nice try. payton has showed sustained consistency and his vision is elite.

Measures up well compared to smart. Smart has more bulk and uses it to finish better but so far payton has shown great court vision and a good offensive game when playing more aggressive. I was down on him before the draft and yes we've only seen summer league but he looked really good at times. Also great to see that when we matched up against players who were scoring alot we shut them down. Payton could easily be one of the steals this season if he keeps it up. He looked like he knew his game well too and didn't Jack up shots or do anything stupid. Summer league is hard to judge but I'm happy with him so far.

I love that he plays hard on both ends too, good counter for oladipo too because he slows it up and makes the right move more.

I just read a stat that in college 57% of his shots were at the rim, and he finished at a 70% rate. Considering the spacing in college, wow. That's good.

Jameerthefear
07-12-2014, 07:24 PM
% of Shots at Rim
57.40% - E. Payton
38.10% - T. Ennis
37.40% - S. Dinwiddie
34.70% - M. Smart
26.60% - S. Napier

FG% at Rim
70.40% - E. Payton
64.90% - M. Smart
59.20% - S. Dinwiddie
54.70% - T. Ennis
53.00% - S. Napier

Very good.

He's gotta be related to Gary Payton in some way. Not saying he's gonna be better than or as good as The Glove, but the size/bodyframe, some of the skillset, I see some similarities.

might end up as a better passer.

He's definitely superior to the guy Orlando chose at #4.

But no, simply put, the steal of the draft is Kyle Anderson. Anyone with a 1/4 of basketball knowledge would know that as a soon to be fact.

Hardly, the potential is there but he has a lot of work to put in to overcome his obvious weaknesses. I am definitely rooting for him but he is far from a sure thing

Well if he was touted as the best PG in the draft and high on everyone's boards. People would be saying that, so far, out of the top picks he's been the arguably the best.

So yeah, at #10 he's a steal. So far.

Gonna love seeing Smart vs. Payton vs. Exum arguments for the next years.

He's a guy that doesn't have to score to have an impact. Terrific court awareness and an amazing defender. Perfect guy to pair up with Oladipo.

Jameer, who's your starting SF?

Payton
Oladipo
SF
Gordon
Vucevic

Harris I suppose. We might even bring Gordon off the bench to start the season. I want Payton starting from DAY ONE. Vaughn **** the vets. He's ready. Put him out there and let him make mistakes.

Not surprised OP doesn't understand the concept of "steal of the draft".

Lottery picks aren't steals unless everyone ahead of him turns into a bust. He was picked high for a very good reason.

I would have thought something like

Payton\oladipo\fournier
Oladipo\fournier\ben gordon
Harkless\gordon
Frye\harris
Vucevic\oquinn

We played Gordon at small forward until osby and dedmon got injured in summer league. I don't think it'll matter too much which forward spot he's in right now as he won't be doing much offensively but he defends the 3 better. If we are actually going to win some games frye will be important for payton and oladipo to kick it out to. I'm also not sure that we will even start Payton, with how they lined up in summer league it wouldn't surprise me if we start Oladipo at the point still with Payton off the bench.

So picking up a potential stud (still early but this is a speculation thread) at 10 isn't a steal when he was the third guard off the board? Stop hating on jameer and use some common sense for once. Anyone who has all star potential and is picked out of the top 5 is usually a lucky pick.

I really really want Payton to start from day one. I think he and Oladipo need as much chemistry as possible. Starting Oladipo at PG again would be ew imo

It's too early to choose a steal of the draft but he could be a potential candidate.

He has to get stronger with the ball and improve his shot but he has a lot of potential and he plays hard
