It was the passing of the torch. The Bulls would beat the Jazz for their final championship of that era, and then the Duncan era began the next season in 1999

Yes he is. He somehow manages to own Bran's soul in the Playoffs.

Glad you have an appreciation for this man:

As NBA ready a rookie as the league has ever seen.

Top 5 MVP candidate his first season. A championship and finals MVP his second. :applause:

Is this the first time he played Jordan? I remember Duncan saying he airballed his first shot by like 3 feet because he was so nervous.

I'm pretty sure this was Duncan's 3rd/4th NBA game, so it must have been.

Haven't heard that one before though.

Don't see the significance of this vid. Might as well show Anthony Bennett's first game vs LeBron while we're at it.

There aren't loads of 98/99 Duncan games around. It's different with new players because you can watch anything 5 minutes after it happens.

To be fair (and yes, this is the biggest MJ fan here saying this), Tim did get MJ back on the other end of the floor.

But that MJ block was still epic. He did the same to Shaq when Shaq took his first shot vs the Bulls.

MJ had another epic block on Duncan but I haven't found a footage of that yet

It was the passing of the torch. That was last season the Bulls won the championship.

THe next year the Duncan era started when he won his first championship.

He did? Was it from that another game, perhaps their second match in Chicago later that season?

In a game against Michael Jordan's championship Chicago Bulls, Tim and David fought the champion team every step of the way, forcing not one but two overtime periods before eventually losing by just four points. Tim matched Bulls' top-notch defender Dennis Rodman rebound for rebound for a total of twenty-two and when he wasn't there, David Robinson was. "We had to shoot jump shots," Jordan said after the game, explaining the challenge he and his teammates had faced. "And believe me, I tried to get to the basket. But with those Twin Towers sitting in the middle, it was tough."

If I remember correctly it was played in Alamodome.
Duncan went for a fade away and Jordan blocked it from behind

The top 5 players in MVP voting in 1998 were Malone, Jordan, Payton, Duncan and Shaq

Not only that but he was all Nba 1st team that year. The top 5 in MVP votes that year were the same as the first team all nba.

He won rookie of the month all 6 months

He won rookie of the year

And he was and all star. Make no doubt about it, Duncan was one of the most dominant players in the league from his first season

That's just idiotic then. Robinson averaged more points on less shots than Duncan, he had the lowest drating on the team, he had the highest per on the team (27.8 to Duncans 22.6), AND most importantly: he got the most attention from the defense. Duncan played about 4.5 mpg more as Robinson was coming off his injury, but he wasn't even a better rebounder either...per 36 Robinsons stats are better in every way except FG% and it doesn't take a genius to realize Duncans fg% is so high because of the former MVP, all star he was playing with. He never shot close to that in his prime years when he was the man, period.

That's nice and all.. But it has nothing to do with the original post I was responding to. The poster said that Duncan was top 5 in MVP voting his rookie year, you said he wasn't , so I showed you that he was both top 5 in voting and first team all nba.

I have no real interest in debating who was better in his rookie year, I was just correcting your statement.

When he said that I took it as his opinion, not an actual fact of the MVP voting that year.
