The Lakers invited Kobe and Steve (Nash) to the final pitch meeting to help persuade Dwight to come on board. It sounded like a good idea. Steve sent out an amusing tweet before the meeting:

Riiiight. As much as I hate the current Rockets, if I was Dwight I'd rather be playing with them for a championship rather than wasting my talents on a rebuilding team.

If you were a star player who never won a ring; would you rather play with the dogsh*t the Lakers put out last season in hopes that they one day would be competitive, or an actual team ready to contend?

Kobe never made anyone better. Phil was the one that made Pau a great player. No coincidence that Pau's decline coincides with Phil leaving the Lakers.

As a team the Rockets have a better chance of winning something in the next few years than he would have had with a fading star that thinks he's 25 and not 35 and the rest of the trash that was and now is on that team.

I'd rather be with the Lakers.
Being a star player with the lakers usually means a 30-50 million dollar income every year, I ain't passing that up, especially when I know that somehow someway Lakers always get it done

What happened in 2011? Pau was @zz
he just got old thats it. Phil didnt make him any better than he was in Memphis it was Kobes high low game with him that allowed him to flourish. He needed that alpha first option to take the pressure and defense off him which Kobe provided in spades

Dwight didn't want to be a glorified rebounder for Kobe.

If you're a Laker fan, you should know all about that since Kobe pushed Shaq out. Did you say Kobe didn't care about winning then?

Dwight is a mental midget. He knew he would never be alpha status on a Kobe-led team. He switched teams so he could be the "leader" and it still led to a 1st round exit.

Lakers fans... you only put up with him for one year. I don't think you're really that mad at him... you're mad at something else. You should be glad he's gone and not saying such vile things...

I'm glad he's gone from Orlando. He was a great player and our '09 squad was great to watch but he ended up turning into a cancer as his ego grew and grew yet was unable to recognize that he should not be the focal point on offense 100% of the time. It continued in LA... it seems to have calmed a bit now though but I don't keep up with the Rockets. Is that the case?

I'd hate to see how you guys would react if he were there for like 8 years lol.

Also... how can you all say he's a choker, a crybaby, choker with no post moves, etc... and then continue the "LA steals star players from Orlando" running joke? By your own comments surrounding Dwight... Essentially, you've only ever taken one good player from us... Shaq. I'd hardly constitute that as a trend. Also I know this will rustle your jimmies even though that wasn't my intention... a lot of you consciously decide to get upset. Have fun ripping me while I leave for the rest of the day.

I guess they were just mad at the fact that he had such a big ego, and he decided to utilize it by saying "I'm going to Houston to win on my own"

When it's sort of close to the same as staying with the Magic. Although it is fair for him to have the Rockets over the Magic as an organization for reasons we don't know.

I guess the Lakers were unsure as to how having a big ego for success, would equate to organizations having patient with him instead of the other way around.

We also took Ariza from you dawg. ORL is the LAL farm team. We coming for Vucevic next XD

dawg, myself and many other Laker fans didnt want this choke artist in purple and gold. We made our judgement on him based on his mentally weak 2009 performance. If anything he has gotten much worse since 2009. Atleast you got to witness The Coward in his prime years.

I am glad this scrub is gone, and I enjoy mocking this mentally weak scrub for saying shit like "I want to be on a contender" and then going to Houston to team with 6th Man of the Year James Harden as the best player:roll:

And it's even funnier now that Houston blew up after yet another first round exit and The Coward is stuck there to lead his team to first round exits for the rest of his career XD

Phil understands that scandal and sensationalism sells. So he twist his words into notions that seem goosipy so people will want to read his books. No different than rag mags.

I thought this was common knowledge.

Kobe is a prickly pear, he wants to win, he has no sense of reality and the most out of you. It's why he didn't respect Shaq at the end. He works harder and expects you to do the same. Dwight likes the simple bear necessities, he'd rather laugh than scowl, Kobe scowls when he laughs. So Dwight wanted to play in run and gun Houston with equally lax James Harden.

Howard could be great, for a few years, seemingly on accident now, he was one of the best five players in the NBA, now he's a guy we begrudgingly admit is the best center but can't wait to find a replacement for.

I love Kobe the player, but Kobe the person gets in the way a lot. He needed to be diplomatic and understand that in the long run he could use Howard to serve purpose. He's not getting better player than D12 to come there and play second to an ego bigger than the Staples Center.
