View Full Version : Report: James, Wade, Bosh discussing terms of new contract together

http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamiheat/story/_/id/11152348/lebron-james-dwyane-wade-chris-bosh-discuss-potential-contract-terms

After agreeing to all opt out of their contracts together, Miami Heat stars LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade have been discussing financial terms of new contracts amongst each other, sources told ESPN.com.

James, 29, has never been the single highest-paid player on his team in his 11-year NBA career.

Wow

The last option is that the Heat stars could all take moderate pay cuts and stagger their salaries at different levels. This would likely not leave significant cap space but it would take the Heat below the luxury tax line and enable them up to use the full mid-level exception of $5.3 million and the biannual exception of $2 million to bring in multiple role players.

So Miami will have cap to bring in a guy or two of quality and then use the MLE AND Bi annual excel for good role players. Fill out the roster with minimum guys.

If he doesn't, his 2/5 will stand until he retires.

He's not sacrificing anything, hes trading money for a chance to improve his finals record.

It's only illegal for teams to discuss any sort of terms with players prior to the free agency period, not players themselves... Unless one player is still under contract right? Because that player could be seen as acting as an agent for the team they're still under contract with?

Derka
06-29-2014, 11:36 AM
See, I don't mind that as much.

Freeing up space to bring in a superstar...pretty f*cking weak.

Freeing up space to bring in a midlevel and a biannual...nothing terrible about that.

something shady is going on in miami. you don't just leave 40 mill on the table unless the plan is already drawn up before you opt out.

06-29-2014, 11:59 AM
Why even have Pat Riley if LeBron is going to control all the big shots? He's already working out contract plans not just for him but two other teammates, he was responsible for drafting Shabazz, etc.

There's nothing shady about it...GMs and players of same team can talk about this.

Remember when the Spurs convinced R-Jeff to opt out of his last year or two and ended up giving him a 4 year deal or so? Same thing here. Long term stability for the player, short term cap flexibility for the team.

yeah i get all that. but are the heat going to be comfortable giving wade and bosh 15 mill for the next 4 or 5 years? only way i can see making up for the fact they just walked away from 40 million over the next 2 seasons. not even sure that would make up for it tbh.

There's definitely something shady going on with the Heat players opting out of their contracts. Udonis Haslem was set to make 4 million this year, but he opts out and if he takes a 2 year vet min the NBA should definitely investigate. Riley and co. probably promised him a position with the organization after he retires.

55m allows more than 1-2 players to come into play.

I expect 4 players coming in ,
PG
Center

With 3 serious role players.

I still believe a grizz shooter will be back for one more run.

Hawyes , Gortec, and even a trade for Sanders from the Bucks could happen.

2-3 available PG's with game are available. I expect a splash there.

Honest question how come the wolves were stripped away from so many picks and to the collusion team nothing happens?

It's ok to agree to join other team months before FA? It's ok to leave so much money on the table because you are going to be paid under the table?

if you want to start on being paid under the table, look at the Nets with Prok and AK47.

as for Lebron...he's the highest endorsing NBA player currently, all to go with his $20mil contract. he doesn't need to be paid under the table

and neither does Wade, he's on $100mil contract with LiNing over a 10yr span...then comes his NBA salary

only one isn't raking in $$$ is Bosh, who doesn't have much endorsements like Wade and Lebron...but Bosh could care less because he's all about WINNING!

and it's funny how many of you say Wade is washed up and Bosh is garbage and then Lebron is the best player in the NBA...then when Miami signs them at such:

Lebron - max contract, or very close to it
Bosh - $15mil, paid pretty appropriately...maybe slightly over
Wade - $12-13mil, overpaid IMO

where exactly is the "disgrace" many of you are whining about? :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm

It's kinda sad really. First he diluted the talent pool making sure he'd have a easy ride to the Finals 4 years in a row, and now that he comes off a loss in the Finals, he is demanding once again upgrades all around him. Obviously the game's best player will accept nothing less than a super stacked team to play on for the rest of his career. Basically, he is trying to buy himself into the GOAT discussion, but doesn't realize that by doing it this way he can never ever achieve such a status.

were you sad when Pippen and MJ went after the best rebouder/defense player in Rodman?

were you sad when Shaq/Kobe warranted the signings of Malone/Payton?

were you sad when Garnett teamed with Pierce and Ray Allen?

were you sad when Dwight ok'd the trade to LAL to be alongside Kobe and Gasol?

It was an implicit condition of MJ's 95' return that the Bulls not trade Pippen for a younger star (i.e. Kemp). MJ also demanded Pippen, Jackson, Rodman be retained in subsequent years until Krause broke the team up after the 98' season. Is that "collusion" because the best player in the game wanted a stacked team?

This is interesting.....

I think James will stay for sure and get his max deal.

My question is Wade and Bosh. They would have to take pay cuts...and even if they do that with LeBron getting the max they really have no $$$ to sign any help.

Wade is ailing...Bosh is still good.

I don't see this current Heat team winning another title if they sign back.

As long as Wade and Bosh are the main parts of the Big 3, they ain't winning shit. I don't care what mid level type players they snag. Wade looks to be on his last legs and Bosh is a spot up shooter at this point. They need to change the core of the 'Big 3', bringing in Lowry, an above average big and some bench help not gonna change the dynamic of that decrepit team.

I don't blame LeBron for asking for max money. He's clearly been the best player so far and he's the one carrying the team day n night. He deserved it. He already sacrificed money in the past and he's got the titles. He really doesn't have any incentive to not take max money.
Oh and it's not a bitch move to ask for more money. It's an alpha move.

Wonder how Wade and Bosh will take this.
