I like the move a lot if they can trade out Nash's salary and bring in Stevenson.
Lin will at least be able to play in the majority of games unlike Nash.
Lin, Lance, Kobe would be a strong starting 1-3. KButter off the bench is a great backup for him... now just got to get our front court in order.

Why would anyone care that he scored 38 on the Lakers? Isn't the point you want to acquire players with at least the potential to be great? They added Steve Blake after he dropped a great triple double on them too. You want players that are good, not just the crappy ones.

I asked this in the other thread but will Gasol re-sign? The consensus was that he would easily if Melo signed with us but that's not looking likely. So does he take a chance signing with us again?

if they can free up Nash's salary, they have 28 million to spend.... they could offer Bosh 18 and Lance 10.

I think this is a very underrated move. We're not giving up anything to get him except for the cash + we get a future pick. Lin has been on and off, but with Nash on the roster to mentor him & with the right coach, he could get back to what he was doing under D'Antoni in NY given the right system.
Counts 8.3M against the cap, we stretch Nash, still about 30 mil left to spend. Hopefully we re-sign Hill, get some 3 & D guys & I wouldn't mind Ariza or even Lance.

This is a good deal. a $15m a year contract, but look at the revenue.

He's my favorite player and LA is my favorite team. What isn't there to love about this deal for me.
For the team...who knows. LA has more holes than even the Lin from Linsanity could fill. LA isn't doing much of anything anytime soon. It's LA, so I'm not too worried...they WILL be contenders again soon...just a matter of time.

Truthfully I'm more excited to have Lin come to the Lakers than Melo. We all know kobe's not going to be able to take as many FGA as he used to so we need a PG who's willing to shoot who will take that pressure off of gasol as well. With Randle in the mix everything balances out, don't you see? Melo would've just turned the offense into a bricking competition. And sure Lin likes to chuck it too but I'm sure Kobe will be able to talk some sense into him.

To trade Nash they need to take on at least 6 mil in contracts. Kobe's deal has crippled them, they will not make the playoffs next year unless Melo signs. In that case they are a first round exit. If Melo and Gasol, sign (I can't see it) They could win a series, but the Thunder, Clippers, Rockets and Spurs are at least as good.

Better than Nash at this point since he can stay on the floor, and he only has one year left I believe, so it doesn't hurt us.
It seems like Kobe's only playing two more years though, so this move (to me, for now) makes it look like we won't be a threat to do damage in the playoffs this season, which does suck.

I don't think any team at this point is so much better than anyone else that it's a guarantee they will win the championship. The Spurs have the best coach and a great system with strong players in all positions so they're the best choice but even they can be pushed as we saw in the first round last year.
I just want the Lakers to be competitive again. That doesn't mean championship expectations, just in the fight.

so with lin (granted, we stretch nash) as worst we'd still have about 20 mil in cap. maybe more (not sure how much lins contract eats)
Lakers can still fill the team with good role players. lin is a pick and roll PG, and right now, we have no Pick and roll players. Hill and lin may look good together, though.
Lin
Bazemore? or Kobe starts
Kobe or Re-sign Wes and have him start here
Randle
Hill
3 players who can create offense and 2 players for defensive purposes. cohesive and if healthy, somewhat dangerous

Well this is dependent on what Randle and Kobe are going to look like.
If Randle is solid and Kobe looks good then they'll be a competitive team depending on other moves they'll make.
If Randle struggles and Kobe has a hard time staying away from injury then they'll feel it for sure.

so, as I see it, you guys have about 45 million committed to Lin, Nash, Bryant, Sacre, Randle and Marshall. That means you have 7 cap holds at the minimum (about another 7 million).
That leaves about 11 million in cap space, which isnt enough to pry the RFAs (monroe for example) away and might not be enough to add Stephenson (Indiana alreadly offered him 11 per).

Lin is a great guy and in spurts he can be good. Word of advice, his fans are annoying and borderline insane so you will in time see what I mean but people shouldn't get down on him because of his loonie fans. best of luck to lin, it did not work out with us, but I wish him well in la.

I suggested Nash because he was the only white guy on the Lakers I knew of. Them non blacks gotta stick together in this mostly black league.
Lin will get along with Xavier Henry too since both are Christians.
Coincidentally Henry wears Lin's preferred #7, which also has a Christian meaning.

Just keep Nash. I'd rather it all comes off the books next year rather than having 3 million sitting around on the cap for three years.
LOL.. wow we boned. I would rather we tossed that cash at kings isiah thomas than lin. Probably would have been cheaper and more of an impact if we could have gotten him.
Do not want Lin on the Lakers.. Kupchak and Buss just got rolled by morey.
Also Kevin Love is not coming to the Lakers. c'mon man. Be real.
As far as Melo... I do not think he was a viable player for us from the start, me and coworkers argued about it. Him and Kobe do not mesh for $hit.
So Long Pau. You need a fresh start anyways. People don't appreciate what he gave. I do Hope we sign Jordan hill back though. We need him.

You got a 1st round draft pick and a one year expirer in Lin. The Lakers were/are going ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE this year in ANY scenario, no matter who you got. Unless that person was LeBron and you know how that turned out.
. You get to rent a player for a year who only counts $8m towards your cap, lock down those draft picks, and you didn't give anything up in return. How stupid do you have to be to assess that situation and conclude you "got boned" :facepalm

Well it's not a terrible trade. The cap hit doesn't really matter, since we were never going to land a big FA this season. And the first rounder, even though it will be in the high 20s, is a bonus. Still enough space to sign one more quality FA even if we keep Nash.
Overall I think it's a decent trade even if we did Houston a solid.

Spoiled? I state my opinion and been a lakers fan since 1980. Been through the good and bad but I'm spoiled for not wanting Lin? I'll tell you what why don't you rent him on your team for 15 mil. Lakers could have just started Jordan Clarkson at pg and resigned gasol for 15 mil. I bet getting 5 below scrub Lin was an insult to gasol.. Hell I wouldn't resign with Lin getting more than me.

Great steal by the Lakers. Lin is a great fit because he can compliment Kobe's game. A vastly underrated solid player who can shine when given the greenlight. With the Lakers, he'll finally be a starter and will take a much larger role than the Rockets and Knicks. The only question is will he get along with Kobe? Lin has a problem with jealously from other team members due to Linsanity (which is both a blessing and a curse).

Well, if the plan is to tank and keep space cleared for next year's FA class and 2016, then it's a cost cutting move. We got a free draft pick thrown in. I wish Nash would retire or do another sign and trade. I would have loved to have Ariza back.

I tell my friends and one of my younger brothers and his friends' that they need to except reality. They are chasing that elusive 6th ring with Kobe. Chris Paul was the nail in the coffin along with Dwight being a complete bust while not rehiring Phil, for us tying the Celtics in championships in the Kobe Bryant-era Los Angeles Lakers. The West is too dominant. The greatest back court in NBA history was vanished into thin air by David Stern. Has anyone still managed to let that sink in? I said that Chris Paul trade veto was the worst thing that happened to the franchise in a long time.
