View Full Version : How Good Would Len Bias Have Been?

He was so physically gifted. I mean I've read many articles about him that have said he was amazingly athletic, had a great stature, and as a 6'8 guy he could actually make plays really well. In college, Bias was considered one of the most dynamic players in the nation. Sometimes I always wonder how many more rings the Celtics could've won if Bias had never died.

So it leaves me to begs the question... If Len Bias hadn't tragically passed away, just how good would he have been?

Somewhere between peak Lebron and Scottie Pippen.

Horace Grant said he was more athletic than Jordan. Was about 6'8 built like a Greek Statue. He could do left or right hand hooks around the basket. He could already shoot three's well and his jump shot was already silky smooth and consistent. Had a very good handle and could do reverse layups like Jordan. Was as super agile as well. One of the few players that could jump so high that you could see his will propel him closer to the basket. Had a real competitive fire.

Thinner version of Perkins with a worse shot and expensive coke habit.

Also, after watching Without Bias, I have to say that his mother is a cold-hearted ****.

An unselfish, non-statpadding Michael Jordan.

Not true, his mother became a anti-drug lecturer. You can't say how someone is on something that happened nearly 20 years ago, they are a different person now. Both his parents became advocates after Len died from the overdoes, then their younger son Jay died from a gunshot.

Imo, he could've been a legit superstar and even all-time great...
Maybe even also challeging MJ for best in the league, in the 90's.

Dude was just an athletic freak, 6'8 w/o shoes and really long, built like stone with a great NBA-ready body/physique already BEFORE the pros, could jump out of the gym, very strong, very fast/quick... Then adding to that, you can see that he had some really good fundamentals, smooth jumper that was virtually impossible to block because he jumped high af and released at his peak, had range, shot 86% from the FT in his last college year, finished really well, had good soft-touch around the rim, showed nice footwork and postgame, could rebound, knew how handle the ball, played D, plus he was relentless, hustled a lot, unselfish (needed to work on his passing though), and everyone said he had a great work ethic.

Just go watch him play, on yt or something, also read all the stuff about him, and see the documentaries and whanot... Imho, easy to tell that he would've been something.

Red/Celtics were really high on him, he was already a baller and with great potential... Could've given Bird/McHale a very needed rest since 1987 when they had no legit bench and be already a force on that team, Larry could've extended his career/prime (he said he would've retired after 1988 if Bias got drafted but we can't tell), and McHale maybe never breaks his foot or at least wouldn't go on playing major minutes with it. Would've been exciting to see what Len (and the Celtics) would do playing alongside Bird, McHale, Parish, DJ and Ainge.

Celtics probably even would've won more ring(s) with that 80's core, and at least wouldn't suck so bad further into the 90's.

But those are just what-ifs, we'll never know...
