Free-agent forward James Johnson has agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Toronto Raptors, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Memphis had interest in re-signing Johnson, but he left for a return to Toronto. Utah and Houston had expressed interest too, sources said. Johnson averaged 7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds for the Grizzlies last season.

I was gonna do this headline:

WHAT THE F-CK!: James signing with the TORONTO RAPTORS for TWO years!

But, no one is gonna buy that....

That's a good signing. I wish he would've gotten all of Ed Davis' minutes in addition to his own last year. What a spark plug.

Sweet. I like it as I felt we needed more size on the wings.

Decent signing. Getting backup C would be nice but there is barely any options.

He'll work well with paired with Patpat as a 3. Played some good games for us last yr but his lack of consistent shooting really got him out of the rotation

Chuck Hayes and Amir should take care of that role just fine. Very few teams play with a center all the time anyway. You just hope Valanciunas stays healthy.

no pun intended

Solid contributor for the Grizzlies last year. A jack-of-all-trades player. Loved his sick tmac-esque off-the-backboard self alley-oop dunk last year.

On playoff caliber team Hayes shouldn't get any minutes.

Yeah he had stretches of very good play but he just wasn't a good fit for your offense

He is very limited but 6-8 minutes here and there, depending on matchups, wouldn't hurt. It's also good to keep him in the rotation in case injuries arrive.

You're stuck with his contract so might as well keep him engaged

Love his defense. Great to have him back in a role that will actually suit him

He's especially good closing out on perimeter players, which the Raps sorely lacked. I think T. Ross is just too small to play the 3.

Page 2 and still no obligatory depth chart?

C - Jonas / Hayes
F - Amir / Patpat
F - Ross / JJ
G - Derozan / Lou Williams
G - Lowry / Vasquez

With a 4th quarter line up of

C - Jonas
F - Patpat
F - Derozan
G - Vasquez
G - Lowry

Sub in Vasquez / JJ for offense / defense

Very good. I really like the Lowry-Derozan-Ross-JJ-Amir lineup for defensive purposes. Very athletic, can destroy any PnR and fly on the fastbreak

I was just about to do this and then my computer had to reconfigure.

Kyle Lowry / Greivis Vasquez / Dwight Buycks
DeMar DeRozan / Lou Williams / Landry Fields
Terrence Ross / James Johnson / Bruno Caboclo
Amir Johnson / Patrick Patterson / Tyler Hansbrough
Jonas Valanciunas / Chuck Hayes / Lucas Nogueira

I don't think were down making moves, though. I'm sure Masai wants to unload Fields and Hayes and get back needs in return (most likely an NBA read back up center).

The best 4th quarter lineup and what worked in last year's playoffs was this:

C: Amir
PF: Patrick
SF: DeMar
SG: Greivis
PG: Kyle

That unit has the best combination of speed, shooting and versatility. I think if DeMar continues to improve his 3 point shot, it will be even more potent.

Best potential defensive unit now:

C: Chuck
PF: Amir
SF: James
SG: Terrence
PG: Kyle

But I don't think we really run that lineup often. Infact, it would be better suited to move Chuck. Although, Masai probably feels since he and Fields are both expiring contracts, he'll most likely keep them.

The only one I wish to upgrade now is Chuck Hayes. The rest is great.

I see almost everyone putting Amir over Jonas in 4th quarters, and for obvious reasons... Jonas makes defensive mistakes, doesn't rotate well, tends to rush shots...

But I really think its time to get more defensive seasoning especially in crunchtime. That's the only way he'll take that next step.

Jonas rookie season was far from ideal, but I remember someone crunched the numbers between him and Aaron Gray (who's the poster child for solid and unspectacular). Suprisingly Jonas performed better because even if he made mistakes, he was athletic enough to recover and make a defensive play.

I want to see how he does with a full training camp with Vasquez, maybe they can run a nice P&R.

Last season was supposed to be his breakout which never happened. Let's see this time.

I love how on realgm everyone is biitching about how he beat his wife and therefore is a bad influence on the team, even though she never showed up in court after.

Plus who gives a shit, what he does at home, or to a lesser extent on the plane, I home he brings his woman beating experience on the court and slaps the shiiit out of Chris Bosh next time they meet.

If we can agree that a) the league was way tougher in the 70s and that b) most athletes beat the shit out of their spouses back then, which I believe both are a given, then there is a direct correlation between toughness and abusing husbands. I'll take Kobe the rapist and JJ the wife beater on my team any day, fukk this soft role model business

I was reading there too, but the Realgm posters would bitch about anything the Raptors do.

James Johnson's main problem on the court was demanding more shots, which seemed to be his problem in Chicago, Sacramento, Atlanta... before finally understanding his role in Memphis. Also clashed with Casey a couple of times too. Rumor has it that he smoked weed on the team bus and that he was telling fans at a restaurant that Casey was a bad coach. All of this resulted in a decrease in his playing time.

The 14/15 Raptors are shaping up to be quiet a formidable team with potential growth and upside. James isn't going get the same treatment on a weak team like the 11/12 Raptors, where the talent and coaching has improved drastically. I think he'll be on his best behaviour this time around.

The weed incident was on the plane, apparently. But I remember watching him do some incredible things on the defensive end a couple of years back on the raps. He is definitely talented, and as he gets older and more mature, and gives up on his potential dreams of becoming a star, he will eventually embrace his role as a defensive stopper and energy player, and truly become an asset.

Also helps that he was teammates with Amir and DeMar in his first tenure.
