The Dallas Mavericks made their bid for New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony. Dallas was one of several stops on the free agency tour from Carmelo.

Originally Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said the meeting was

I expected him to sign with the Knicks all along. The combination of money and fame is too much to pass up, and with Phil Jackson there he can at least pretend they are a contender.

New York's center position is more concerning. Their best defensive big man is Kenyon Martin if he does come back.

We have 3 bigs with potential on the Summer League roster. They'll shake one out. I think Phil has plans for Aldrich especially.

There is also "multiple sources" stating he plans to sign with the Lakers.

Other sources say he is leaning towards Chicago.

The only source that matters is Melo

Carmelo = This generation's Charles Barkley.

0 rings at the end of his career. NYK won't win jack for at LEAST the next 2 years. By then Melo is already 32 years old and on the decline. He's going to end up with bad knees and no rings.

Chase that money Carmelo

Disagree. He'll bring a free agent or 2 in in 2015, and they'll make a run. Will bump.

That gives him too much credit. Barkley was a MVP and a top 5 player for many years. Has Carmelo ever been top 5? Carmelo is this generation's Dominique Wilkins if he remains in New York: a top 10 player for many years who excels at scoring the ball but does little else well and has no playoff success. Look at all the threads about the 80's and 90's. Dominique is rarely even mentioned...that is Carmelo 10-15 years from now since he chose money over winning. If the Knicks win 3 series in the next 3 years that will be a qualified success...

He'll bring a free agent or 2 in in 2015, and they'll make a run.

Possibly--but there are always more championship contenders than champions so that run likely would come up short...

and The way his Playing style is , he'll play 4 a while , prolly longer than Lebron/wade

Yes, but how many elite years does he have left? How many elite SF's are there at 33 or 34? He probably has 2-3 borderline superstar years left and another 2-3 all-star caliber years after that. As the Knicks presumably improve, Carmelo will decline due to age. It is rare for teams to successfully re-build around a 30 year player for a reason...

Better than going 2/4 on one of the more stacked teams in nba history.

Carmelo: 11 years, 0 rings, 0 Finals, 1 WCF, 2 second round appearances

LeBron: 11 years, 2 rings, 5 Finals, 6 ECF's, 9 ECSF's

Carmelo played with Allen Iverson (top 30 all-time), Billups, Camby, K Mart so it is not as if he was playing with scrubs and he had George Karl as coach.

I think everybody expects Melo to go back to NY... The money and chance to play the game with Phil Jackson in the building should be all he needs for a reason...

It's not like any other teams offers him a guaranteed run at a title, if he was after a ring he'd have found a way to get an audience with the Spurs

Carmelo: 11 years, 0 rings, 0 Finals, 1 WCF, 2 second round appearances missed playoffs once

LeBron: 11 years, 2 rings, 5 Finals, 6 ECF's, 9 ECSF's (1 finals, 1 ecf before heat) Missed playoffs twice played against much weaker comp

Carmelo played with Allen Iverson (top 30 all-time), Billups, Camby, K Mart so it is not as if he was playing with scrubs and he had George Karl as coach.

Iverson, slightly past his prime and a rather weak roster aside from that.

Billups slightly past prime and made wcf with him, not really considered a contending team as most thought 2009 Nuggets would miss the playoffs.

Dude it's Melo. He's not the kind of player the Spurs would go after. Spurs would probably just hang up if he called.

Barkley didn't get his mvp until 30, the same age that Melo will be getting his mvp as well as getting to the finals but losing in the finals just like Barkley. This scenario would put them on equal grounds.
