Solid role player, D'Antoni misused him :confusedshrug:

Great rebounder, high energy hustle player with a nice spin move and decent short to mid-range J. Not worth $9m a year though IMO

18M? WOj better had a typo, how u gonna pay 9 mil a year for someone, who hasn't been healthy for one damn season and has never even averaged more than 20.8 ppg for a full season? damn.

His stats are solid and he brings a lot of hustle and he's a great rebounder & has improved his shot, but in no way is he worth that much money...

His health problems scares me away if I was a GM of a team. I'd rather have a worse player on the court than somebody who doesn't play.

Lakers just trying to keep their options open for 2016 when the salary cap jumps upward.

If we stretch Nash, around 19m + the MLE. Still enough space to get an all-star caliber player. Hopefully Mitch already has Lance or Deng locked up because otherwise this deal makes no sense. I'd rather we sign Pau for 12m a year than give Hill 18 for 2 yrs...

This will be 2 long years for the Lakers.

Are people really that confused about him making that much? He's a big who can rebound. Those are virtually guaranteed to make a ton of money so the Lakers knew what they were in for.

Not sure what this means for the cap space between this and Young, not even sure Gasol is coming back at this point but at least they managed to keep something going.

Does it matter? They're obviously planning to shed all their salary for the 2016 free agency. Between him and Kobe alone, that's $33 million in cap space opening up for 2016.

Lin is 8 I believe and Hill and Nick go for 14. Lakers had about 25 mil with minimum holds. Lance is way out of the question and It looks like Pau's bird rights would have to be renounced to make these moves.

There's no money left and they cant go over the cap to resign him. Looks like they chose JHill over Pau.

no. Basically at 54 million in salary with another 6 mil in salary. So, you have about 3 mil to spend before you hit the "cap"

How the **** do you get this? 23.5 for kobe, 3 mil for stretch nash, 8.5 mil for lin, 9 mil for hill, 1 mil each for sacre and marshall, and randle (3mil? I dont know the rate) which is 49 million. plus 6 cap holds at over a million (sorry, but they count) and you are at 55 million. so you have about 8 million to the cap. Pretty sure you cannot use the MLE if you started below the cap.....

ignore my prior post about 3 mil

I like it. We weren't signing anyone else anyway, and in a year that $9 million dollars will give us flexibility in case we're looking to make a trade.

Important number here is the 2 years. Who cares if it's 9-12 million? Lakers ain't gonna get desperate and sign a piece of shit free agent like the Knicks did with Amare in 2010.

At least they didn't ChanningFrye themselves.

Their minimum holds are only 500k. Randle already counts for 2.6. If Nash were stretched they would be around 54.5 committed. The holds are lower but you didn't add Nick Young.

It's big money, but only 2 years. Not that bad. Still not sure why they paid so much but short term deals become tradable expiring contracts very quickly. Especially with a team option, it's essentially a 9m expiring contract now with the chance that a nice young player will continue to improve and be a valuable asset on his own.

I don't hate this signing, which sucks because I hate the Lakers.

Team option on the second year means it's trade able instantly. Good deal.

Melo's smart to stay the hell away from the Lakers the team is truely directionless. 22 million between Lin, Swaggy P and Hill   front office has no clue how to build a team.

Directionless? Uh... they're clearly aiming for 2015 and 2016 free agency.

Next year: Lin, Jordan (if Lakers use their team option) and Nash come off the books. That's 26 million. That's Kevin Love and another guy of their choosing. Or KLove and Rondo if they both take less than the max, or almost max if Lakers trade off some other assets.

The following year: Kirby off the books. That's 25 million. That's the year Durant is unrestricted.

The plan is quite obvious, actually.

Yeah saw that and edited. It's really a good signing. Every now and then contracts like this make a lot of sense. Instead of giving a guy a 3-4 year deal you give him a lot of money over 1-2 years and give yourself a future asset. If the player bombs, well he got paid so he's happy and the team can trade the contract away or decline the option. If he does well he earns the money and plays himself right in to another good deal.

Yes directionless genius. You don't blow your capspace on Jordan Hill and Nick Young. New flash Kevin Love isn't going to enter free agency. Yes I'm sure Rondo is jumping at the idea of heading to the Lakers to play with Randle and Nick Young. This is the wrong way to go about free agency. The plan is idiotic because they should be at least a 2nd round team if they want to attract Durant in 2016. At this rate they'll be a lottery team the next 2 years with a pick in only one of those year. The only thing that can save us is Randle turning into a 20-10 beast.
