Patterson was playing really well the 2nd half of the season. He's worth $6m per year IMO.

they weren't going to. really, hennigan's organization is so tightlipped that any rumor you hear is pretty much bullshit.

It'd be a real shame, seemed like he really wanted to be back.

Good deal. 5 per would have been nice, but with Meeks getting paid what he did then I can understand this contract.

smooth jump shot, team guy, mature, getting better on d and will be a good energy guy for years to come.

I always forget he's only 25.

The thing is that Raptors just got two more front court players in Bruno and Bebe, which should make pre-signing Patterson being more expendable.

They've outbidded themselves. Seems to be a bit more of that going on this offseason

Don't want to derail the thread so I'll stop there

He's alright. Has a bit of room to grow so that justifies the contract. But unless his game takes a big leap, he's more suited to be the 1st PF off the bench.

Hard to say when we don't know all the closed door rumblings of other franchises.

Plus, a lot of teams have money, and a lot of teams are trying to get better. With lots of free agents on the market that can help your team, it should be expected that teams "over pay" trying to secure a players. Is it really overpaying if you're getting what you wan't?

Also the market dictates whether a player is overpaid or not. So what a similar player got this year doesn't mean anything to what that same type of player will get next year depending on the market.

Raptors has 51 mil before Lowry signing. With Lowry and Patterson's combined 18 mil per (avg), Raps' cap will be near last year's tax level, 71 mil. There is really very little room for Vasquez now unless MLSE is willing to pay to win.

They've outbidded themselves. Nice young player - he impressed me a whole lot during the Nets vs Raptors series, but they've overpayed him big time here.

Patterson was a steady presence off the bench all year but his value expands to his presence in the locker room as well as the fact that he's still only 25 years old. From listening to many of his interviews combined with the way he carries himself, it's clear that he's very mature for his age. 2Pat is quality player and a quality human being. No qualms at all about paying him out 6 per...

So Vasquez is as good as gone?

Hopefully not, him and Patterson were two of our best players according to some metrics, even though I like Vasquez better.

The Raptors had one the conference’s best benches as well. Greivis Vasquez and Patrick Patterson arrived in the Rudy Gay trade in December and made big impacts. Patterson spaced the floor at the power forward position, while Vasquez’s passing was infectious. Toronto recorded assists on just 49 percent of its baskets before the trade and 60 percent after it.

The numbers spell out how important Patterson and Vasquez are. They had the two best on-court NetRtg marks on the team, with the Raptors outscoring their opponents by 9.9 points per 100 possessions with Patterson on the floor and by 8.5 with Vasquez on the floor. In the playoffs, Toronto outscored Brooklyn by 53 points with Vasquez on the floor and was outscored by 64 with him on the bench. Patterson was a plus-30. As it was in the regular season, they were at their best with those two guys on the floor.

Right. He seems wise beyond his age for sure.

They can use the stretch provision on Fields to clear up about 5.2 million.

Great to have him back. Novak gets traded and we get a 2nd round pick next season. Now we make the run for Vasquez.

Is Toronto trying to troll America on this great day? First they make this FA signing, THEN they go and make a trade.

It's a holiday, guys!

He's one of my favourite Raptors though I was hoping for a $12-14/3 deal

I'm pretty sure Amir Johnson isn't fully guaranteed. The already move Novak to open more space and I'm sure they could move Fields and Hayes too if need be. No need to use the stretch.

what I said in the Raps forum

Objectively, the signing itself, I like PP but he hasn't produced like a 6M player, I guess this deal also factors in his potential. What I don't understand is PP is restricted so why not let the market determine his price? there's nothing to lose, best case scenario he signs elsewhere for less and we match it and save a mill or two. Worst case someone else overpay him and we can just let him walk and use that money on McRob, Diaw or Hawes, I don't even mind getting Ed Davis back.

Now considering out roster, among our starters that could use an upgrade, Amir is a better starter than TRoss, thus I'd rather spent that money on a Starting SF (PJ Tucker?) than a back-up PF.
