'96-97 best year. 24.2 PPG 4.6 RPG 6.3 apg 1.7 spg on 48.8%.

Played in your face on both ends. Didn't back down from anyone. FONky fONky fONky.

He played D and ran the floor great. Had to be one of the worst dribblers of all time and a spotty shooter at best. Fun in Golden State kinda boring once he got to the Knicks. He needed to be on a fast break team. Watching him try to dribble in the half court was just brutal.

I love Sprewell, but wasn't he a one foot dunker. Didn't he jump off of one leg and then dunk with two. I think he used to do that on fastbreaks. One of my favorite dunks, so I always see him as a one leg jumper, because normally when a player dunks it with two hands they jump off of two feet.

I love this dunk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDrJoTTo8_c

My point was basically that I always thought of him as a one foot type of dunker because of the dunk that I described, since it's not the norm to jump off of one foot. It just gives me that POV, but he's still definitely a great two feet jumper.

It's just hard to explain what I mean. Because I just realized that it sounds as if I'm saying that he only jumps off of one foot. I just mean that when I think of Sprewell dunking I think of that one foot dunk, because it sticks out the most to me, while the two foot dunks, while more common, it's more fundamental so I don't think anything of it.

Why blame it on Ewing? Marcus Camby was putting up similar numbers to Ewing and led the finals in win shares. Spreewell simply choked when it mattered the most.

Spree at his best was a freak athlete capable of playing and defending PG, SG, and SF. Good for 24 a night while providing lockdown caliber defense. In terms of two-way SG's, I think Sprewell has a case in the top 10-top 15 of all time. U got guys like MJ, Kobe, West, Wade, Moncrief, Dumars, and Ginobli. From there, Spree's name HAS to come up very soon. And another sleeper two-way SG from Spree's era was Eddie Jones!

Spinners were a definitive trend of 2000s hip-hop, and they even found their way onto sneakers thanks to Latrell Sprewell and Dada. Sprewell started a brand that made spinning rims for cars and his sneakers sported the same rotating car part. What's even crazier is that Dada was willing to invest in Sprewell and make him the face of their brand even after he had choked out his coach, P.J. Carlesimo, in 1997.

One month into the 2005-06 season and without a contract, Sprewell's agent, Bob Gist, said his client would rather retire than play for the NBA minimum salary, telling Sports Illustrated, "Latrell doesn't need the money that badly. To go from being offered $7 million to taking $1 million, that would be a slap in the face." Several days later, Gist said that Sprewell planned to wait until "teams get desperate" around the trade deadline in February, and then sign with a contending team (an eventuality that never materialized). Gist said that Sprewell would not be interested in signing for any team's $5 million mid-level exception, calling that amount "a level beneath which [Sprewell] would not stoop or kneel!"

In March 2006, Sprewell was offered contracts by the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs, both of whom were considered at the time to be strong favorites to win the NBA Championship, but Sprewell failed to respond and remained a free agent as the season came to a close.

He was a fan fav here in NYC when the Knicks were making deep runs in the playoffs.

But he was pretty dumb for rejecting easy money contracts. Heard he had to sell off all his cars. Wish him nothing but the best though.

I don't know who advises these idiots, and I can't tell if that was his agent dictating on who he should sign with and how much, or him. Either way, a good agent tells him to sign that $5 million contract because it couldn't hurt. Bad agent + terrible advice from his entourage + extremely extravagant spending = broke after a few years.

If the Spurs had signed Spree, do they win another ring?

People would treat the Spurs a lot differently if they had a 3-peat under their belt. 5 rings over 15 years doesn't pack the same punch.

I don't remember what happened in the WC playoffs that year. Who did the Spurs lose to?

It's still a weird story to me. I respect his pride, but he still had another 2 good years left in him. I mean good years, not Mike Miller in Miami years. I would have him retire before that point. How many guys would refuse 5 million dollars, and then later that same year refuse a great chance at a title?

I hope he's doing ok. Didn't seem like the most stable individual. Hope he's not in Stephon Marbury mode.
