View Full Version : Who is better as a third option: Serge Ibaka or Kevin Love?

Points/rebounds/blocks

Serge Ibaka stats per 36: (As a third option)
17/10/3 on 54/38/78 shooting.

Kevin Love stats per 36: (As a first option)
26/12/0.5 on 46/38/82 shooting.

You also have to account cap value in here as well. Serge Ibaka's contract averages 12M a year while Kevin Love will demand either the max or something very close to it. Ibaka also provides DPOY level defense while Kevin Love is a poor man and help defender.

Who would you want as the 3rd option for your team, if your two main stars were a PG and SF like the case is in OKC and CLE?

Kevin Love can win games by himself. I'll take him.

Love is better but not good enough to make up for having no bench

James Harden can win games by himself as well, but would you prefer him as a 3rd option over Kawhi Leonard?

Almost took the Spurs to 7 games even with Ibaka missing 2 games and being banged up in the others

When has a player ever gotten credit for almost taking a team to seven games?

What the hell. :oldlol:

upon initial examination this is a troll thread, but if we look a little more closely there is some validity here.

obviously Love>>>Ibaka, but if you think about it there are a lot of extenuating factors that play Ibaka's way. Like how well Oklahoma played upon his return, how much of a menace he is on the interior, how Love, despite monster numbers has never sniffed the playoffs (great players win chips, but really good players should make the playoffs), also the chasm between the two on defense.

As a third option Ibaka may be better. If you have a Durant and a Westbrook, you need some post defense more than you need another 25ppg scorer. Love is clearly a much more valuable player though overall.

1. Kevin Love is better than Ibaka, even in a 3rd option role

2. Kevin Love is better than Kyrie Irving and would be the second best player on the Cavs

I'd slow your roll on number two. Kyrie will be able to do more when things tighten up. Kevin Love hasn't played a meaningful game on US soil since 2008.

People seem to forget this reality.

Kevin Love, not close.

Remember when he wasn't needed to do all his team's scoring? He was averaging 15 rebounds per game, leading the league by far, and leading the league by FARRRRRR in offensive rebounding.

You kidding me?

When's the last "meaningful" game Kyrie has played?? Kevin Love is a top 10ish player in this league...

There's not one single thing Kyrie is better at than Love, and that includes passing.

Well, maybe dribbling, but that's not really important for a PF.

Kyrie runs faster.

That's literally it. Love is a better ballhandler even.

Serge Ibaka is not a capable 3rd option he's a spoon feed can't make a semi hard shot overrated role player. Dude could not score on Matt Bonnar.

Cleveland fans are fcuking weird. I actually listened to a podcast of an ESPN radio show from Cleveland because I wanted to hear the reactions, but what I heard.....

All the phone calls were about how the Cavs need to keep wiggins because when LeBron is done, Wiggins will be the future. Like, what the hell is wrong with you Cleveland people. Stop worrying about the future. Your time is now. Win now.

they probably think it's Lebron's job to bring them a ring, while it's the Cavs fans job to be sure the future is intact.

as for the interest of the two conflicting with one another?

I guess we are right back to "what are we witnessing"

Good post. At first I was like :biggums: K Love no question... but it is a question. Ibaka is a prolific shot blocker and just scary on defense at times. He's developed a midrange shot and can throw it down too. And Love is mediocre at best on D.

But at the end of the day, K Love is a better player. Better as a first, second, or third option compared to Ibaka. I don't think people realize how good he is going to look next to Kyrie and LeBron if he goes.

Last year the defense would completely focus on Love every game, and the guy was still hitting 3s consistently, dropping 25+ppg, and a monster rebounder. He averaged 26/12 (again... as the focal point of the defense), he would abuse Ibaka on the boards. Not to mention he can average over 4ast a game.

Ibaka can be really good defensively but if they're both feelin it, there's no contest. Love can break open a game by himself. We're talking about a guy who has dropped 40, 45, 50 points in a game. Dude gets 30-20s. Dude's dropped a 30-30 before.

And if Love is playing next to Bron and Kyrie? The 3 point shooting is about to be insane.

Depends on the team.. If you already got a superstar or scorer I want Ibaka.

If I got a defensive minded team with a so-so scorer, then Love

clearly Ibaka because he brings defense

this ....

I actually think we haven't seen Love's peak yet..
If he goes to a contender , he could be a big shot shooter.
