assuming he will make it to the finals

based on ISH logic, might be better if he didn;t make it back to the Finals

If he takes the Cavs to the Finals next year, he's a lock for top 2 of all-time with a good case for GOAT.

Just as many Finals MVP's as LeBron though

The fact that op auto-assumes that LeBron will take literally any east team to the finals shows how much respect op has for LeBron. Is there another player in the league that would draw that kind of respect? Melo obviously couldn't come close.

just sayin.

Lebron's 2014 Finals proved that stats like PER can't be looked at in a vacuum.

Here is the list of top all-time Finals PER's through 2012.. Top All-Time Finals PER's (http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2012/story/_/page/FinalsPerformances-1/greatest-finals-performances-no-1)

According to FanSided (http://fansided.com/2014/06/14/stat-day-lebron-james-leads-nba-finals-per/#!baI5Kk), Lebron's 2014 Finals PER was at 31.8 through 4 games (although it likely went down a few points after Game 5).

The list of top Finals PER's is interesting because Lebron's raw production and shot attempts per game are by far the lowest of anyone on the list - Instead, Lebron is the only one whose PER was based on shooting efficiency rather than production... and he's the only one on the list to lose his Finals.

So Lebron propped up his PER with shooting efficiency at the cost of allowing his raw production and shot attempts to be the lowest on the list - i.e. 4.0 assists.. 18.2 shots attempts... 3.8 TO's... by comparison, Magic Johnson averaged 13.0 assists and 23.3 shots per game in the 1987 Finals (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2011/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=FinalsPerformances-6), and won.. Magic's production-driven PER was able to win just like everyone else on the list, except Lebron, who chose to counter his opponent's production with shooting efficiency instead.

Lebron basically conned his way to a high PER in 2014 with his shooting efficiency strategy... But it ended up hurting him, because Lebron's shooting-efficiency-driven PER compared to the production-driven PER's of every other top Finals performer proved that an opponent's production is optimally combated with one's own production, not shooting efficiency.

Summary: Statpadding 101: LeBroning it

:applause:

Next course: Regular season 101: More MVP's then rings: The regular season warrior.
