You are.
You are.
England is out. Great Britain has no more representation in the world cup. In the past when a Scot won Wimbledon, he considered the victory for Great Britain a victory for England. Now he has no choice but to consider any European victory a victory for England.
Oh, he's rooting against Greece?

For someone that doesn't really follow soccer, I'm guessing during free kicks like this, the best the goalie can do is essentially guess correctly, right? I mean I don't see how a goalie, with skill and talent alone, stands much of a chance in a net that big against world class soccer players from that close to goal.

Is it though? I mean sure, I guess a goalie at this level has somewhat got guessing down to a "skill", but unless you've actually practiced against these players taking free kicks, and have had time to pick up on their subtle tendencies, it's still a guessing game for the goalie.

Why can't you guys develop one offensive talent?
Also, is Ghazaryan expected to start for Oly?
There is more offensive talent than a few years ago but Santos prefers hardworking, "gritty" players and by hiring Ranieri the federation probably wants to follow the same path.
He's not expected to make the bench.

Interesting.
I've heard he's expected to be a regular in the starting XI?

Unlikely since no one here had even heard his name before we signed him and everyone's angry demanding real transfers.
He might end up playing regularly though, our management can be pretty tight with money and there is no domestic opposition worth talking about.
Since you seem to know him, is he any good?

What's your opinion on Santos? He's pretty disliked over here in Portugal.

He really isn't that much of a coach. With his substitutions we had 3 strikers upfront and 2 veterans in the midfield, we were just hoofing it from behind after costa rica got the red. Also he shows obvious preference for some of the players he previously coached like Katsouranis or Salpingidis even when they're way past it.
But people's opinion of him depends on which team they support. Santos has coached every major greek team except Olympiacos and is known for his defensive mindset. Olympiacos on the other hand sacked Jardim a couple years back with the team undefeated in the league, because his setup was too defensive.
My opinion of him is bad but you'll find some other guy who sings his praises.
Edit: Come to think of it, Jardim, Santos, Mourinho. Why doesn't anyone give more shit to Portugal for the coaches it produces? They all seem to hate football with a passion.

I'm going based off a Twitter back and forth I had:

Not sure if that is a reliable source or not :confusedshrug:
I'm not sure how much you may know about the Armenian NT but after our three main guys (Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Yura Movsisyan & Aras Ozibilis), Gev is arguably our fourth best offensive wing/mid option, and the most consistent player we have after those three and our keeper.
He has a high motor, challenges every ball, and scores a lot of poacher type goals by positioning himself at the right place. He isn't a great player, but definitely a serviceable option.
The transfer came out of left field for me as well, but from everything I gathered, Oly was impressed by him with during the Germany friendly, and I've also heard speculation that they followed him since Armenia's Euro 2012 qualifying cycle where he scored five goals, tied for second in the group with Keane, & top 15 overall.

Yeah, that's the most common gripe people have with him. He plays too defensive, but one could argue it's the best setup considering the talent at his disposal (no offence).
Jardim coached my favourite team last year and did a fantastic job, so I don't really see him as someone that implements a style that's too defensive. Actually the reasoning for him being sacked over here in Portugal is that he banged the president's wife. :lol
Edit: I didn't undertand your edit, lol.

That would imply we have a working scouting unit which would surprise me.
From your description he sounds ok, we could use him as we like to press high up the field. We would probably need a purely offensive outlet from the other side though if he's not that skillful.

Jardim was too defensive with us and there were boos at the halftime and at the end of every single match for months.
Fetfatzidis ahead of Salpingidis on the right and Samaris instead of Katsouranis would be no-brainers for me. Admittedly, we don't have many fancy players but even if you're a little fancy Santos gets suspicious and dislikes you.
And Mitroglou didn't get to show it this world cup -he's played very few matches these past six months- but he's divine and for a long time he couldn't even come close to becoming first option in the NT.

Costa Rica possibly had the best penalty taking I ever witnessed. They seemed confident as ****.

Yeah I thought that too. The last two weren't unstoppable though.
Is it though? I mean sure, I guess a goalie at this level has somewhat got guessing down to a "skill", but unless you've actually practiced against these players taking free kicks, and have had time to pick up on their subtle tendencies, it's still a guessing game for the goalie.
It's not a skill, it's about doing your homework. Nice guardian article about that:
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2006/jul/03/worldcup2006.sport11
The full story of Lehmann's preparation emerged yesterday. He won the 1997 Uefa Cup with Schalke against Internazionale after making a penalty save. His manager at Schalke was Huub Stevens, who is responsible for a personal database of 13,000 penalty kicks. Lehmann used this archive against Inter and, prior to the Argentina game, he telephoned Stevens.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper already had the benefit of the German FA's database - they had copied Stevens' approach - and having collated the information about who takes Argentina's penalties and how they take them, Germany's goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke wrote it on a piece of paper ripped from a hotel notepad. On it was written details such as "[Julio] Cruz - stand tall, don't move, dive right".
For Argentina's second penalty-taker, Roberto Ayala, it said: "Ayala - look at shooting foot, left low." Sure enough, Ayala placed the ball low to Lehmann's left and it was advantage Germany.
Looking forward to facing Costa Rica in the quarters ^^.
