You're talking about guys that are in the top percentile of athletes.
Their explosiveness >>>>>>>>> your explosiveness.
Their fast twitch muscle fibers >>>>>>>>>> your fast twitch muscle fibers.
and so on...
They're just that much better.

I'm average height and got posterized earlier this year. Kid dunked on me while i tried taking a charge in a pickup game. Embarrassing :facepalm

Who takes a charge in pickup? I hope he stepped on your face afterwards.

Lol no. I actually ended up hitting a game winner on him. And I usually do a fake charge just to confuse the person drive and then jump to try to block them. Didn't know the kid could dunk hard. Should have gotten the hint when I saw him bench 350 and had ridiculous hops while warming up at 6'4''.

I know. I can do a 360 pretty easy. But how in the world do these NBA players do a 360 between the leg is beyond me.

Between the legs is insane. Same with a windmill god damn either you practice them every day or ya just can't do them need a jumping ability
Look at that Zach lavine there's nothing too this dude but how in the hell is he so bouncy and strong in the legs???

Oh really because I actually have all of my genetic information here and I have the same genotype that nearly all world class sprinters and athletes have...

This is like asking why does Garry Kasparov beat super computers in chess when I can't even beat the basic windows chess AI on easy mode, even though I try real hard. The answer should be quite obvious. :oldlol:

Seriously!!!?? They dunkin all the timeNot to be super obvious but if you need an opening to dunk, then I say work to get an opening to dunk. Working on one's speed and defense can often yield poke-aways which can lead to breakaways, and if you're a one-foot dunker it'll be all about just rising and finishing in the open floor at that point. The sprint and defense training also serve as stamina boosters and elevation aides; it all works hand in hand.
But in terms of the ease with which NBA and college players can flush, many of them are athletic freaks while others are just flat out genetic freaks. Even being 6'5'' with a 6'7'' or 6'8''-ish wingspan is freaky in comparison to the vast majority of the population. Subsequently, dunking becomes more a matter of just plopping the ball in the hoop at that point.

This. It really is that simple. Even the white dudes getting up.

Most NBA players are probably a lot taller than you for one. So that doesn't hurt.
Dunking on a 10 foot rim when you're 6'7 or even 6'4 really isn't that big of a deal.

Well height is good and ups, but you need a mentality to be a dunker. There aren't as many as you think. And if there is a margin for error... like say non.big man and without elite athleticism, its hard. So many dudes in the nba can prolly dunk but if you can't effortlessly dunk from a standstill, you're not gonna be dunking in game. You gotta dribble, get by someone as well as deal with help d. Some people are just fearless tho. I could jump high but I was always afraid of landing even on a lowered hoop.
But yeah, its mentality assuming you aren't just a god athlete. And practice taking off in game situations. Id say you prolly lose 3 inches at least on a game take off.

-SmakI agree with the mentality. Though, some NBA players are so tall and lanky I think they can have a passive mentality and still get a fair share of dunks (JaVale McGee). But yeah, I also believe there's some who don't dunk as much as they could or should.
Respectfully, I do not agree with your portion about losing three inches of vertical on in-game takeoffs. In fact, on the majority of occasions, I actually felt like I was jumping higher in games and often dunking harder than I normally would in practice or shootarounds. Adrenaline and high-level exertion did a lot for me. I was a "the only way out is through" type of player, so I tried to attack head on with everything I had, particularly when sprinting into the open floor, and that oftentimes eclipsed my exertion in non-game situations.
That said, the above did not necessarily hold true if I were attempting to finish at the conclusion of an end-to-end-to-end-to-end sprinting sequence. If I'm at the point of exhaustion, my vert was obviously taking a hit.
