View Full Version : You should never pick a player below 6'4 as a top 5 pick...

Guys this small are just not impactful in a game where height and length is such a major factor to success.
Case in point: Derrick Rose, Kyrie Irving...they were top picks and they have not really led their teams to anywhere. Cp3 too, you can see that his size limits him on defense and he always have problems against bigger guards. Iverson was one of the great small players, but he was an enigma (You really had to built a team around him), he also can't overcome a kobe/shaq combo in the finals.

If only you knew how many players iverson impacted their game/lifes it would be mind boggling (probably 98% of the league including white players today)He revolutionized the game!

I love iverson but he has never won a ring. :confusedshrug:
Yes, on the excitement scale he is 10/10, but his playing style limits his teammates. You can make a point that he never really had great teammates and he could have fared better and won something with better players, but all these are hypothetical scenarios and we will never get to know.

If iverson went in a time machine you wouldnt want him on your team?If Westbrook was on the trading block you wouldnt want your team to go after him?

Westbrook is not a liability on the defensive end and can even cover SGs and SFs. He guarded Tony Allen plenty when he was out muscling Durant on the offensive glass and was even on Kawhi for large stretches.

Isiah says hi.
Great players win championships when they land on teams with other great players. That's all that matters about it.

top 10 players don't come in every draft if you hadn't noticed.
Wade could have easily been the shortest top 10 player had it not been for injury.

Look at the roster he dragged all the way to the 2001 Finals:

That's almost Orlando-era T-Mac bad and he never made it out of the first round.

People always love to point to the Sixers success in 2001 to somehow justify Iverson's career, but the East was as weak as its ever been that year. You had to beat the Pacers (41 win team), Raptors (47 wins) and Bucks (52 wins) to get to the Finals, and even so, Mutombo was the MVP of the ECFs vs Milwaukee. Once they faced a real team from the superior Western Conference, they lost in a backdoor sweep. The Eastern Conference only had two other teams that won 50 games. Whatever modest success the Sixers enjoyed during the Iverson era was mainly due to Larry Brown's mastermind defensive strategy, which made them a top 5 defensive team for a good 3-4 years and the #1 ranked defensive team after they acquired Mutombo in February. There is reason that it all fell apart and the team went to hell after Brown left.

There is like 3-4 exceptions, and people act as if OP doesnt have a point.
If I was a GM i would follow OP's thinking.

Great players win championships when they land on teams with other great players. That's all that matters about it.great quote. The original Isaiah Thomas won 2 rings. Iverson with more talent on his team would have won a ring. Nash could have been top 5 in some drafts and did well. Westbrook, Stockton all are worthy of top five picks. Wade as well
