No, he wasn't. But Shaq goes ringless without Kobe, which is a fact, no matter how much people here don't want that to be so. Unless ISH wants to think that Shaq somehow became unstoppable right at the moment Kobe finally made the leap from a "very good" to elite player.

2001 Spurs: 58 wins, but they faced the Lakers with Derek Anderson injured (Duncan's second option).

The Kings were better than the Spurs minus Derek Anderson without question, and the Sixers actually beat the Lakers once (no other team did).

The 01 WCF was anything but "the actual Finals". The Spurs were arguably their easiest opponent, and the backcourt which Kobe went up against consisted of Derek Anderson, Terry Porter, Danny Ferry, and Avery Johnson.

Kobe was amazing in 01, but he wasn't the MVP of the real Finals. The actual Finals was either the Sixers series (Shaq) or the Kings series (close but probably Shaq).

I like you, but you hate Kobe. I have to disregard you when he is involved.

Personally, I don't mind Duncan being ahead of Kobe. I see it both ways. You just seem to have a lot of hate in your heart for the Spurs heart breaker.

I've already said, multiple times, that Kobe was arguably better than Shaq in 01. I don't hate anybody.

I'm just stating facts (irrefutable ones by the way). The 2001 Spurs were either the worst or second worst opponent that Lakers squad faced, and Kobe went up against one of the most atrocious NBA backcourts I can ever think of. It wasn't the real Finals. It wasn't even close.

:oldlol: @ anyone calling that Spurs team "young and prime."

Both Sean Elliott and David Robinson were just about set to retire at that point. As a matter of fact, I think that Elliott retired after that season with one good knee, and one good kidney left that he needed a transplant to get. Dude had one foot in the grave only a year earlier. Robinson only lasted a couple of more seasons, but was little more than a role player.

Anyone care to guess what happened the first time Kobe met up with the Spurs in the playoffs? Spurs swept them. Yeah, Kobe was a real Spurs killa back in his early years. :oldlol:

Cherry pick much? Maybe you can tell us what happened to the great Spurs killer in 99 and 03. And if the clock keeper starts the clock on time for Fisher's .04 shot in 2004, that's another series you can chalk up for the Spurs. But let's forget that and give all the credit to Kobe instead, right?

Typical Lakers/Kobe fans. Cherry picking their way through their own revisionist history. It's getting to be like a fishing tale. By the time they explain it to their grandkids, the Lakers will have beaten the Spurs in every single match-up against them, while Kobe was blindfolded, with one hand tied behind his back.

Spurs only had to shut down LBJ, Shaq was their main defensive objective in 2001 so this is comparing apples and oranges. Not to mention 2007 Spurs had a better perimeter defence.

Sit down boy and don't call your false idol the GOAT. Just so you know you're replying to pauk's gimmick account. But as far as the '07 Spurs defense on LeBron? Pop had Bruce Bowen sag off him about 25 feet and let LeBron shot jumpers and he did nothing about it becuase he had no midrange game.

I'll explain to you right now, ISHiot. He was 20 years old in 1999, and he had knee and shoulder injuries in 03, yet still put up 32/5/4 against them.

Kobe would have done them even worse in 04 if he had proper rehab from his offseason surgeries which left him with subpar speed and hops for his standards.

For Kobe, raping both Duncan and Robinson in the paint is like brushing his teeth in the morning. Nothing to see here really. The Spurs franchise always picked the left-overs when the Lakers had off-years. Vulture franchise at its finest.

Lol at these clowns that know nothing about those years acting like they know. Kobe IS a Spurs killer. There is no other player over a 10 year stretch that dominated that franchise like Kobe did - nobody.

Surely you understand having the benefits of having a legitimate #2 option on offence and as Ne1 stated before, Lebron's jumper was not what it currently is in 2007 so San Antonio could give him more space and force him to shoot jumpers.
Kobe had Gasol in 2008 and when he was with Shaq he was the #2 and didn't receive the same attention from defences because of it.
Always remember Duncan>Kobe
