Chance of JR not getting playing time this season also extremely realistic.

did you miss a part of his quote?

like the part where he says

"relative to:

being contacted by extraterrestrial life today
the air molecules in your room spontaneously leaving the room, suffocating you
winning the lottery twice
hitler visiting us from the future
the french declaring war on somebody"

Well, he should feel confident. East is wide open and the Knicks aren't done making moves. Still, Melo is the only consistent performer.

ISH does this every day.

What does the OP think he should say? "We're going 0-82, BABY"? Every athlete thinks they are going to win in whatever sport they play in.

it would be more appropriate for JR to say

"we are going to be much improved and make a lot of noise this year. who knows if everything clicks maybe we can win the East."

that would be more modest and realistic than what he said.

I don't see a problem with what he said :confusedshrug:

No offseason injuries
Melo's back
No more big 3 in MIA
East is weak
Knicks improved greatly at pg and got younger/deeper at every position
No Mike Woodson
Phil is pres

Melo really really shackled the Knicks chances in the future with his bloated contract. He doesn't care. Add to that they didn't reup this free agency, they will be lottery bound for the next five years. If they can get rid of Amare contract they'll be much better off.

Absolutely no reason to get rid of Amare at this point. It doesn't allow any cap room and the Knicks only have money to sign vet mins even if they dump Amare.
Melo's contract doesn't shackle anything, he is not taking a pay raise in year 2 so they can sign people. 2016 tv deal projected at 80mil cap

Oh there's a lot of reason to trade amare. The right 20-30 million dollars worth of contracts could help the team out way more than he can

I meant as that as every player in the East should feel confident in their teams chances, but realistically speaking... I obviously don't think the Knicks will win the East. They are going to plan for 2015. But they are probably done trying to fill out their roster for yet either.

Knicks are currently not the 1st or 2nd best team in their own division, so again, I doubt their going to be any serious threat.

Just because there is no big 3 in MIA (as if Wade, Bosh, and Deng are anything to not take seriously), doesn't mean the East still weak. Infact, it's stronger than it was last season and teams are still filling out their rosters.

Did you actually watch the interview? The way he said it was not pompous, stuck up, or anything like that. He actually said in the interview that he wouldn't be surprised if Jackson traded him based on his play last year. He conducted himself, and made the comment in a very modest way.

The way he talked about the team was actually more contrite than saying "we're gonna make some noise".

MellowYellow

If they traded Amare it would most likely be a salary dump to a team like the sixers, I don't see anyone actually trading assets for Amare, other than longer contracts like Illyasova which would hurt the team's chances of making a big signing in 2015

If anyone saw the interview, you'd see that JR was remarkably honest and humble about the Knicks stinking up the joint last year, yet he remained confident in himself and the team going forward. He said nothing that you wouldn't expect a pro athlete to say.

Omg...athlete says his team has good chance to win conference...Stop the presses...

lakerfreak

As far as the talent and the system goes, on paper it looks pretty good.

I would imagine that Fisher will run the triangle offense, or something very similar. This means that you do not really need a true point guard to run the system. Its a system for equal opportunity offense. Nobody on that team will average more than 6 assists per game most likely. Once that offense is mastered and everyone knows their role (after about two full seasons of practice) this could be a pretty decent and unselfish basketball team.

Lots of ifs though. Do a lot of ifs result in something being "extremely" realistic?

Sad thing is that he was efficient compared to some of the other guards on the team
41 percent 39% from 3

Shump
37 percent 33% from 3

Felton
39 percent 32% from 3

Honestly, should he say no? Skip asks him "How realistic is it that you guys can win the East?"

Any competitive athlete will say it's realistic. You don't say "There's no chance" even though we all know that's the truth. It's demoralizing for your team
