhh, that reminds me of this game I had when I first started going to the gym (I was a horrible defender, got screamed at constantly by this former division 1 player :facepalm ). I haven't played competitive basketball in years. Hit the game winner and he was like, ok you're alright :coleman: . Things did get better :lol

Pretty well known at my gym as a very streaky shooter. I could hit 4-5 threes a game then barely miss 3-4 threes the next and have like 4 assists but no shots going in.

I have a 6'3" wingspan, play good D and am a pass first player. I'm good at posting up smaller guys (against bigger guys I like to try and tip toe the baseline for easy reverses) and I have a spot up jumper out to about 16-18ft. I like to rebound and start the break because I have funky moves to take advantage of 2-1's and 3-2's but I have trouble finishing at full speed.

My best move is a one handed bounce pass off the dribble.

So Boris diaw on my good days and Luke Walton on the bad ones

Yeah I have the same at about 5'10'' with shoes. Measured it out to be 6'3.5".

Same with me! I botch layups far more often than I should, I usually slow it down dribble away and just throw a quick pass for the bigs on my team cutting. We have this one kid at our gym who has insane hangtime guarding him on the fastbreak is near impossible. Tried taking a charge once, he literally looked like he flew around me :wtf:

Yeah there are some guys at my gym who are nightmares when they drive. One guy warms up with dunking two basketballs in the same motion and do windmills and 360s to warm up. He's some crazy European dude who goes to a university locally. Whenever he's on my team, I try to throw alley oops but they usually result in turnovers and him yelling at me :lol

I modeled a significant portion of my game off of Latrell Sprewell, Grant Hill, and Sean Elliott. I am big on pushing tempo and attacking the basket very aggressively. Amongst current players, I tend to get a sizable amount of Manu Ginobili comparisons. Further, I believe Goran Dragic attacks in a similar fashion to me (his little behind-the-back maneuver is one of my go-to moves).

Also, fun fact: last week I filled in on my brother's rec team over in metro Detroit. Broke into the open floor on one possession, saw a defender already back on defense. I'm used to a player in that position either stopping ball or trying to lure me into a charge. It's at that point I usually Euro or attack and draw a foul.

Instead, the defender just stood still. Didn't move. Like his feet were stuck in cement. It was genius. My brain short circuited and it led to this:

I'm only 5'11 but I like to play in the post and i've become decent at post work and mid range jumpshooting/fadeaways. I've been told I have a similar game to David Lee's. If I try to be a guard, I probably resemble Tony Parker the most - cutting off screens, floaters, mid range work, etc. Very average athleticism/strength

I'm only average at ball overall though. I just started playing again after a two year hiatus when I played for the school

Milbuck
06-28-2014, 12:58 AM
Rondo. Physically I'm not that big (6'1" 170), but I'm pretty quick. Got good handles and vision, usually run the offense. I can't shoot at all though so I'm not much of a scorer at all, most of my points come at the rim through occasional drives, offensive rebounds, or in transition. I'm a pretty good defender, less because of skill and more because I have really long arms. My biggest similarity with Rondo, even moreso than the awful jumpshot and passing ability, is that I'm extremely obnoxious on the court. I talk a lot of shit, and I'm surprised I haven't been punched in the face multiple times for it.

-Below the rim.
-Don't play defense unless I have the opportunity to weakside block.

-Pumpfake wide open shots to take contested fadeaways.
-Ambidextrous

-Trouble making easy layups, tho make stupid circus shots surprisingly often.
-Nice vision. Can't make the passes.
-Straight on 3 > Corner 3s
-Love setting dirty screens.

weak version of tony allen maybe. Back when I played I was short and a good defender, used to gets steals like crazy and run the break quicker than everyone the only problem was half the time I'd brick the lay up, there was quite a bit of trick or treat with me but I passed more than Allen and ran the point. I'm a better finisher and shooter these days but I'm not fit or quick any more.

The op was implying that he traveled.

Also I have a new self-comparison. Blake griffin...if he could only barely touch the rim lol. I'm 5'11+long arms and a lean 170lbs so I can take a lot of contact and I only ever shoot jumpers when my defender completely plays off me. Otherwise I'm facing up or posting up. I'm actually a good athlete, bball just wasn't my sport growing up so my vert sucks. I was a water polo player

I have never shot a pull up jumper in a game. Closest I've come is a 1 dribble post turnaround jumper (and I like to fake and shake like Kobe on those).

I played with a ~6'4" dirk clone the other day. Kid couldn't keep the ball after 2 dribbles but his jumper was literally copied from dirk and I never got close to blocking him. I have a little pet move where I dribble to the right, jump stop, and throw up a 6-8 foot bank shot floater and if they bite I just go up and under. It gave him fits lol. I can palm a playground ball off the dribble without touching it with my left hand and it let's me do some funky moves

Maybe Wade with a slightly better jump shot? I love slashing and getting to the hoop in any way imaginable but can be streaky shooting the three so sometimes I'll abandon that part of my game and just focus on creating lanes to the basket for myself and/or teammates.

Plus I'm a little guy (5'11,160) but can get rim level or higher and I'm not afraid to challenge shots defensively, I have trouble man-to-man usually but can play lanes well and block shots surprisingly well.

No offense, but guy was frozen because you took 3 to 4 steps.Yeah, like Ralph mentioned above, I was heavily implying that I traveled ("My brain short circuited", "I call it the double Euro-step."). That is the only reason I posted it - because it was so awful. I thought some might find it to be a humorous visual.

Interesting postscript: I took four to five steps and it was the worst display of footwork I've ever exhibited, but somehow no travel was called on the play. I almost gave up and didn't even jump because I thought it was an easy call (and again, terrible footwork on my part). I even apologized to my opponents for a travel not being whistled.

Doing the Euro-Step in men's leagues with real referees is already pushing the limits of what most consider a travel or not.
Edit: Regarding a legitimate Euro-step though, I do not believe it's really pushing the limits anymore, even in casual rec leagues. Maybe in 2004, but I do not recall a time in the last ten years I've been whistled for a walk on a Euro when I execute it normally, and it's a move I rely upon with semi-regularity. I think it has just about fully ingrained itself into basketball across all levels.

Tony Allen on defense
Ray Allen on offense.

I can shut anyone down on defense, or at least stay in front of em.
And on offense Im really a SG in a pgs body, but I like being on the wing and running around baseline screens alot better. Deadly jumper.

Ill can play Pg but only if I have to. In other words, if the other guys keeps turning it over or being a ballhog etc..

The more I think about it, the more my playing style is really just a ripoff of Pau Gasol, early Lakers version. The way I approach the game is almost exactly the same.
