View Full Version : If Lebron returns to cleveland, can anyone dispute the fact that he was a ring chaser

ring chasing is the easiest way to win a ring, without a doubt any of the top 100 players in nba history couldve won a ring if they ring chased, especially if they did it in their prime, if he returns to cleveland, the value of his rings are gonna drop even lower than their current value, which arent that high to begin with

Lebron's a barnacle, leeching off other stars
first he frenemied Wade and Bosh and used them
now that they are washed up, he's bout to do the same to wiggins and kyrie

Its hard to say with him because he's the best player in the league. Normally ring chasers go to teams that are already stacked. When you look at the NBA now, that big three doesn't seem like it is the clear cut best of all other teams' core players. Lebron was eventually carrying everyone else.
At the same time, I'd always felt if he was going to leave the heat, his only move he could make without his legacy being completely destroyed was Cleveland. It is definitely his home.
Bottom line, I think he does want to win a bunch of rings, which is okay. But because of the situation of possibly going to his home, and the team that drafted him in the first place, some will argue that it was somehow a coincidence.

What's wrong with being a ring chaser. If he stayed in Cleveland originally and took the money, we'd say he doesn't care about winning. If he goes to a team that has a good chance to win, you bash him anyway.
There's literally nothing that he could do that people wouldn't find something to bash him for.

It's easy to say that. Especially if you are a fan of a team that players actually want to go to. Who in the hell wants to play in Cleveland? Nobody.

But he's less likely to win in Cleveland.:confusedshrug:

Cleveland won 30 games last year bro.
Ring chasing my azz.
Basically any team Lebron goes to will be a contender. So I guess he'd be a ring chaser no matter where he went, because he's just that damn good.

Stacked? It's nowhere near stacked. How is it stacked? They were a putrid team that added the number 1 pick who clearly isn't going to dominate right away. Are you saying Wiggins makes them stacked? :oldlol:

If he was leeching off of a championship team sure, especially if he was just a sidekick aswell or worse there... but coming to a team that was much worse than his, a team which either missed the playoffs or lost in 1st round since 2006 and put it on his back instantly turning it into a championship team, 4 straight finals and 2 championships... and THEN come back to Cleveland in 2014 which was a horrible team everyday since his very departure in 2009 and most probably turn it into a championship team aswell, just like that.... sorry.... no... thats not a ring chaser.... more like arguably the most impactful player perhaps ever....

Going to Cleveland is not ring chasing. If he went to the Clippers, Bulls or Houston that would be ring chasing but he is, reportedly, joining a 33 win team that has not even sniffed the playoffs since he left. It has young talent and has a better core than Miami, but if his objective is to chase rings, among teams that could sign him, LAC, HOU, CHI are his best bets (in no order) and several more teams like DAL and PHX are better options than Cleveland.

but he would be seen as a mercenary if he went to a third team. winning in cleveland is the only way to truly magnify his legacy

You are right that he would receive flack for going anywhere else, but it does show he is not simply a ring chaser. The only thing Cleveland is #1 in is in its marketing potential for him, which goes to your shrewd point. LeBron's popularity never rebounded to its pre-Decision level. Returning to Cleveland could repair that--and perhaps winning there could propel him to an even higher level of popularity. The narrative would be too good if LeBron is in the Finals with Cleveland. Other than fans of the opposing team and LeBron haters, who would be rooting against him?

Free agency didn't start in the NBA until the summer of 1988.
So no, not all top 100 players could ring chase in their prime.

Nate Silver ran the numbers on how many projected wins various teams would have with LeBron. Cleveland projected to 52 wins, as did Miami. The Rockets, Clippers, Bulls, Hawks and Suns had the best projections.
