If Houston strike out with the 'big name' free agents I could see them targeting Green as someone to interchange with Parsons at the 3/4. Would work well imo.

For the Celtics, they get out of Greens longer term deal and get Houstons first rounder in 2016, likely in the 24-30 range. Lin can play sixth man and let him walk next summer. Would be part of the Celtics slower rebuild plan after not getting Love and not winning this year's lottery.

Thoughts?

Already like the Celtics guard rotation but if they can move Lin to a 3rd team it might be worth it.

For the Celtics it's all about that first rounder and cap space next summer. Thinks it's worth a year of Lin on that deal. Good character guy can only help Smart and Young as well.

Actually this works better for all parties.

# Green to Houston
# Lin to Philly
# Houstons first round pick 2015 to Celtics
# Celtics send a second round pick to Philly

Not pulling this one out of my arse. Houston are strongly rumoured to have a deal lined up with Philly if they need to dump Lins contract.

Didn't they draft a point guard? They already have Rondo. Why would they need another point guard?

If Philly absorbs Lin's contract they're going to be getting a first round pick also so I doubt they'll be taking a second round pick instead.

I was thinking that but I'm not so sure. I think Philly would do it without a first rounder. Maybe two seconds from Boston would be required.

From what I heard today on Philly radio they said that Philly would get a first round pick in the deal if they took on Lin's contract. They also mentioned that Philly could possibly take on Nash's contract and cut him and they would also get a first round pick out of it.

The market has changed and expiring contracts are no longer valuable, cap space is. You will now be seeing teams getting picks for absorbing these contracts in order to clear cap space for the other team. I anticipate that Philly will be very active this year doing that in order to get picks in the first and second round in the future. I would not be surprised if Hinkie gets ahold of picks for 3-5 years down the road so that when the Sixers are good they will still have extra picks in future drafts.

Fair point.

Thinking out loud here... Celtics dump Gerrard Wallaces contract on Philly which is approx two years 10 million. They get the first from Houston and the seconds from Boston...

That gives Boston a nice amount of cap room stating this summer.

Not sure if Hinkie would be willing to take on a two year contract even at that number but it may be possible since Richardson is done after this year. He's maintaining a ton of cap flexibility and doesn't wanna surrender that.

I get the flexibility thing but even after taking on Lin and Wallaces deals this season they would still have around 15 million in cap space this summer and even more next...

Yeah it's possible since Richardson comes off next year.

Celtics say no. They don't need a low first round pick or cap relief for anything right now.

They are content with Jeff Green, at the moment.

Is Lin gonna play SF in Boston?

If Boston have a sizable Korean population then I say that the go ahead with this trade.

Surely his contract isn't that bad? Didn't he put up something like 15-16 ppg last year? Giving that up for a - what is guaranteed to be a very late - first-round pick seems kinda crazy.
