Dirk Nowitzki agrees to new three-year deal with Dallas Mavericks http://es.pn/1mXRyxB
Marc Stein @ ESPNSteinLine
Dirk always likely to be first major free agent to decide. Sources say sides agreed today to three-year pact believed to be in $30M ballpark
No surprise that he stays but Cuban mentioned that they wouldnt sign Dirk once they figure out the $$ for Melo.. So I guess they know something we dont? Maybe they gave up?

what are the max raises a team can offer. what do you think his starting salary is going to be? how much room would that leave the mavs.

even if the mavs strike out on melo they can still sign deng/parsons and then fill up the rest of the roster with mo williams, jordan hill, and bring back soon to be stretch waived jason terry.

Dirk takes paycut...most likely still retires with just one fluke ring.
Kobe doesn't take paycut...retires with 5 guaranteed, still would bet he has a better shot at winning more rings before he retires than Dirk.

Even if you want to be a b*tch and eliminate those Kobe still has "3" rings to Dirk's 1, and 2 as the man... :confusedshrug:

They're either going straight for Deng, or might troll Houston a little w/ a Parsons offer sheet. Problem is, they will have to wait for Houston to match/not match and someone else might take FA off the board.
Gotta go for Gasol/Deng IMO.
Also, I love Dirk. Greatest Maverick of all time. One of the greatest athletes in Dallas sports history. Legend.

Did you watch game 1 in 2011 when Kobe and Pau were fouled on back to back posessions and no foul called. Then Marion clearly travels and no travel called. This all transpired within the final minute of the game.
Then again youre Lithuanian and you guys will always be Russias b1tch.

Sounds great.
Now we have to go out and get some of these guys.
Wish we had made a move for Bradley. Hearing now we might pay Thomas like 8 or 9 million a year.
I'd rather have Bradley than Thomas on this Mavs team, but Thomas at 9 million a year is actually good value.
Still would love to see that guard/wing defender position filled. That's why I thought Bradley would make so much sense. Thomas isn't a terrible idea though. He's better defensively than Calderon and far more potent offensively...and his ability to drop 3's from everywhere certainly would be nice.
But without a wing defender go go along with that....the defense just won't be good enough.
But damn...what an offense with Thomas, Ellis, and Dirk...

Calderon ellis was terrible, ellis thomas is suicidle
Why?
Thomas is better on both ends.
And as much as I loved our trade, Ellis/Calderon was not suicide. We took the Spurs to the brink and if we had Chandler in that series over Dalembert it could have been the difference.
We add Thomas and add a sf defender/shooter and we are clearly a better team going into this coming season.
I don't even like those moves, but it might be the best we can do. If we can't land Deng, Ariza, Stephenson, or Parsons....I'm not sure what else there really is to do. Add Augustin and Aminu and some scrub big?
We obviously need defense, but if we can't get it...maybe we say **** it and get Thomas and Hawes...try to bring back 1 or 2 of Carter/Harris/Marion/Blair...and just hope Carlisle can figure out some defensive scheme in the playoffs that works. Definitley a better roster than we had last year.

If the Mavs traded Brandon Wright, they would still have enough cap space to offer $10-12 million contracts each to Luol Deng and Pau Gasol.
Wright is an expirer at $5 million, which isn't a bad contract for a big.

I honestly don't think Pau makes a ton of sense for our team. I mean...I'd like it, but I'd honestly rather have Deng and then fill out the roster as best we can with a lot depth.
You do that with Gasol and it means no Harris, Carter, Wright, and Marion. Not the end of the world, but I'd rather our team be more like the Spurs at this point.
Our biggest need is obviously sf.
I don't love Harris/Felton/Mekel at pg, but it could work given what we add. If we add Deng or Ariza...great. We'll figure out the rest and our team is going to be very dangerous regardless. But if we don't add a defensive do it all sf. We are going to have to get really creative.

Pau going to dallas would mean a back up role and still not the best chance at another ring. OKC and Spurs are much better choices. then maybe Lakers out of Loyalty.

unless he falls into their laps at a drastically reduced price I don't think they will even call him.

I don't think his antics would play well in Dallas.
Neither Carlisle nor Cuban want to put up with bullshit like that from a player.
I agree with DMAVS. Upgrading our starting SF spot with either Chandler or Deng (or, if pushed, MAYBE Hayward, but not at the price that Cleveland is talking), re-sign Vince, Devin and Matrix and then maybe pick up one more big man (I would love Hawes, but think he would be too expensive to come off the bench and rotate out with Tyson).
Ideally, I would want the Mavs to scoop up Bledsoe and Deng. Wing scorer and a ruthlessly efficient defensive point guard who can get his when needed.
Hopefully we hear something over the weekend where exactly the rest of Cuban's cap space will be spent.

is showing the decline in his will to maneuover his body to grab those rebounds.
10 mil is a great deal for a decision making 10x better Bargnani.
with better rebounding potentials even at the age of 35

Dirk Nowitzki in 2013-2014 was still one of the 10 players with the most positive impact on their teams.
Andrea Bargnani in 2013-2014 was (still?) one of the 15 worst, with a significant negative impact.
Just because they're tall, foreign and can shoot doesn't mean the comparison was ever relevant. Even a 10x better Bargnani falls short of what Dirk brings to a team.

I think sometimes free agents really lack imagination. You got an owner willing to spend, you have a top 3 coach in the league, you have the combination Ellis+Nowitzki at a total of 18 million dollars and as of right now 45 million in capspace next summer to chase Rondo, Aldridge, Love, Marc Gasol, Hibbert and every center under the sun. But I guess perception is reality and somehow Morey has people convinced that Harden and Howard are Magic and Kareem. :lol
