View Full Version : People talk about Wiggins like he is...

...Zach Levine or something, not the kid with the off the charts potential and the guy who came second in voting for player of the year in the best conference in the country as a freshman (should have won it).
This kid is coming into the league with a ton of NBA ready skills and will be able to contribute right off the bat, yet ISH acts like he is some kind of project that is years away from contributing.
'but, but, but he can't create off the dribble at an elite level!!!'
Jeebus Heist!
He can defend at an elite level, rebound from his position at an elite level, run the fast break at an elite level, he has an above average jumpshot, the best second jump in the league, is team first, coachable and well grounded. He DID and CAN take over games, and it isn't even critical to his contributions.
Why so much doubt? Most scrutinized player ever.

The only thing is I feel that Wiggins needs to learn to utilize his insane athleticism more on the offensive end- I feel like sometimes he relies too much on his jumpshot

It will come, his skill set needs to catch up with the speed he actually moves at. Its a good problem to have.
Also, people are ignorant to the fact that the NBA game is so much more wide open than in college, and Wiggins skill set is more geared towards the pro game.

Bran will be Wiggins' Pippen.

He is gonna be really good. I thought he was a no-brainier number 1 pick after Embiid got hurt. Even before that it was close IMO and I'm one of the biggest Embiid fans on the board.
I think people just follow popular opinions. Wiggins is almost definitely gonna be a terrifying player.

While I mostly agree with the main point of the thread, Wiggins cannot "rebound from his position at an elite level" (unless you believe his position is SG).
He averaged 7 rebounds per 40, with a TRB% of 11. Jabari Parker averaged 11 rebounds per 40 with a TRB% of 17.
Kevin Durant averaged 12 rebounds per 40, Carmelo Anthony 11, Kawhi Leonard 13, Paul George 9.
I don't see evidence of a future great rebounder other than height. In fact the evidence points to an underwhelming rebounder compared to his physical tools... unless, that is, he increases his effort level.

And you know all this before he has even played even one game "at an elite level". Ok, then. I have no doubts that he'll become a very good player when he stays healthy, but like everyone else he has to prove himselve in the NBA first.

Why so much doubt? Hmmm I will let the kid (Wiggins) speak for himself. This is his quote back in January 2014, when he was giving an interview, he states "I didn

I thought Wiggins showed good instincts as a cutter too which would be super useful in an offense with Kyrie and Lebron.

It's cause he's Canadian. If he was from the States, the hype would be sounding a lot different. Just a few haters out there

this might be true..
as for me i think wiggins will be special based on his defense and athleticism . He is also just 19 years old and i believe he is a gym rat. even if lebron wont go back to cleveland i can see wiggins being the man there in the future.
cant wait for summer league :)

He was hyped as the next Durant, people watched him play and he clearly wasn't anywhere close to that. Wasn't even the best player on his own team.
So people soured on him a bit, he'll have to earn it all back with his play this year.

Its not that Wiggins isn't GOING to be a really good player. Its that he is 19 and he isn't at a point in his career where he can seriously contribute.
LeBron, Durant, etc were mediocre players at 19. He is NOT going to be a significant contributor to a championship level team this year. Or next. Hopefully in Y3 or Y4 he starts to round into shape.
Thats the issue with bringing in overly young players into the league.
