View Full Version : Lucy looks great

anyone else really want to see this movie?
the whole premise has piqued my curiosity. I love the idea of someone getting 100% brain power and developing these powers, altho how that happens doesn't make much sense. like why shoot up a random girl with that power?
anyways i've had little to no motivation to go watch any movies since the last few weren't worth the $15~ these days i felt...

On the surface but it's very different in concept and set up. Too bad it's a complete myth that we only use 10% (or whatever small % goes around you're area) of our brains.

The "we only use 10% of our brain" shit is nonsense and it looks stupid as fvck. lol'd when the people all fall to the ground in the trailer.

the humans only use 10% of their brain is a myth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NubJ2ThK_U
ted talk on it
To summarize, 2/3rds of americans have this false belief, because
1. A misunderstand of a quote from william james the father of american psychology said "most of us dont reach our mental potential" He meant it as a challenge to work harder, not as an indictment of our brain use.
2. for a long time scientists did not know what the purpose of our massive frontal lobes were for or board areas of the parietal lobe. Damage to these areas didnt produce immediately discernable results (eg harm motor or sensory skills). So for decades scientists believed they didnt do anything. They were called silent areas. We now know they control executive and integrative activity. Basically higher level thought, and what separates humans from lesser apes.
they are critical for planning, reasoning, decision making, adapting to change.
an adult human brain which is 2% of body mass, consumes 20% of our energy usage

i like how she becomes overpowered, its interesting, and it makes me curious what she gets at 100% they tease you with...
yeah their marketing is working on me but i like movies like this.
i'm sick of super hero movies, they're all starting to feel the same.
i just checked and its not even playing at any of the theaters around me. I look thru 3/4's of these movies and they all look awful. Tammy looks terrible, Malificnece reminds me of another Snow White like scary chilrdens movie, and Transformers has so much actions spam it puts you to sleep :facepalm I always did love the Dinobots tho when i was a kid....i DO want to see Planet of the Apes. I think that is looking pretty epic, but i thought the first was overrated since it got so hyped.

I want to see 22 Jump Street and Dawn of Planet of the Apes...it's been getting tremendous reviews. How to train your dragon 2 is supposed to be epic.
Hoping Sex Tape turns out to be funny. Can't miss Guardians of the Galaxy.

i thought how to train your dragon was decent but i'd probably never go see it in the theater, even if its 3d version. i feel the same with 22 Jump Street, they just feel like movies i won't miss out much on seeing when they come on HBO, Netflix and stuff. Its just real hard these days to justify that $15~, $9 sodas, $6? bottled waters?....i can't sit in a movie without sipping anything.
i am leaning real hard towards seeing Planet of the Apes in 3d. gotta talk to some people tho. i'll put a review up if i do.
I have 0 interest in seeing a movie that is based on a stupid myth. If the main premise assumes that the audience is filled with idiots, I assume the rest of the movie will be stupid as well.

Maybe myth is the wrong word here. Misconception is probably a better one. Part of it is likely due to me being a psychologist, so the concept just irks me. I'm fine with movies that are set in some alternate reality, or a myth that something exists that we aren't sure of (e.g., Bigfoot, aliens), but this movie is based on a misconception that has been shown repeatedly by science to be false. I can suspend my disbelief if the movie either had a smarter explanation or simply looked like it will be a better movie, but this movie makes me think the creators were either too lazy or too stupid to come up with a better explanation.

Maybe the Morgan Freeman character is just dumb? Maybe halfway through the movie ScarJo's like "nah, that's a myth, fggt."
:confusedshrug:
why so much morgan freeman hate? he's really good at support roles and especially at narrating stuff. he could be the best narrator in the biz...
granted it feels like he's in every damn movie.
Godzuki

I don't hate him, just sick of him. I'm thinking though, that maybe his character uses the whole 10% thing as a "lamen's terms" means/plot device of explaining what's going on with her brain to both the audience and the people in the movie world, but it's actually something else they'll get into in the movie.
Maybe that's a stretch but I'm gonna see it regardless.
yeah can't blame you being sick of him...i just always thought he did a good job at least with what his usage was in roles.
its definitely the next movie i'm going to see as soon as it shows up around here. I don't expect it to be better than Dawn of the Apes, but i think its at least going to be entertaining. to me 3/4's of the movies out there look really bad. Stuff like Tammy, You who came from the Stars or whatever that is, and a lot of stuff i never heard of really makes the few no brainers.

why are you guys all complaining about the movie using a myth? It didn't say its a documentary... its fictional...
whether the movie is good or not is another question but what's wrong with basing it off a situation that is already pretty much proven wrong but interesting to explore nonetheless?

Even if the 10% thing was true, obviously our brains would be like hard drives, the other 90% would be "system files" that you can't access but they are a crucial part of it regardless.
But how exactly does her growing internal brain power affect how she impacts people and objects externally? Some of the perks she gets make sense, but the "controlling matter/other people" part is pretty retarded. Limitless had a better structure considering he still had his human limits but his natural skills were all maxed out, he truly reached his full potential. In Lucy they take it into nonsense territory with super powers that have nothing to do with brain function.

Since there is no security checking everyone's ticket you can just walk out and walk into any other movie. Back in high school me and some friends used to go in early and watch like 3 movies. To me paying like 12 bucks for 1 movie is a rip off. 15-18 for 3D/Imax even worse.
