I don't know if he's practiced at being a point guard. Or has coaches shown interest for playing him at the point.

I think he's a little bit similar to Odom, he was a good starter on good teams where he just got to pick his spot and score early on with his career.

Comparing him and JR running the second unit.

I think JR can be paried with functional players well (i.e. birdman, ariza, etc)

While Mayo is someone who you can pair well with veterans past their physical prime, where Mayo can provide spacing for them to a certain degree against the second unit.
