1) NY Knicks - 129 mill/5 years - 25.8 million per year
2) LA Lakers - 97 mill/4 years - 24.24 million per year
3) Dallas Mavs - 75 mill/4 years - 18.75 million per year
4) Houston Rockets - */4 years - * per year
5) Chicago Bulls - 70 mill/4 years - 17.5 million per year

Based on the money and team's championship chances, where should Melo go? Discuss.

It's crazy how the most competitive team can offer the least. It'll be a tough decision for Melo. But if he chooses the Bulls and leaves 8 mill on the table to go to the team he would help the most to a championship, he has my respect. Based on the money and team, where should Melo go? Discuss.
Houston is more competitive than Chicago.

If he wants to win, Chi Town baby, AINEC. He'll make extra money being in the jordan brand by playing in chicago. I'll cop a pair to hoop in if he comes.

He's gonna sign back with the Knicks because of his family and money of course. It'll ruin his legacy and retire ringless but he'll be richer.

East. Houston got knocked out of the first round like Chicago and the Rockets had a measly 6 more wins than Chicago even though they were without Rose pretty much all season.

This is simple.

Want money, stay in NY.

Want to win, get to Houston. No other team has a better collection of stars and role players than Houston. Dwight, Harden are 28 and 24 respectively.

It's easier to win in The East. Plus a lineup of Noah, Gibson, Melo, Butler and Rose easily trumps anything Houston can currently put forth.

Bulls could trade Dunleavy and a pick to a team with cap space and offer him 20 million. :confusedshrug:

It's all opinions at this point, but to be fair. Lineups don't even matter when you have McHale as coach. They could do the Bosh thing and have Howard, Bosh, Parsons, Harden and Beverly and it still doesn't matter, McHale is still there.

who cares if its east, west, north or south? The ultimate goal is to beat the best in the west/east

pauk is terrified of the thought of Carmelo Anthony signing with the Chicago Bulls. As you should be. That team would destroy Miami.

And how much cap space would each team have left if they were able to sign him? I'm pretty sure NY would have zero. He'd be going back to the same team + Odom

But to be a champion, you have to get past the LeBrons and the best of the West anyway. Also, that lineup would be assuming a healthy Rose right? Why wouldn't a XXX-Harden-Parsons-Melo-Howard, be better? And Houston winning 6 more games is more impressive considering they play more Western conference teams too.

Although the McHale-Thibs gulf is huge, Chicago definitely has the edge there.

melo has a better chance staying a float in the west come playoff time than ny or chicago.

dirk, melo, carter, and monta
kobe, melo, pau
harden, melo, dwight

all can compete with the spurs.

If he wants to win, he'll go to Chicago, Houston or the Mavs.

Obviously if he just wants the money and life style he'll stay in NY or go to LA.

Add McHale to that and they can't compete with the Spurs.

You want Melo to be playing out of position at the 4 on Houston? He's a 3. Tried being a 4 in New York, didn't work. The Rockets have too many defensive liabilities to surround Melo who isn't a good defender himself. Chicago surrounds him with great defenders at all positions.

Melo puts Chicago over the top, above Indiana and right there with Miami. In the West, he has to compete with 7-8 other good teams just to make the playoffs.

Houston is the logical choice, if you want the greatest chance at winning a championship.

NY is the logical choice if you want to make the most money on the court.

I would guess NY or LA for making the most money off the court, but a championship might trump that.

I'm going to disagree with you on this. For two reasons. One, McHale is coaching that team. It doens't matter if they get Melo or not, they're not going with him as coach. Two, Harden and him will not co-exist.

If he could team up with LeBron, then obviously that would trump all.

I never said it was. But it's a lot more money than the other options, for only a slightly worse chance at a ring. No spot is guaranteed, except teaming up with LeBron.

Would you give up $40 million if the only difference is getting to the 2nd round instead of 1st? None of those teams are guaranteed past the second round.

And would you really bet your next 4 years on Rose's knees, especially after you seen what happened to Amare?

Lebron is guaranteed not to go to the West. Melo, I think has more courage to do so, but will likely take the Knicks offer since it is way too much money to leave on the table over the Bulls. However, I would not be surprised if he went to the Lakers, who can provide him just 1 mill less per season but a way better team. Still prefer to see him in Chicago though. The fit is perfect.
