and athleticism
Why do GMs continue to do this. The players that are considered talented and with significant longevity are all players with IQ and play with fundamentals.
i.e. steve nash, kobe, duncan, allen
Players not known for their athleticism out of the draft, but was high in fundamentals.
These guys play much better than draft prospects like allen iverson, marbury, francis, and a bunch of other boneheads

Nash is such an underrated athlete. Clearly doesn't belong on that list of sloths.

wade is done after being 30. he was gifted a 2006 ring and 2 others from bran, westbrook will probably follow a francis route, rose...who is this guy?
Kobe and Allen were great athletes. Take them off the list.

they were exceptional, but nothing outstanding like a rose, westbrook, or iverson when drafted

Rose Westbrook and Iverson are all MVP caliber players. You honestly arent making a point by bringing them up.

How exactly can you not win with Rose and Westbrook? OKC is literally one competent coach away from being a dynasty. If we're talking purely about their games and ignoring injuries, Chicago would have been contending for the past 3 seasons with a healthy Rose, and could be contending next year if they add just another offensive weapon or two. Hell, Iverson's 2001 Sixers with just one more capable scorer could've been a championship team if they didn't have to play the GOAT playoff team.. You can definitely win with those guys, you just need to know how to build around them.

Kobe was a great athlete his first 2-3 years, then he became really slow but actually played better

Kobe was a great athlete for most of his career. I dont know where the narrative Kobe isnt athletic came from. This guy could run and jump.
Only year he looked real slow was last year after the Achilles.

your acting like every draft has a player with high basketball fundamentals at every position though....
if the choice is between a project with basic skills and poor athleticism or a project with lower skills and elite athleticism and size it's easier to teach that athlete enough fundamentals to be a good pick than it is to teach the average skilled low athletic player how to be more athletic and how to be bigger. And saying wade was done at 30 is silly as well, if you pick someone in the draft your happy for them to turn into an elite player for any length of time. If you get 5 years of elite play out of a guy that's still a good return on a draft pick

Me personally I would feel uncomfortable drafting a guy as a high pick that will just be a project. These guys that come out after 1 year or out of high school before more often take time. They need time to develop. They are drafted on "potential". Drafting a guy based off athletic ability and how big their hand and head etc are..doesn't say anything. I would rather have a guy that will play right away and contribute. A guy that you know what you are getting from. Not crossing your fingers and hoping things work out. Unless the guy is a prodigy or is way ahead of everyone and has an NBA game than nope. I would draft projects later like in the 2nd round or late 1st if I have multiple picks.

I would say a lot has to do with pace of the professional level.
it's why people also refrain from drafting great college scorers
with players that don't have great raw talents
coaches/GM are concerned on whether or not they can even keep them on the floor
with players that have great raw talents that don't pan out
coaches/GM scratches their head as to how they can't develope certain skill sets and implement them into the actual game.
but then there are players who just don't really care after they got paid.
