What the hell is half a Puerto Rican anyway? Aren't Puerto Ricans just a mish-mash of Spanish, Indians and Africans?

Yes but that could be said about all of latin america:facepalm:

But every country that was controlled by Spain have their own culture and their own identity.

He was raised by his mother who is from Puerto Rico. I don't think that he speaks Spanish. It's so funny because in the states basketball isn't popular with Puerto Ricans but in Puerto Rico it's totally popular. If you ask a Puerto Rican here who Piculin is they'd have no idea.

he will probably brush up on his spanish roots then.

he can take a quick little relaxing weekend cruise down to puerto rico from miami whenever he likes

If he's never been there I'm not sure what he would be doing there other than behaving like a tourist. Because you are of an ethnicity doesn't mean you can just "brush up" on it and become that. I don't think that I'm going to be going to Wales anytime soon to brush up on my Welsh Gaelic and be accepted like I grew up there.

Yeah but what I'm saying is that there's a huge disconnect between "Puerto Rican" culture in the states and actual Puerto Rican culture. You would think because basketball is so popular in the states that more Puerto Ricans in the states would have an interest but it's not true at all. A Puerto Rican here wouldn't know Wes Correa or Orlando Vega if they hit him over the head.

I agree with this. That could be said about everything local here though. Most US born puertorricans don't know anything we islanders do outside the US either. Thats why we treat them as americans or outsiders and not puertorricans.

What was dumb. Balkman playing on out national team? Why is that dumb? Even if his Iq is low his talent helped us a lot to qualify for the upcoming tournament.

It's dumb to me because although he may be Puerto Rican, it would be like me playing for Wales or Ireland. He's never lived there and doesn't speak Spanish. It's almost as bad as Blatche playing for the Philippines. Honestly, Puerto Rico has a history of playing well in international play and as someone who has lived there, I liked it better winning without him. I think Wes Correa is from NY but played in PR for years and while his Spanish was kinda hilarous at times, the dude was Puerto Rican. People jumping countries for athletics is dumb to me. Like Bahrain buying Kenyans like Stephen Cherono to run for them. Obviously, that's not the case with Balkman but he's Puerto Rican in name only. He's from NYC and it's just lame to me.

From the center of Mexico it's to the east and slightly south. So it would be considered east not south of Mexico.
