View Full Version : So Cavs are doing Wiggins for Love?

Once Lebron signs?
Does anyone think this is a good decision? I mean Love will stretch the floor with his 3 shot, also has good rebounding, Kyrie will play the point and then you have Lebron james and 3pt specialists off the bench (allen, james jones)?

After the Wiggins rumors came out Dan Gilbert posted that he couldn't wait to see Wiggins in a Cavs jersey in summer leage which starts on Friday. Also Wiggins Camp is saying they don't think he's part of any trade talks.

Isn't Wiggins supposed to be a good defensive player? Also, Cav's won't have enough cap space to get both LeBron and Love.

If Love is going to be any part of a Irving/James/Love trio...Wiggins will be coming to Minnesota.
Unless Flip Saunders is hammered and I need to change my handle.

that would be an awful trade
wiggins and bron much more exciting to watch

They'll do something to get another star player in there...would be stupid not to given their assets.
Doesn't have to be wiggins though. They have so many different things they can do.
They have loads of young players like Wiggins, Bennett, Waiters, and Thompson...3 first round draft picks (potentially) this year, Andy's expiring 10 million dollar contract, and that weird Haywood contract that becomes a 10 million dollar expirer after his season iirc.
there are so many packages you can create with that in my opinion.

Love is a great player but I don't see what value he brings over the potential of Wiggins...if they sign LeBron.
It was clear Bosh took a step back in a LeBron offense and guys who hang around the rim are more complementary than stretch 5's within that same system.
Wiggins has the potential to be everything Wade was early on and couldn't be the last two seasons.
I would be looking to emulate that more than trying to ask a guy like Love to defer.

Love won't stay in CLE. he is going to get courted hard in FA again. likelihood they win a ring even if they stack is still unlikely...even the Heat took a year to learn to play together.
if they were big market it might make more sense. what a waste of giving away Wiggins if it happens :facepalm
Wiggins is a future all star.

If Cleveland trades for Love, Love has to give a verbal agreement that he'll do an extension before the trigger. It's very likely that on draft day if Love agreed to do an extension we would've already traded our #1 pick to Minnesota for him. That's why they couldn't get him earlier is because he won't agree to an extension. Reports are that if James as agreed to sign with the Cavs and the Cavaliers re-pitched to Love, Love would agree to an extension with the Cavs.

oh i didn't know it was contingent on a verbal agreement of extension. okay nm then. i was thinking why take that incredibly huge risk...

i doubt Gilbert wants that to happen unless it literally is the only way to land lebron.

I think they'd do it if LeBron signed there and expressed that he wanted Love, or told them that was the only way he was signing.
Both guys would do well alongside LeBron though.

Cavaliers are pursuing a Kevin Love trade with Minnesota, contingent on the signing of LeBron James, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

I would be worried Love would become Bosh, a spot up shooter.

His rebounding and passing would help a lot. He's also a better 3 point shooter than Bosh.
Bosh can shoot 3's....Love is a 3 point shooter. Bit of a difference.
It would be all about the Cavs finding a way to get a center. You can't play Love at center like Bosh could.
So it's dependent on having a guy defending the paint. Which is why if the Cavs have to give up Wiggins...they should take Dieng back as well.

If they don't give up Wiggy in the trade, they can turn around and flip Wiggins for a couple of assets. One of them being a rim protector. How about sending Wiggins to Detroit for Drummond? Pretty epic trade idea that would even out both teams.
Drummond, Love*, James, Waiters, Irving
*Assuming they can get Love for a package of draft picks, Bennett, Varejao and Thompson

Yea, the Cavs, with their assets...could get really creative.
They don't have to go after Love. They already have Thompson who I like a lot. If they are going to give up Wiggins...perhaps a guy like Drummond is better to build a trade around.
I like the idea of getting both.
Often times I feel like fans forget that these guys all have to get paid at some point. So yea, it's nice to have Waiters and Thompson, but they are coming up soon. And looking around at what other players are getting right now...Not sure the Cavs would really want to pay those guys on a contending team. This is why building around stars is so valuable. The value, even at near max deals, often exceeds solid players on reasonable contracts.

should do wiggins + waiters for Drummond+Monroe.
I doubt they do it tho because SVG is very high on drummond

I believe him yo...I dont know why but I do.
If you're Minnesota you do it in a heartbeat.
Semi-tank another year, take a pick or two, and now you have Wiggins for 9 years.
I would be worried Love would become Bosh, a spot up shooter.
And what is Love right now? A post player? :facepalm

Yeah he's scoring 26ppg off of jumpers only, it's really impressive. You should watch him play some time

Not like he's uncomfortable in that role...dude took 7 threes a game last year and made 38%.
He's a legit shooter. That is his big difference than Bosh. Bosh is a big that can shoot. Love is just a great 3 point shooter.

Yes, he basically is. His offensive scoring skill set is completly predicated on jump shooting. Below average post game, below average face up drives. It's why the wolves struggle in fourth quarters. He isnt reliable for a basket. Have you seen him play?

Dude is a jumpshooter. At least with Bosh you could claim he faced up more. :oldlol:
I'd do it in a heartbeat. Wiggins could be a flop like Bennett whereas Love is already a proven top 8 player in the league/world plus possible future HoF.

He was pretty bad as a 19 yr old with a major shoulder injury. OF COURSE HE IS A FLOP

Love > Bosh and Irving > Wade in terms of playing with bron. They just compliment him much better IMO. However, that defense is pretty atrocious. They would definitely need to be going after defensive specialists rather than old shooters that bron liked (though miller is a great player). There's a reason the heat did better when they had battier.

If it gets you LeBron, I'd do it. As in, LeBron says you make that deal I'm definitely coming. Otherwise I'd pass. Wiggins makes much less money the next 4 years and has a much higher ceiling.

A trade the Cavs would deeply regret a few years down the road.
