View Full Version : Worse beatdown, Germany vs Brazil or San Antonio vs Miami?

TheMan

Brazil just got their asses handed to them 7-1 by Germany in the semi final at home. Nobody would've have predicted this result but they were missing their best overall player (Neymar) and their team captain, Thiago Silva. The WC is a one and done game, no chance for a do over. This was the worst Brazilian loss in their history. The WC is the most watched team sport tournament in the world...

Vs

Miami got smoked by a historical NBA Finals loss margin. The Heat were constructed (collusion would be the better word) to win chip after chip. The Heat got beat by a team with not one player being in the top 10-15 players in the league. The Heat have the best player in the world. The Heat were a few missed Spurs FTs in game 2 from being swept. The Heat were thouroughly beaten four times.

Both teams played HORRIBLE defense, so who you got for more embarrassing showing?

Germany/Brazil and its not even close

Yeah they were missing their best player, but allowing 7 goals, even it is against a powerhouse like Germany, is f*cking embarrassing.. :oldlol:

Germany vs Brazil and "worlds of difference" is doing a disservice of explaining how large the gap is.

The WC is the most watched team sport tournament in the world.
Yet they still decide tie games with a PK shootout.

Could you imagine if an NBA finals game was still tied after 1 OT and they went to a FT shooting contest to decide the winner?

Take this under consideration. Soccer is a one and done deal, clearly Brazil stopped trying after they were down 2-0. Shit just escalated from there. WE KNOW GERMANY ISN'T 7-1 BETTER THAN BRAZIL. If they play again in a week, Brazil could make adjustments and be in that hypothetical contest.

A series usually determines the best team since you can't luck your way to 4 wins. The Spurs thumped Miami 4 outta 5 games :confusedshrug:

Brazil completely gave up after 2-0. Germany was wide open 90% of the time. The Heat were actually trying at the beginning of every game and still got their asses handed to them.

So, I'd say Heat, but at least they tried unlike Brazil.

Super Bowl was over after first play from scrimmage. It was a total beat down.

And Germany scored at 11'. Then 4 more times in the HALF.

The SB was like one kid beating another with those giant inflatable boxing gloves. This WC match was like 10 guys with baseball bats destroying people. This was a historical loss. SB wasn't. It wasn't even the Bronco's worst SB loss.

The Spurs' margin of victory in the entire playoffs was like 15 points. They had trouble with the Mavs but blew them out in Game 7. Dismantled an up and coming Blazers team. Blown out the Thunder 3 times. And then crushed the Heat as well.

The Spurs were that good this season.

Brazil were missing two of their top players and it was one match. Miami was embarrassed game after game and had no response.

Also, I dont follow footie, so I dont care about the world cup at all.

Spurs dominated Miami in 4 out of 5 games. And the one game Miami won, happened partially because the Spurs missed free throws.

Germany over Brazil was just one game, even if it was an epic beat down.

:facepalm

According to that logic the Spurs winning is a bigger beatdown than any football or soccer match ever. And Baseball, basketball, and hockey beatdowns will always surpass that of soccer, football, etc.

Awful, horrible logic. I guess Miami over OKC in 2012 was a bigger beatdown than 49ers over Broncos 55-10, because that was "just one game"

ThePhantomCreep

This isn't even close--7 goals is the third most scored in a World Cup game. Even the shittiest soccer nations rarely lose by more than 3 goals, especially in this tournament.

20 point beatdowns are far more common in the NBA.

BuffaloBill
07-08-2014, 06:56 PM
Heat loss was worse because they had their best players, and it was in the finals. Also because Germany vs Brazil was just one game. The Miami Heat got beatdown after beatdown, they got pummeled into the ground in pretty much every game.

To even compare those situations is hilarious. You could somehow compare the situations if San Antonio would beat Miami by 100+ points in every game. Some of you cant imagine how embarrassing this loss is to Brazilians. There will be suicides because of this game...

Frankly it's not. 7-1 loss in their own country by the Germans in a World Cup semifinal (the biggest sporting event of the world). Such a loss hasn't occured again in elite level. Americans don't follow the sport and can't understand the frenzy around it (especially in countries like Brazil where it is a religion...) but it is the BIGGEST loss of team i can think of

It's really not. Go back to 1950 when Brazil also hosted the World Cup and they lost 2-1 to Uruguay in the final. The Brazilians were so pissed it became officialy known as Maracanazo, which translates to The Maracana Blow (Maracana is the stadium it was played in). 50 years on, and some of brazil have never forgotten it. In fact, some of the players were interviewed recently and they said it still haunts them.

Go to 2014, with the whole world watching in anticipation, Brazil literally declaring national holidays whenever they play and crying their hearts out in every pregame anthem... and they just got demolished 7-1 in their home by Germany. Sorry, even if the Spurs beatdown the Heat by 50 points every game, it will never come close to the humiliation suffered by Brazil today. This is the global scale, and no sport means more to any country than soccer does to Brazil. It's apples and oranges.

Put it to you this way. The US were dominated in their match with Germany, and they lost 1-0. This is 7-1!

Even the 55-10 thrashing the Niners gave the Broncos in SB XXIV doesn't compare.

The margin of victory and gravity of the game is bigger here. Going in, it was known that Germany were the superior team and with Brazil losing their two most important players for the game I was expecting a beat down by Germany and only a puncher's chance for Brazil

Broncos/Seahawks was supposed to be close and competitive and had all this hype. Instead it was a huge disappointment of a game. Spurs/Heat also falls in this category where a hyped matchup became a beatdown. That's the difference between these and the Brazil/Ger game.

Not sure what your point is, Heat could have won by 50 points each game and it still wouldn't come close. No event in the NBA could really touch this - soccer is both a more global sport and the most important to Brazil (while basketball isn't the most popular sport in the US to begin with)

Basically, remember those Clippers/Lakers games late in the season, kind of similar to that.

If anyone wants a clear American sports comparison to what transpired today, look up the 1940 NFL Championship.

Lol, Brazil ... biggest humiliation in the history of the game.

Luiz Felipe Scolari described Brazil's humiliation against Germany as "the worst day of my life" and pleaded publicly with the fans of the World Cup's host nation to "please excuse us".

With a third-place play-off still to contemplate on Saturday, Scolari refused to say whether he would continue as manager beyond this tournament but said that it had been the "most catastrophic" defeat in Brazil's history.

"Who is responsible when the team plays?" Scolari said. "I am. It's me. Who decided the tactics, I did. So the person responsible is me. If I were to think of my life as a player, as a coach, as a teacher, this was the worst day of my life. I'll be remembered probably because I lost 7-1, the worst defeat Brazil have ever had."

Imagine the final score of Seahawks/Broncos...at halftime. That's basically what Germany's 5-0 lead represents.

7-1 would be like the home team losing a game 7 by 50 points.

That has little to nothing to do with which one is a bigger beatdown. :biggums:

Are you talking purely in terms of significance or which team got humiliated more? The answer could be the same for both but they could easily differ depending on who you ask. I mean, is losing 7-0 once worse than getting blown out numerous times in a series?
