View Full Version : Why is Jeremy Lin considered a joke on ISH?

I see all these posts bashing him and acting like he's not a MAJOR acquisition for the Lakers.
The fact is every year he has improved statistically in virtually every category, all while being mismanaged on the worst franchise for PG's in the league. The one time he was given the green light to play his game, he had a triple double in under 30 minutes.
He has All Star potential given the opportunity to be the playmaker on a team, and unlike Melo/Harden, Kobe is the ultimate competitor who will only help Lin grow.
They said he couldn't go left? He fixed it.
They said he was a bad defender? He fixed it. Funny how his defense was praised during Linsanity but then somehow the narrative became he couldn't play D and Bev could. :oldlol:
They said he couldn't shoot the 3? He fixed it.
The kid plays team basketball and consistently makes his teammates better no matter on what team he's on. He also one of the quickest first steps in the league, and was 2nd to only LeBron in driving to the basket. Yes it's true.
He will be an All Star this year, and lead the Lakers to the playoffs. It shall be glorious.

The Lakers should have traded for Lin and Asik and gotten that first round pick that New Orleans got. That would have been a 16.6 million cap hit for two starters (and paying the extra money isn't a big deal for the Lakers).
Could have had Asik, Randle, Hill and Davis at the bigs.

When you're a PG on the Rockets there is no such thing as consistent playing time. Just ask Dragic and Lowry.

I've never bashed Lin. I think he's a pretty good player and wouldn't have minded if the Pacers tried to get him...

lin is an average pg, but can be a solid one in the right setting. HOU was a difficult team for him to play on because having harden there took away from Lin running the offense.
but hes a more than capable PG that tries hard on D. he has decent size, good pocket passes and can get to the rim. his name is sullied to a lot of people because of linsanity. but to me, its because those people have weak mentalities

Decent PG with the potential to have monster nights. Not too bad a pick up if your main PG is likely to miss a ton of games due to injury.
And as to ASG? Given he is in a HUGE market now, if he has a solid first half season, he will have a shot on votes.

Lin is a good player with a high ceiling. The problem is he has some glaring flaws that could be deal breakers in the NBA.
First of all...he's playing the most stacked position in the NBA. Seems like every PG in the league is a star these days.
Second of all...he has the weakest handles of any PG I can think of and that's just not gonna cut it.
That being said, he has some advantages:
- Quickness and speed (best in the league) and can blow by anyone at will.
- Size and strength...at 6'3" and 200lbs he was the #1 defending PG against opposing PG's trying to take it to the hole on him.
- No fear on the fast break. This guy pushes the ball like I've never seen before...even harder than John Wall, imo. He has no problem gutting right through the middle of the defense on a FB.
- And heart. He's got plenty of it. Yeah, he had some huge chokes in the playoffs but he came back, every single time, with a huge game. That right there tells me this dude has major major heart. Anyone else in his position would have crawled into a hole and buried himself in it.

Lin is what he is. Probably best as a 6th man. Slightly better version of Brandon Jennings or someone like that. Probably right there with a guy like Teague. Pretty bad defense. Can be your 4th quarter guy.

I honestly have no idea where Lin gets his bad defense reputation from. I've seen every single one of his games since Linsanity hit and both his years with Houston.
I think he's a very good defender. No PG can really drive on him because he's fast enough to keep up and has height and length to block the shot. He has very good lateral quickness...he's excellent at closing out AND stopping the drive (as well as anyone else in the league). He's a VERY willing help defender, but sometimes too willing.
There was a string of games last year when he kept guys like Parker, Conley, Holliday to miserable shooting percentages and scoring outputs. I think Parker only had 6pts or something.

ISH actually fell in love with Jeremy Lin during Linsanity. This thread brought lots of good content.

But now people realize he's just a quality NBA player, and not a guy who'll put up 28/9/6 with 9 turnovers or whatever he did during that stretch.
No one actually thinks he's a scrub, which was what 100% of critics thought prior to Feb 2012.

I got a little caught up in the hype during Linsanity. I was so shocked when New York played at Miami during Linsanity. The Heat made Lin look like a total scrub, which sadly, isn't too far from the truth. I've watched Lin in many other games after, and to be honest, he's just not that good.

The only time LOF's became an annoyance for certain people was when he was on the Rox and that was because they completely mismanaged his skillset.

And all of it is negative. At least Lin is getting some positive posts like he should. He's ok but not that good so go figure the type of responses you would get. A gay guy's swaying hovering hand would sum it up.

Yeah I mean he's essentially an average to below average starting PG. But it seems like people enjoy going out of their way to hate on him in a way they never would if he were black.

The Lin hype is exacerbated by the NBA’s expansion in China - a huge Chinese market will eat Lin’s story up (already has actually), driving profits from everything from jersey sales to video games. *shrugs*

Going up to some park full of black dudes thinking they can ball. His skinny ass showing up and them thinking he can't play. Then balling them up making them look like scrubs and walking off with them wondering wtf just happened.

I think from being so close to gettin cut to Linsanity to where he is right now, he's doing all right. How can you hate on his story? He belongs in the nba. Not sure why some hate on him. Never thought he'd be a star but the dude doesn't deserve the hate. In fact he should be praised for making the most out of what he's been given (skills and situation).

Interesting that Euroleague used to defend Yao as if his life depended on it, and now Lin...
I wonder, what are the odds that our resident European expert is actually an Asian American from Arkansas with virtually no connection to the old continent whatsoever, less still to Greece?

physical tools are highly important obviously, however theres one thing that is of paramount importance and that is mentality. Lin is a winner, he is a well rounded mentally stable and highly intelligent individual. He is going to make it work and he is going to contribute a lot to any team that he goes too, he is too smart not to make the most of his situation.
Its just obvious to me that Lin is going to cause damage in the years to come and all the haters will be eating their words. People need to recognize heart and a good attitude as traits as important as ones wingspan/vertical etc. What does Tony Parker have over Lin in terms of potential? Nothing. Lin is going to develop and I know in a few years time hes going to be the rock for an nba team. Its why losers like Dwight and Harden will never amount to anything, because they are both low iq egomaniacs that don'have the drive. Basically dumb kunts and dumb kunts have no place in this league....... :( if only that was true

his PER is right around 14-15
for how good of a PG people have touted him as.
his assist number per game high was right around 6, coming off a 4 assist per game season last season.
he doesn't score enough on his own to warrant turning his teammates into spot up shooters.
he can shoot the ball, but nothing particular about his game is a threat to the opposing team.
I didn't hear people claiming Calderon to be some PG prodigy, besides the Raptors fan who valued him.
would people even consider Jeremy Lin as an All Star even if he puts up 20/3/7 on a lottery team. Because plenty of players have done so before with a better projected team record.

Be good for Lin to play at Lakers, he's excited to be leaving Houston I think. Hopefully Nash will help him out with PG knowledge and experience as there was non existent at Houston....
Timed it right also, as Kobe will have no doubt mellowed out now what with his Achilles and knee injury.

He has a lot of stans.
Asians take it personal when he gets dissed.
Linsanity was over the top.
He is a 15-30 PG in the NBA but might be a top 5 most recognizable (top 3 if you are dealing with China).
You get overhyped, you deal with shit.

Lin is not a "pretty good player". He is an okay bench player. He showed shades of something special in NY with no scouting report on him and players truly undervaluing him and outright ignoring him on defense. However, when players take their assignments semi seriously in guarding him he can't do much about it. He is not a game changer, he is not great, but he is not Smush Parker either.
He is 36th out of 70 point guards in PER. That is almost exactly middle of the pack.
