Yes it's a possibility...I think Steven A mentioned it as well.

Steven A Smith said this.

The problem is Dan Gilbert is a multi billionaire who is very involved with the team to the point that there is no way it could happen.

Yes, they were discussing it on ESPN First Take and on some news outlets. It's been stressed that LeBron wants to play a major role in the organization once he retires, possibly ownership.

Gilbert's 52 though, I guess Lebron could try and wait him out and hope his sons don't take over or want to sell? I agree though I don't see Gilbert selling the team unless he has to. Front office job is more likely for Lebron. Dunno how suited he is to that though.

He'll have a prominent role in NBA after he finishes his playing career. He always is looking for a new, potential-filled business venture. I've thought he's wanted to own a team (potentially Cavs) since before he left Cleveland as FA 4 years ago. Just something you can tell he'd like to do. I do think he'll get a crack at a minority ownership stake before MGK does lol.

I wonder if he may look towards coaching? He would probably be a decent coach.

I'm pretty sure there is a private agreement that LeBron will be given a substantial piece of ownership after he retires. For Gilbert it's a win, without LeBron the franchise ain't worth much anyway. Giving LBJ like 15% is still a profit making move.

LeBron may have enough money to be majority owner in about 20 years, which is about what I'd expect Dan for at the very least.. he might have enough. It isn't a given. Who knows what NBA franchises will be going for then.

There is being insanely rich and then there is being Dan Gilbert rich. No athlete has ever gotten to that stratosphere of wealthy.

Don't worry Bran, you can always wait out the Heat owner. Miami is a much nicer place to live anyway.

What sort of sadist would want to own a Cleveland sports franchise?

I dunno it's kind of like something a bond villain might own, extracting profits from the misery of cleveland to hatch some diabolical plan.
