He may not be a winner but he is still a really good player. He still has a chance to win guys. He has never relied on athleticism so his basketball career will be longer than others like Dwyane Wade.

True test for Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher's influence. Lets see what he can accomplish after a couple of seasons with them.

His problem is he is already 30. By the time Jackson can build a team, assuming he is adept at doing so as a GM, he will have declined. He most likely has only 2-3 elite seasons left and another 2-3 all-star caliber seasons after that. It is rare to successfully build around a 30 year old star for a reason. If he wanted to win he should have gone to Chicago...

And stop knocking him for not going to chicago, him and his wife love new york, the money was much, much better, and he's confident that he can win with "his" team.

Only missed the playoffs once in his career

Last year was the first losing season he has had

He never played with anyone who made an All-NBA team except for Billups (third team, 2009), Chandler (third team, 2012) and Amar’e (second team, 2011)

Carmelo is averaging 25.3 points for his entire career. Only 13 players averaged at least 25 points, and only 10 have a higher average than Melo: Jordan (30.1), Wilt (30.1), LeBron (27.5), Durant (27.4), Elgin (27.4), West (27.0), Iverson (26.7), Pettit (26.4), Oscar (25.7) and Kobe (25.5). Yes, that’s a list with six Hall of Famers and four future Hall of Famers.

Lead his team to college title

First player since Shaq to average 27 and 8

2 gold medals on usa basketball team

He averaged 20 points or more for each of his first 11 seasons. Only 11 other players accomplished that: Jordan, Wilt, Kareem, LeBron, Shaq, Hakeem, Ewing, Iverson, Pettit, Barry and Erving. Nine Hall of Famers, three future Hall of Famers.

He’s one of 10 players to score 62 points or more in an NBA game.

I guess he's just solid.

not really gonna get better or worse because he loses weight or gain weight.

I guess I can see a skinny Melo being better defensively, but probably gives you that 22-23 PPG instead of 27-29

I'm bored.
But if he wins a ring like Billups.
what is he now? the contending piece to the Bulls team?

Let's be honest. Carmelo is not even in the "legacy" running. Take the money.

I would have to agree with this. The best he can do now is become a NY icon and bank on getting checking from sentimental Knicks fans 20 years from now to make appearances cutting ribbons at bank and building openings.

MellowYellow

Wrong, what he does now could be the difference between staying just outside the top 50 or moving up to as high as the top 25, with some ecfs or finals appearances and maybe 1 mvp.

So insecure over a guy you were dreaming about months ago until he said no. So now you feel uncomfortable w a thread w actual discussion on Carmelo that you bump a bunch of nothing w a title you like better?

As sad of a bum pity bump as one could make. You never want to assume someone is a loser in real life because who knows, but sometimes you can spot it pretty easy. Chin up though, I'd suggest start w a job. Then work on friends, then even a guy like you will be able to work on the partner part. 1 step at a time, you can do it. Being a loser isn't a life sentence for anyone
