I don't understand how anyone likes music in general. Hearing is obviously the least important sense. Why waste time *********ing your ears? It's like those idiots who buy and wear toe rings for their style.

That's because white folks appreciate art in their music. Rock is breaking sound barriers and story telling while rap and pop stick with the same generic bullsh*t.

Nah. If anything rap is storytelling.

You cant give that an honest listen and say you could tell that story so well in a rock song.

And I have nothing against rock. Or anything really other than current "pop" and current country.

At any given moment I could be playing Cream, Killer Mike, Albert King, Bob Seger, Vivaldi, the Eagles, Ghostface, Bobby Caldwell, or Billy Paul.

Im just saying...rap is built for storytelling.

Even good stories told in other genres don't have the depth. I Hung My Head is a good song. But it cant compare to the depth of storytelling in say.....I Gave You Power. Or Loves Gonna Getcha. They just don't have the time/tempo.

Anyway....

Ive often been bugged by the idea that rock is for white people. The best rock bands for a long long time were direct ripoffs of black southern blues musicians....and not like that's my opinion.

They would tell you themselves.

Its all just music. Black people just didn't get into what the blues became for a while.

But the Rolling Stones are named after a damn Muddy Waters song.

Rap is pretty deep if you listen carefully, but I have no time to sit there listening to the meaning and story of each song. Give me a nice beat, good rhymes and I'm good.

I've been thinking for a while now that rap needs to combine forces with rock, particularly those guitar solos. People keep telling me it exists already, but all the examples I get kinda suck.

its like blues only taking out most of the sadness and covering it up with sick guitar solos:bowdown:

black people like blues, rock is just blues for white folks who dont want to sing about sad shit all the time.

music is an art form. Art forms are almost entirely subjective.

Art has very little objective criteria. If you enjoy an art form its good to you. If you dont enjoy an art from its bad to you.

Its not like the 100 m dash. If you run 100 m in less time you are better than your competition. Music/art has nothing close to that objectivity.

Rock & Rap go well together

example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sQ3K5GjsSs

You could also just look at some of the mashups out there to see how well the two blend, this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bMM7tGV9MI), or this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka3GznTXur8) both being good examples. Or check out the entire album...it's awesome =P

Story telling in rap is lame anyway. Lyrically makes it a lot more simplistic and boring to listen to. Would rather listen to straight bars.
