He made alot of good PR decisions, basketball-wise, not so much. Overall he's a B to me.

Having to deal with the Sterling situation three months in most have been very difficult. He did a pretty good job with it.

Yup.

Let's keep it in perspective, fellas. Silver does seem more likable, but he's got a long way to go till he surpasses the Stern.

Overall, an A for this year.

The NBA had a plan to put advertising on jerseys in the past few seasons. But it fell through.

Still, it's coming. And maybe soon.

"I think it's inevitable," commissioner Adam Silver said at a recent conference, via AdAge.com.

"It just creates that much more of an opportunity for our marketing partners to get that much closer to our fans and to our players. It gives us an opportunity just to have deeper integration when it comes to those forms of sponsorship," Silver said. "Increasingly as we see Champion's League and English Premier League televised in the US, I think it's going to become more acceptable and more commonplace for our fans as well."

Eh, I didn't mind him. But he lost me after that^.

Bull shit justification and at least Stern tried to to fight it. 0/5

It was a joke man :(

Anyway I think he did a decent job this year, especially with all the controversy. But there's still some actual game related stuff that needs to be adressed, so Ill give him a B

Solid B+.

Get reach A+ status ...

-Seattle needs a team.

He hasn't made enough basketball decisions yet.

He's carried himself well, though. The NBA needs to put an end to sleeved jerseys.

I give him an incomplete for now.

If he puts ads on jerseys, he needs to go. Right now though, a 2/5.

Didn't he took over in February? It was just half a season.

I say B- at best, which is a good start.

He certainly hasn't done much wrong, he's got a solid B+ from me, good rookie season.
He lied about not knowing Sterling's past racial issues during the press conference. If the casual ISHers knew about it, then the former second-in-commend must have known it too.

I can't wait until Silver's rating drops because he allows advertisements on jerseys. :oldlol:

In retrospect it was the easiest thing in the world.

Sterling is an easily hated character. He isnt even a charismatic racist.

All he needed to do was ban sterling for life and silver would be instantly made into a hero/media darling and endear himself to the players.

Stuff like this gives leaders a rallying point and increases their popularity
Eg. Bush achieved his highest approval ratings after 9/11. Im sure a similar thing happened to Roosevelt after pearl harbor

Did Mark Cuban uphold the image of the NBA when he inferred publicly that refs rigged the 06 finals?

does anyone in this thread actually have any idea what adam silver has been up to for the past six months?

so far the only things that have been mentioned are sterling and advertising on jerseys. the former's been beaten to death and the latter isn't exactly coming out of nowhere. if the nba needs more revenue, better to have ads on the jerseys than breaking up the games with increased advertisements during telecasts. not like it's a risky move... fans might hold their noses but its not losing the nba any viewers. that's why silver sees it as inevitable.

but surely the commissioner has much more on his plate than just these two issues? on what criteria are you people basing these grades? or are you just pulling them out of your ass?

"well i thought he sounded really confident at the press conference!"
"no he was trying too hard"
"did you see him scratch his nose, dude doesnt have a clue"

i wouldn't prefer it. it'd be a shame. but it wouldn't make me stop watching. and as long as the league is run exclusively by team owners, it's not just unexpected, it's virtually inevitable.

Is the league hurting for money or something? Why does it need more revenue?

I doubt it would be that bad but yeah he's pretty much an A- for what he's done so far but once he implements advertisements on jersey it's gonna be cringeworthy. The taco bell shit on nba.com is annoying already when checking scores.

depends who you ask. most owners are probably in it for the thrill more than the money. given the scale of operating a pro sports franchise i don't think it's super profitable or anything. but these guys are billionaires always looking to make their next buck. and since the commissioner is appointed by the owners basically to serve their interests, it stands to reason that if he believes ads on jerseys are inevitable, it's probably because he thinks it's a profitable move. meaning it's not going to drive anybody away. in other words, why not?

- got rid of Donald Sterling once and for all (Stern was too scared)
- Great PR with Isaiah Austin
- Had a very good playoffs

that's the point. this isn't the straw that broke the camels back. the game sold its soul years ago. there have been many changes worse than putting ads on jerseys. there will also be plenty of em in the future.

Don't think they're hurting financially but the NBA is still behind boring old ass MLB in revenue. Gotta keep being greedy and generate as much money and revenue as possible, who knows what the future holds you know.

Leela: "Didn't you have ads in the 20th century?"

Fry: "Well sure, but not in our dreams! Only on tv and radio...and in magazines...and movies. And at ball games, on buses, and milk cartons, and t-shirts, and bananas, and written on the sky. But not in dreams! No sirree."
