Seeing how popular the WNBA is on insidehoops I thought this post would be in high demand and capture the interest of the entire board as you witness the peachy keen skills of girls basketball in 1948

I can't watch 2014 Women's basketball when I know that most power high school basketball programs would beat the #1 WNBA team by 50 points.

There are some people who appreciate the history of the game and its development. It's rare to see this much footage of any sex's basketball from that era. Even though it's not professional, and not exactly exciting in the sense you'd use it some might enjoy the post.

Also, I've always been big on looking at ANY type of old film or pictures.

You will never see a fight like this in the modern era--

-- form Wikipedia--

He began 1919 winning five bouts in a row by knockout in the first round. Then on July 4, he and world heavyweight champion Jess Willard met at Toledo, Ohio, for the world title. Few gave Dempsey a chance against the larger champion and many called this fight a modern David and Goliath. Minutes before the fight started, Kearns informed Dempsey that he had wagered Dempsey's share of the purse on Dempsey winning with a first-round knockout. As a result, the first round of the fight was one of the most brutal in boxing history. Dempsey dealt Willard a terrible beating and knocked him down seven times in the first round. Willard had a broken cheekbone, broken jaw, several teeth knocked out, partial hearing loss in one ear, and broken ribs.

That was cringe worthy, especially seeing those girls play with dresses.

After a few minutes I did start noticing that they were playing really well, for that style. So that was interesting, cringe worthy because the style is so horrible, but at the same time being able to see that they were well practiced and for themselves they were doing really good.

It was a little bit like a different sport. Like basketball, but with a special rule where you can only dribble the ball once.

Those girls must now be mid 80s to 90 years old. I wonder what they would think if they saw themselves in this video, being now trapped in a really old body.

You have no idea how confusing the 69-70 season was for people when it went from complete BS to something exciting in a matter of months.

Something about watching old videos and realizing that fact is super creepy and makes me appreciate every day I've got. Especially in my youth. I'll be honest, I like all the passing :lol

The ball was different then too so I wonder how it'd bounce if they tried to dribble like todays players if taught

It's interesting because there is some skills within that style of play that they play. I did prefer the girl's video more, even with the less athleticism, because the slower paced felt more as if they had to use their mind more in trying to get a shot off.

I'm not gonna lie. This does look like a different level compared to now. I could see a couple of time-traveling ISHers being 10th-11th players on some of those teams.

my 10 year old nephew would style on these broads tbh. It's that sad. You can't even call that basketball, just a variation of handball with a basket.

Note: Most of the action was filmed at semi-slow motion so the plays would be easier to follow...

So we now need ultra-slow motion?

why are the girls waiting behind them and not taking part in the game?I admit I'm not entirely too familiar with old school girls basketball rules. But at one point, I believe there used to be a long-standing girls basketball rule in some areas that dictated there would be three "frontcourt" players (or forward) and two defenders (that'd have to stay back). I'm actually kind of interested in figuring out the legit rules now.

Funny how when things like dribbling rules remain strict, the game essentially looks identical.

I'd love to see a pickup game of today's players wearing chuck Taylor's, under 60s rules / plays.

I can't imagine what the NBA would be like if the max number of dribbles a player could take were limited to two. Full court press would be highly prevalent.
