2 YEAR DEAL 42.1M (MAX) with Cavs
Windhorst says he intends to do this to look forward to the future of the cap
Maybe take a paycut?

At this point I don't really think Lebron gives a shit about his salary, he gets most of his money from endorsements and stuff anyways

Windy says he will be looking for the max in 2016 when the cap jumps much higher. Also, Cavs will have his bird rights at that point.

I would expect so, because if he left in 2 years he'll be hated more than he was before... It makes sense he does a 2 year deal for the long-term with the franchise.

Brian Windhorst ‏@WindhorstESPN 1m
LeBron is expecting the salary cap to jump massively in 2016, James aims to re-sign at that time. Fully committed to Cavs long term.

I was expecting two years myself. Not for not committing because he's probably still going to be the best player and he's the face of the franchise. Salary caps will rise in 2016 and he could get more money, or redo a deal give the franchise more flexibility to win.

This is what I think. If he literally bolts after 2 years, the whole Coming Home thing was a fraud and he'll be looked at even more negatively than when he left the first time. It wouldn't make sense.

But the sad part is, even though most of us know he's staying and it would be stupid to leave and hurt his image further than before, the media will still play that card and talk about him leaving.

If the management fails and doesn't build a winner, he can easily get out of a bad situation and still get a huge contract elsewhere.

I can't believe you people are even discussing this crap. I had more faith in ISH, but that's some shit some casual fan who only goes to ESPN for news talks about.

Get a grip!

The cap is expected to raise up to as much as 80 million in 2016 w/ new tv deal for the NBA. 80 mill people! The max will jump as well. This is a business decision. Also, there may be a pending lockout that offseason. Who knows. Smart move financially and strategically going forward.

Not saying that is likely to happen, but it would be interesting to see whether LeBron's heartfelt letter was the truth and not bullshit.

I just don't buy it. Going to Cleveland wasn't about redemption, it was about business and joining a younger, more talented core.

LeBron will retire in Clevleand.

Let's be real, people will respect him more if he stayed the rest of his career and did everything he could to win a championship, even if he failed.

This more about money than anything else. Also, he could take less in case another legit player wants to join him.

Did you read that open letter? It wasn't addressed to the Cavs or the Heat or to NBA fans....it was addressed to Ohioans and the people of that area. You really think he's going to leave them? I think even if he wins ONE title back home, he will be content for his career. He specifically said in his letter that he never really considered any other teams.

LeBron is a grown ass man now and he understands his legacy and his place. He's not going to go jump again :facepalm

I don't get the need for a 1 yr opt out . He's not leaving , don't get it twisted. But the two year opt out I get, not the 1 yr. you can't even guarantee Cleveland 2 yrs?

This is why the nets strategy makes no sense to me btw, in 2016 there cap will jump. So all these title contenders will have cap room probably to add Durant. But he's going to go play with Deron and no one else, not join Lebron or Melo or Lakers, etc. Teams that will have cores.
