People of that caliber are rare.

Bird's the coach of the Pacers. Pacer's Reggie Miller just hit a clutch 3 to lead the bulls.

That mentality is so hard to keep.

Sometimes when great players make those last second shots in game 2s or 3s to win the game and make them. I wish they would celebrate. I wish sometimes they'd walk off the court looking alpha as hell ready for the next game already.

I'm convinced that mentality is something innate. Mental fortitude can be learned through trials and tribulations, i.e Lebron (he's really gotten much better).

But the insane focus and ferocious competitive drive? They're competitors amongst competitors (if you're in the NBA, you're competitive). That is probably a mental problem lol. A pathological need to win.

Jerry West has said that Russell, himself, magic, bird and MJ were cut from the same cloth. People who would die to win.

Perhaps he's grown as a player because he knows how hard it is to win now. Different story 5 years ago...

And 99% of the league would be celebrating their asses off after making it

For sure, but I don't think celebrating after a game winner makes you not "mentally strong". Jordan did it all the time

Lol yeah Durant for like the past 3 years has never even cracked a smile on his game winners.

He has that mentality too he just doesn't express it because he likes maintaining the good guy image.

People like LeBron and Dwight you can see them out there being clowns and shit. Pounding their chest after a game winner, dancing on the sidelines while the game is still going and shit. Dancing on the court while dribbling the clock down.

Actually that was all LeBron but Dwight is a clown too.

Pretty much all the LeBron haters are obsessed with him to the point where it's scary. kenneth/statuatory/godbe/fudge are all rocking LeBron avs, russwest posts like 10 lebron threads a day, every bigboss thread ever has been about 2/5, etc.

Really goes to show just how much LeBron runs this league. These haters make pauk look unloyal

Tracey was every bit as good as Kobe for time when he played in Orlando. TMac of Orlando replacing Kobe on that team with Prime Shaq and Phil and all those great role players....he's winning a ring no question about it.

go back and watch the 2012 playoffs lol. He hit like 3 game winners in those playoffs alone and his expression was always cold as hell.

Or that double OT 8 point comeback in like 50 seconds where Durant, down 2, drilled a 3 for the win. Walked off with his "lets get the **** outta here" face

there's always uncertainty

There were a couple where he did that.

But still.. who cares? Jordan celebrated his game winners all the time... Kobe too. Do we consider them to be "mentally weak"?
