Do you think pre-injury Derrick Rose was the best PG in the league?

CP3 and Rondo were just as good

Do you think pre-injury Derrick Rose was the best PG in the league?

I thought he may have had the possibility to be better than Allen Iverson

I'm giving credit to his efficiency here.

He was the most impactful player playing the PG position, if that's a good enough answer.

Depends on what you mean, as far as point guard skills go, not really. But as a scorer? definitely.

Ideally, I wouldn't have him run my team, but he was performing at a higher level than any other point.

Was he the best player that played the PG position? Yes.

Was he the best PG? No

Oh yeah. His quickness and athleticism was unmatched for a 6'0" PG

Too bad he'll be like DWade from now on... :(

How is Westbrook considered the best of in the league bUt ppl still acting like rose isn't a pg. I guess guys like Ryan Anderson aren't power forwards because they shoot threes.

Not only did he have more responsibilities,
Rose had more control of the game,
scored more points in the paint,
team had the best team perimeter defense,
had the best record in the league despite noone having more obstacles,
complete domination of the elite teams the last four months of the year, despite numerous challenges, major injuries, new team.
only player in top ten in scoring/assist,
Rose thoroughly outplayed the best at his position mano-a-mano,
and MVP

I can't think of another player having that type of domination at any position in quite a bit.

And Rose did it in classic fashion. At first he was compared to Tyreke who had a great 20/5/5 rookie campaign but that was put to rest quickly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ww5ztz9nfM

Billups was able to bully even Deron Williams who was one of the biggest point guards at the time. Couldn't budge Rose in his MVP campaign. In fact just backed off of him. It was the first time I noticed how strong Rose was. Then I noticed Kidd couldn't use his strength on him either.

Westbrook always had problems with Rose in the beginning, and would start the game on Rose and would be taken off of him in favor of Sefalosha later on. Westbrook, really developed after the injury to Rose. They were workout buddies in Cali. Here is a game Rose took over and put the Bulls on his back and beat OKC. Some of Rose's moves in this game were crazy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkp_IeN10k8

Then Rondo who was noted for his defense got thoroughly outplayed in nearly every game the distance between the two was highlighted. Rondo did have one good game that year against Rose. Rose ended the year with a 30 to 7 romp (Rondo shot 3 for 10) with Rose having two assist. While this isn't from the MVP year its a a good video of both players - Rose's first post season game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At_yXMWYuCo

Deron Williams was battling Chris Paul for awhile for the top spot. Derrick Rose never had problems with Deron even from the Utah days. But in 2011 Rose was swatting away layups and stealing the ball from him at half court. Deron was still a baller in 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9LIA_D4gRE

Chris Paul show down was a bit delayed. Rose did outplay him in Feb of 2011 but it was kind of anticlimatic. A year later it was quite a show. In a close game with about six to go (tied) Chris Paul puts on a show with his dribbling skills. It kind of unnerves Rose who takes over the game where he erupts late to blow the game open. Rose 29/16 was bigger than the numbers suggest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFRrAM7O1Ko

So yes Rose was the Best point guard before the injury especially when one considers he was proving it an winning at the same time without a top ten player in any productive category or any allstars.

The MVP isn't even always the best player as we all know lebron, Dwight, and cp3 had cases over him. I'd even say Wade as well.

well, according to this post.

NO ONE would have guessed this guy had only played about 260-270 games prior to his injury.

There is absolutely no argument for CP3 or Wade that season. I don't think he deserved MVP at all but he was easily ahead of those two.

With point guards it usually takes awhile. I agree. Westbrook is on his game now while being six years deep. Rose was making big improvements every year but unfortunately the injuries came along.

Jordan didn't win the MVP in years when he was clearly the Best player on earth. Rose didn't let his team lose. DH was useless against the better teams despite many times being the best player in the game. Rose won more games than Lebron and Wade did together. And Rose was a more significant player against elite teams then they were too. There are other key factors involved.

Chris Paul was the better point guard, traditionally. But Rose was the best basketball player at that position. If that makes any sense. And no, Westbrook now isn't better than Rose was in 2011. Derrick even if slow off the court, is a much superior decision maker, and has better feel for the game.
