He's gonna average at least 16/6 this year. Book it.

Yea....its Nick. Or Payton who people forget was still a 20/8/5 player on the sonics and Bucks in 03 before signing with the Lakers that summer.

Helly chucky Atkins was decent in 05...though someone is probably about to laugh at him being mentioned.

I was thinking about mentioning Nick when I saw the thread. Too bad Nick, Eddie Jones, and Campbell couldn't stick around long enough for Phil Jackson to go to LA.

Lin is trash. Van Exel was far better than Lin ever was.

Saying Van Exel is the best point guard Kobe ever played with is like saying the best player T Mac played with was was Vince Carter. Yeah they technically played together but it's misleading considering T Mac wasn't T Mac yet and they rarely played there together for long stretches at a time since T Mac came off the bench.

 Lin is actually a good facilitator and can run an offence but too bad there was this super ball-hog and stupid coach on his team that didn't allow him to play his game.

You seem to forget the fact that he played with the greatest PG of all time in Payton.

So? A lot of great wing players didn't play with PGs that were that much better. Jordan played with Paxson and BJ. Lebron played with Mo Williams. Who cares? He also played with arguably the GOAT center.

he was FINISHED

In Payton's defense (sort of) it was because he couldn't pick up the triangle. It was fundamentally different front his usual style. Lol the guy was having a lot of trouble learning it.

Payton put up 15/6/4 on 47% shooting as a 3rd or 4th option on the Lakers. He stepped up now and then when asked. Payton on the Lakers is one of those players villianized in retrospect. I remember posters on here...Laker fans....being impressed with how he accepted his role and played hard.

He wasn't fully washed up yet. He was a 20/8 player on a playoff team months before joining the Lakers. He just slid into a reduced role....and still had a better season than Lin has ever had.

As for Chucky....

14/4 from a role player point is hardly terrible. I didn't call him a star. I said he was decent.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/atkinch01/gamelog/2005/

That really isn't a decent performance from a role player?

There were plenty of nights he and Kobe were all LA had going for them. He had 25+ games of 18-30 points. He did well in a role bigger than he usually had to fill. But im the one who doesn't remember 2005....because I called him decent?

All agreed at the time that Chucky had a solid year.

This is going to be like New York all over again. Kobe isn't about to let Lin handle the ball. Lakers should have gotten more of a Derek Fisher-type point guard.

unless the Lakers have insurance on Kobe.

he might be collecting most of his pay checks on the bench.

Yeah, Payton was a bad fit and even criticized the triangle offense. People also do seem to forget that he was atrocious on both ends of the court during the Finals, got torched by Billups.

He played zero defense. ZERO

And he did nothing but shot 3's on the other end.

At least Smush Parker had a inside game.

that is if Kobe commits to winning and not stat padding

Lin is my favorite player but he's still got a long ways to go.

At this point I would say Fisher > Lin in terms of importance on a championship team. Lin has more ability than Fisher but Fish was the heart and soul of the team. Played solid D, took the timely charge (flop) when it mattered, was always dependable with the rock and clutch as ****.

At worst they will be an 8 seed. But playoffs I'm almost certain they will make.

And they will play better than the Dwight led Lakers team.

I hope the Lakers are ready and willing to run. Lin pushed the ball on the break as fast as anyone else in the league. For all his faults he is fearless on the break.
