I didn't pay much attention to the SA WC. I was used to a Dutch side playing an attacking style but I gather with Van Gaal they've changed their style to this park the bus and counter ugly soccer. I hope Mexico scores first to get them to play forward.

thats only from 1 season! Those seem a little more obvious to me, where he's just flailing in the air and faking when no contact exists at all. Today, it looked like he at least had his foot stepped upon. I was wondering if that is enough for a penalty call.

That said, I was pulling for my ancestry (Dutch) but it wasn't easy to see Mexico get their hearts broken.

Was hard to tell. If he hit him in the foot than yes, but I couldn't tell if he did or not. Either way, Robben is a flopping piece of shit.

Why were there 6 minutes of extra time anyway? Even if we count the 2:30 minutes of cooling break, there were still not enough breaks to warrant 6 minutes of stoppage time. Not a single Mexican was wasting time.

JimmyMcAdocious
06-29-2014, 02:09 PM
Same with basketball. You don't call the exaggerated flop, even if there's some resemblance of a foul at the end of the game. Let them decide it on the field/court.

Robben = Harden

Euro *******s = Euro *******s

DeuceWallaces
06-29-2014, 02:09 PM
Don't like to win it on a touch foul, but at least it makes up for the no call in the first. You sit back for a 30 minutes and let RVP, Robben, Sneijder, etc. run at you and get several set pieces you'll end up losing.

Tbh the ref sucks. Missed obvious calls on both ways. We let Netherlands have too many corners tho, eventually they were going to score. Missed a couple easy scoring opportunities as well.

The flopping is understandable since it's the only way to grab the refs attention

Grinder

Of course Marquez loses Mexico the game. So fitting.

Those bashing Robben for embellishing the contact, ask yourself it he ref would have given the penalty had he stayed on his feet and stumbled. If he doesn't make the most out of it, he's not going to get the call when in fact it was a clear penalty. Marquez can't be making challenges like that in the box especially when Robben was contained with 3 Mexican defenders around him.

Congrats to the Mexicans on a successful tournament that was made possible by San Zusi.

the first half was so freaking boring i turned off the tv and went out.. this is definitely the last half i will miss
just watched the highlights, there is a penalty IMO and robben obviously jumped like he was shot. nothing new here

chile and mexico played a great tournament and maybe deserved to make the 1/4 but in the end its for the best if the best nations are there in the end.. uruguay was the surprise in 2010, in the end they were 4th.. same for korea in 2002-4th and turkey-3rd, croatia in 1998-3rd etc etc.. they wont in. ok maybe greece can :oldlol:

so 4 great nations in the semis is always better than 1 great and 3 surprises.. for ex. NL, brazil, germany and argentina this year.

Ugly ugly win, but I will take it. Netherlands is even less threatening with Verhaegh and Kuyt as the fullbacks in this system, both don't provide much going forward. So I hope not to see it again. Not to see Verhaegh again at least.

Mexico kind of dropped the ball by changing to a more conservative system after their goal, which Van Gaal (with the extra water breaks) abused to full effect I must say. Mexico got lucky with the no-call a couple of times but in the end there comes a time you have to give the penalty. Can't just keep hacking in the box.

Nigel de Jong getting injured is a huge, huge loss for our team.

Anyway, happy it's not going to be that hot for the next game.

I dont understand why people keep arguing about the second penalty when in reality if the first penalty was given like it should have been, the score would have still been the same.

I am amazed that the ref missed the first penalty because he was fouled TWICE, and he let it go, yet he decided to call something like this.

Personally I think once they went into halftime, ref realized he messed up and this was him correcting his mistake from earlier on. What did the Mexicans expect, to get lucky twice?

They need to blame themselves for that stupid second half that they played. After they scored, they pretty much stopped attacking and just sat there and waited for Netherlands to score. How many corner kicks did Netherlands have, obviously one of them is going to end up being a goal.

Pretty amazed the Dutch are allowed to kick mexicans in the head in the penalty box and not get penalties+get all these extra water breaks to make up for their weak European lungs.

its not like mexicans were running sprints while holland was resting..

painful loss tho, cant really imagine how mexicans as a nation are feeling.. .

If you bend over in the box expect to get kicked in the face.

NL could have had 3 penalties called tbh yeah it was a flop but clear penalty

blame marquez' retarded ass, how can you make that mistake you're the supposed leader of the team.

dos Santos and Sneijder's goals tho

Hey, you can foul and rough up players if the game is meaningful and it's late. Let them play!

:whatever:

I actually do think this is acceptable. You call fouls more closely throughout most of the game because you dont want a bunch of little things accumulating and making things more and more chippy. I feel towards the end of the game, you shouldnt be as quick with the whistle. Obvious fouls, of course get called. But as the game moves to a climax, let the men battle. You dont necessarily have to call the kind of fouls that "keep the order" throughout most of the game.

That said, a trip in the box is a whistle at any point in the match. Im just speaking generally.

Not to the Dutch standard. Both teams struggled in the first half. It got good after Mexico scored with Netherland dominating. Some good chances we had until Sneijder equalized.

It was really our worst game yet, but I don't want to discount the heat. Players looked very lethargic in the first 45 minutes.

They played with more energy the first three games. It was as of they were down by 1 in every game in the group stages and they showed some urgency. Now, it was like they were waiting for Mexico to score.

Hopefully we put a better display against Costa Rica.

This. The one we actually got was shit, but there was one earlier in the game that was 100% a penalty, and another that was 50/50 so any complaining is wasted air.

Dutch taking this shit, too easy.

So has Arjen Robben been the best player of the WC so far? I think so.

The amazing speed, balance, dribbling and agility combination is one I can say I have never seen before. How does this guy move like that is mind blowing to me.

This team would be nothing without Robben leading us.

However, so far, Hames has been the best player.

messi and robben are more valuable to their teams though..
i think colombia would have found a way to make the 1/4 even without james

With Rodriguez scoring the goal of the tournament, no less.

yeah he has the top two goals of the tournament IMO, the jinky run+chip vs Japan was nicer then Cahill's volley, and the volley vs Uruguay is hands down the best goal so far.

Obviously what happens when the real powerhouses face each other in the knockout stage will determine whoever is the player of the tournament.

With all due respect, playing well in the group stage or deciding a game against Mexico or a gimped Uruguay will be barely factor into the discussion once the tournament is over.

well argentina without messi would have drawn iran, draw or lost to nigeria and its debatable what would have happened against bosnia probably another draw..
you could say the same for NL..
colombia had a rock solid defense so far, their fullbacks offer a shitload offensively, their central mids have been great (so good that guarin and quintero are rooting on the bench), and cuadrado is looking like ronaldinho out there.. not to mention that their strikers are actually scoring.. they have like 11 goals so far
