He is a classy player who still had his moments last year where he looked like an elite defender of his past. In the Clippers series I think in one sequence he ripped the ball from CP3 and then went down and scored and then stole it instantly on the inbound pass leading to a Westbrook 3 which pretty much ended the Clippers hopes that game.

And before last year he had two straight seasons of 40%+ from the 3pt line so I'd just hope he regains that.

Regardless of everything he's a great lockerroom guy and a hard worker who will set the example for others

People also need to remember that the salary cap is growing a significant amount each year so that is affecting the deals some of these players are getting.

I personally think he'd fit better in the Hawk's system. Danny Green wasn't good in the cavs, went to spurs and played much better. Granted, he's a younger player still improving, but maybe Sefolosha just didn't wanna play for the Thunder anymore and it effected the way he played.

You don't just become a bad shooter out of nowhere and you don't lose your footwork in a couple years.

I think it's a OKAY signing, not bad or good.

Example: The year before DeMarre Carroll came to atlanta, he shot 28% from 3. This year he shot 36%. I think the system will work for Sefo.

If he continues his awful play from the playoffs though, it was a really bad move. I will reserve further judgement on it until I see how Ferry's diabolical master plan plays out.

It's not a bad deal by any means, but it actually makes that meeks signing not nearly as bad for example.

If Thabo is worth 4 a year...than Meeks should be getting roughly 6.5 a year. Meeks is a much better player than Thabo and will likely only get better.

That is what makes valuation of players so hard.

That's what the Hawks need him to regain. It's not a big contract $$ per year but still. I'm skeptical and that's why I was really hope the Raptors wouldn't chase him.

IMO, one dimensional players like him whose only good skill being perimeter defense just aren't worth much in today's NBA. With perimeter defense being neutered by very strict rules, it's tough to not have something else that you can do at an above-average level.

1. The Hawks must have talked to Deng and maybe his asking price is too much.

2. Sefosha, when healthy, is a clear upgrade over DeMarre Carroll and (certainly Cartier Martin). The Hawks can keep both Sefolosha and Carroll and have some depth at the 3, although neither is an All-Star.

3. Sefolosha had a calf injury, so let's hope he comes back healthy.

4. The Hawks had 16.5 million in cap space prior to this signing, plus can get another 3 million by releasing the cap holds on some restricted free agents. So this doesn't kill our cap space. And we can move Carroll and that creates another 2.5 million.

5. This helps deal with the smurf issue the Hawks had on the wings last year - Sefolosha is 6'7 and Patterson is 6'5", so that adds some much needed height and length.

6. Hopefully we can still land another small forward - Ersan Ilyasova would be a good addition for the Hawks and the Bucks need to clear out minutes for Parker. And his contract isn't a cap killer.

1. The Hawks were paying Louis Williams 5.4 million this year. With the Salmons deal, the Hawks will pay him 1 million. And then Sefolosha is getting 4 million this year, so Sefolosha is a vast defensive improvement over Williams and hopefully at least decent on offense.

2. Shelvin Mack may leave (surprised no team has given him a contract yet - he's an improving point guard and a solid defender). If so, then Sefolosha is needed.

So considering our roster moves, this is a very solid contract.

He's still better on defense than Louis Williams. At a minimum he has 8 inches of height over Williams.

The Hawks might end up keeping John Salmons as well, depending on what other wings are out there and would be willing to sign with the Hawks.

That gives us Salmons and Sefolosha at 6'7" and James Patterson at 6'5", which gives the Hawks some size at the wings behind Carroll and Korver.
