Gasol can't step it up without Kobe. He was too soft. He needed a leader to push him around.

the only reason gasol considered staying with LA is because of Kobe. gasol was fed up with mgmt/coaching for the way they treated him. but gasol sees kobe as a brother. thats a fact.

Anyone who everyone likes playing with is not good.Larry Hughes hated playing with lebron.Kevin Martin hated play with durant or westbrook not sure which one but he hated playing with one of them.Lin + Landry Fields hated playing with Melo while jr and kenyon martin love playing with him.Different strokes for different folks i would love playing with any of them..I actually would hate playing in a system like the spurs where you have to be a robot and sit in the corner all game but hey it wins so....

Playing with him is fun. He takes care of you on the court and carries you to the win. But he also lets you play your game if you are playing good and give you chances to make shots too. But if you have an off night he wont pass it to you though.

I only played with him for a season but it was cool.1st 20 games i use to just stand in the corner frustrated but kobe wants you to create your own shot he always would yell @ me "i never claimed to be a point guard".Once i figured out that i would have to create my own shot i didn't mind it as much playing with him.

Its pretty common knowledge Kobe is one of the most driven people ever to play the game. He's obsessive about it and a strong personality.

Some players who can meet that challenge and feed off that kind of leadership will thrive off of it. Players like Odom and Gasol definitely benefited from being challenged and covered by the attention Kobe draws from the media and opposing teams.

Other players who do not have that kind of personality will be turned off by playing with someone so demanding and driven.

I dont there's much mystery to it at all. People have different personalities, just like different bosses inspire different kinds of employees at the office, etc.

As for the answer... anyone ever played pickup with someone that was ridiculously talented and took all the shots? And your team won a lot more than it lost?

Now pretend winning means more. And losing means more.

In short.. my answer is... when Kobe wins you a game, it's awesome. When Kobe loses you a game, it really sucks. Kobe wins more than he loses, so it's more awesome than it is sucky.
