I don't really like getting into the ins and outs of the new CBA, cap space, MLE, Bird's rights and all that technical shit, it's all Greek to me and I don't pretend to be an expert.

I know we're going after Melo and he's gonna take up a big chunk of our cap space and we might even have to get rid of some pieces if he wants more than what we are currently offering. For the sake of argument, let's look at a Melo starting five as if we don't have to do a S & T and he takes what we are offering...(the thing with Melo though is that I feel if we really have a shot at him, we're going to have to give up Taj or Niko or McDermott or Butler, any combination of those guys plus draft picks, ugh)

PG Rose
SG Butler
SF Melo
PF Gibson
C Noah

Is that really that much better than a line up of Lance Stephenson and Pau Gasol if we can't get Melo? I really hate to gut our team to get Melo, I like what our FO is doing by bringing in shooters like Mirotic and McDermott. Call me crazy but I love this starting 5...

PG Rose
SG Stephenson
SF Butler
PF Gasol
C Noah

We can bring Taj off the bench and he'll play big minutes, especially late in the game for his defense. We get to keep our shooters like Mirotic and McDermott, we have DJ Augustine backing up Rose and we bring back Kirk a vet's min. I love the second line up more, especially if we go Rose, Stephenson, Butler, Gibson and Noah to close out a game, that defense!

I like team 1, perfect balance of offense and defense, I love Lance, but hes no Melo.

If it had been a Prime Gasol, I would have taken the second. But the first team is a better in this scenario. Good defense, good offense.

Another thing, Stephenson can create for himself and others, he's a good passer, something Anthony really isn't. Imagine the athleticism of Rose, Lance, Butler and Gibson

Maybe overall yes but to get Melo we'll probably have to get rid of Taj along with either Mirotic or McDermott, probably Butler too. I don't like that. I like the second line up when you consider we'll have more depth. We saw how important shooting and depth was in the Finals.

Lance isn't super athletic IMO, but he is very long and tricky on offense

Well Taj is in your scenario. :confusedshrug:

To be honest I dont like how because the Spurs won the chip this year people start to say that shooting and depth is now the standard for a championship. Those things are important, yes, but you cant just ignore the past decades of chips won by star power.

Unless you have Popovich coaching you're not going to create another Spurs on the Bulls no matter what personnel you put in there. The depth would be nice, but Melo is too good to pass up for the role players you listed. Well you probably cant lose Taj, but Mirotic and McDermott are expendable.

The Mavs also beat the Heat with shooting and depth, TBH, had LeBron played to his standards, Heat might've won. Yeah, you do make a good point, not every coach can coach like Pop.

BTW, McDermott and Mirotic are highly rated by scouts, some have projected Mirotic as even being the 4th best prospect if he were in the draft this year, only behind Wiggins, Parker and Embiid. Scouts also thought McDermott should've been a lottery pick, too.

Team 1 and it's not close..

Melo >>>>>>>> Lance. Both as a player, and in terms of fit with Chicago's existing roster.

And Pau vs Taj really depends on what you need. Taj is the secondary post defender/rebounder Chicago needs, while Pau gives you scoring which isn't exactly that needed with Melo and Rose there, as well as mediocre defense.

Anthony is a fine passer and underrated in that area, actually watch the games before you comment on them. He's just had no reliable second option to pass to.

Well I was being overly general. The Mavs had shooting and depth, but Dirk(star) was the main cataylst as was Lebron playing like a non star. Depth is fine but it rarely beats star power and talent. Granted I dont think Melo or Rose are overly reliable playoff stars so there is that to consider....

I was speaking more in a win right now kinda mode. Those two need time to develop into key pieces imo.

team 2.

ask any point guard and they'll give you that answer.

ask a coach who thinks he can get away with the offense through iso plays and elite players as long as he can find a way to create a shut down defense.

they'll say team 1.

Team 2,
Melo is too old and expensive.

Team 1. Two superstars plus a third all-star is the winning Chicago formula.

melo is being overrated. we will have a pretty deep team if we dont have to let go of pieces to get melo. nikola and mcdermott are already huge upgrades for us, plus taj and butler are becoming veterans at this point.

I dunno, but I don't like Melo on the Bulls. I rather have him staying with the Knicks, because every time I watch Bulls vs Knicks, it was always exciting.
