payton also looked completely terrible. even worse than gordon. his handles for a pg were very loose and very sloppy. he could not handle a double team from a pick and roll. every time a high pick and roll was set, it was easy to trap him up top and force a turnover. guy was awful lol. hennigan made some bad picks.

Yea i think today's game was a solid indicator of how these guys will perform this season. Total busts

I think one summer league game is totally enough to judge an 18 year olds entire career :facepalm
Payton and Gordon both need time to develop but their rookies on a team that isn't looking to content yet.

Summer league.
This. It doesn't matter. One bit.
Marc Stein tweeted how he remembered Greg Ostertag dominating Tim Duncan in TD's first summer league.
Gordon is a gay Shawn Marion at best.

hylian. look up how smart did. how napier did. almost every rookie was awful. payton looked so nervous he was gonna throw up. he's very timid. he just needs to get used to it. gordon will get better too.
it's a ****ing summer league game

napier was 3-15 and had 8 turnovers

Dude it seriously doesn't matter.
SL's only value is to get players on the court with other NBA/D-League players. Good performances hold minimal value. Just go out there and don't be an idiot or get injured.

My dude i was being sarcastic. op is a fool for taking anything away from a summer league game. Much less the first of their careers

You should have been here for Lebrons summer league games.
People literally predicted he would be out of the NBa within 3 seasons. A dude named KingofVA. Melo fan I remember hating on Lebron around that time.

To be honest I don't expect Gordon to do much more than show some highlight dunks and some flashes of good defence this season. He is the youngest kid in this draft class isn't he? It's going to be a couple of seasons at least before Gordon or Payton develop into quality NBA players.

Its summer league dog.
Nic Batum played horrible during Blazers summer league as a rook, was possibly going to be sent back over to France, and now look at him.
Also Qyntel Woods was summer leage MVP for the Blazers, your like "who" -yeah thats my point
Aaron Gordon should develop into a solid pro, but SL is not a good indicator of future NBA success

Aaron can improve. He could turn heads when the season starts. Just look at Tim Duncan. If people didn't know, Duncan sucked so bad in the entire summer league. Look how he turned out.

Sucked so bad?
Tim Duncan's Summer League 1997:
Duncan 16 pts/8 of 13 FG/10 rbs/3 ast/5 blocks/31 minutes vs dallas
Duncan 13 points/4 of 9 FG/6 rebs/5 ast/1 block/29 minutes vs seattle
Duncan 12 points/5 of 9 FG/7 rebs/3 asts/5 blocks/26 minutes vs portland
Duncan 14 points/6 of 10 FG/8 rebs/3 assists/2 blocks vs Utah
I hardly consider that horrible. Good shooting %, blocks all over the place, decent board rate, and solid assists for a pf. Aaron gordon wont sniff how Tim Duncan ended up, i think hell be a good defender. Like a REAL-Lite marion.

MCW and Trey Burke were awful in Summer League last year. And they both had very good rookie seasons.
It doesn't mean anything. Although I will say that Gordon looked a bit lost out there and was seriously careless with the ball.

I like this subtle hypothesis. You don't ever wanna put too much stock in these summer league games. Especially when these rooks are lacing them up alongside vets and youngens who are fighting tooth and nail to get noticed. You'll often see a bunch of unknowns hoisting up shots to get theirs.

Summer League MVP's
Randy Foye (2006)
Nate Robinson (2007)
Jerryd Bayless (2008)
Blake Griffin (2009)
John Wall (2010)
N/A (2011) - NBA Lockout cancelled summer league
Damian Lillard/Josh Selby (2012)
Jonas Valančiūnas (2013)
For some reason, I could have sworn Rodney Stuckey was MVP one season too.

Agreed. He looked really shaky today, and he is just so weak with the ball. Seems like a good kid tho so I'll root for him

Actually pretty good list. Almost all of those players are at least solid in the NBA.

Yup. It's an okay moderator, just get the rookies/sophomores prepared for the season.
Josh Sellby's the only one who wasn't consistent and is out of the league.

I remember I was on a vacation NYC when Rose played his first summer league game.
I watched it and thought man, he didn't look that good. But he also had those FLASHES other posters talk about.
Dudes are nervous and eventually calm down and start playing their games.

Derrick Rose, too, if I remember correctly, was pretty horrible in his first summer league game, while Mario Chalmers was an instant performer.
