View Full Version : how come no free agent wants to sign with the Heat all of a sudden?

The past 3 years, every free agent was willing to take a pay cut to join the Heat. Now all of a sudden, this year, they can't sign anyone even though they have the most cap space ($55 million).

Was there a league-wide memo sent by the Commissioner *not* to sign with the Heat or face consequences? :confusedshrug:

They can't even sign their OWN free agent like LeBron! :wtf:

Nobody wants to sign up until they know LeBron is coming back. Without LeBron you're just signing on to a shitty lottery team.

-Dwyane Wade is done
-LeBron peaked about 2 years ago and is on the decline from here on out, his defense for one has dropped significantly from his peak Cleveland days
-While I think Spoelstra is a decent coach he doesn't exactly seem like a coach players would WANT to play for
-If you are a role player you could end up being the team bitch on the floor like Mario Chalmers, which would suck
-You'd have to take a paycut

The list goes on and on

2 reasons.

Riley is a greasy scumbag and LeBron turns players into mediocre versions of themselves, further ruining their future value.

Miami is #1 destination for player who take the min vet or guys in Shane Battier situation who knew he had 3 years before retiring and wanting to go out in style. Miami will probably get those guys again but those guys go last during free agency.

The real reason is because they as in the free agents themselves and the Heat organization are clueless on what Lebron is going to do. The Heat can't guarantee any big sums to a big name player because it can range from $3-12 million depending on how much Lebron and the other two signs for.

The Heat are not a guaranteed championship. Thats why the idea of taking less money to join them is not attractive as it was back in 2010.

could it be that the Heat themselves are not interested in spending any of their cap room until the big 3 resign back with them. there's a lot still up in the air. sure bosh and wade opted out to save cap room THIS YEAR but I'm sure they would want a contract that would allow them to make up the money passed up in the long run. If the Heat have $55 M in cap space now then $21 M goes to Lebron. $34 M left. About $16 goes to Bosh. $$18 M left. About $14 M goes to Wade. $4 M left.

With the way players are getting paid this offseason with so many teams under the cap inflating the market rates, which available FAs can you sign for $4 M and the exceptions.

Heat will resign the big 3 first and then see how much they have to offer to the best of the unwanted FAs.

Nobody wants to sign up until they know LeBron is coming back.

This is the reason of course. Plus it hasn't even been 72 hours yet.

Heat are no longer what they used to be. James is probably past his prime, Wade is done, and Bosh has been reduced to a glorified role player. The rest of the pieces are a mess. Birdman, Chalmers, Haslem...all useless. Allen is still legit but he's gonna be another year older.

Joining the heat doesn't come without the pressures. Joining them meant title or bust. It still does...only the title part seems like more of a long shot considering they needed major luck to win last year and this year they got destroyed.

Joining the heat doesn't come without the pressures. .

What pressure? Whatever bad happens Lebron gets the blame for it.:oldlol:

You miss a game winner and it's LeBron's fault for passing it to you. He misses a game winner and it's his fault for missing it.:oldlol:

This

Nobody wants to be turned into a jump shooter. Finally, that bullshit myth about LeBron making his teammates better is getting exposed for the BS it always was. If that's true, how did he not make his teammates better in these past Finals?

The Heat aren't getting shit in this FA, Gortat and Lowry are already off the board and the longer it goes without them getting a decent signing, the more likely they'll just end up with old vets on their last legs.

I wasn't aware free agency was over yet? I wasn't aware free agents can even sign yet (they can't until July 10th)?

Actually they don't because they're not stupid, unlike yourself, and know what collusion means.

Spot on.

wrong. Wade is getting crucified for his Finals performance. People complaining about Bosh being a 3 point shooter now. And the PG was raked over in the media during the finals.

Now media and fans alike are asking who the Heat should bring in to help Lebron (implying his team mates let him down). Wade is a long term heat and Heat fans are worried about him asking for too much money that it might upset Lebron and cause him to leave. Bosh was a franchise player and is now a glorified role player. Lebron wont even commit to the team that he pretty much created.

Do other stars want this treatment?

Cuz they got smeared in the Finals and there is a lot of insecurity around them. Their players, their GM... they definitely aren't welcoming people into a happy free-ring world anymore.

Now, if the big three all sign, people will come along.

The hype around the Heat died down quite a lot from the Heatles days back in 2010-11. Guys already know there is no easy way to a ring and are looking to secure a good contract instead.

Also, recruiting is a long process, Lebron had recruited guys like Battier, Allen and Miller for years and there are not many more guys out there he has that type of relationship with where they are happy to give up money to play with him.
