Figured I'd start a thread for general video game collecting. Recently I bought a Gamecube and have been tracking down as many games as I could locally. Have a solid list of games so far, probably gonna need to start ordering stuff online for the harder to find games though.
List of games:
-Metroid Prime
-Starfox Adventure
-The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
-Tales of Symphonia
-Super Smash Bros. Melee
-Paper Mario The Thousand-year Door
-Mario Party 7
-Mario Kart Double Dash
-Crazy Taxi
-Viewtiful Joe 1&2
-Super Mario Sunshine
-Timesplitters
-Tony Hawk Underground 1&2
-Need for speed underground
-Gun
Never actually owned a Gamecube before, so this will actually keep me pretty busy for a while. Also any recommendations would be appreciated.

cutomrobo for gamecube is a must get, IMO
You really need Luigi's Mansion. Great great game. Mario Party 4 was my favorite gamecube version of that too, so I'd recommend that. Pikmin was fantastic.
Others I've heard are great: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, and Killer 7.
People shit on the gamecube a lot, but it put out a lot of my favorite Nintendo games.

I'd love to have it, way too expensive though. You see how much it goes for these days?

I was like 10 at the time, but I loved Sega Soccer Slam, SSX, and Super Monkey Ball. Those games, Smash Bros, and Mario Party were the only games I played even though I had 20+ titles.
Disappointing console, imo. PS2 and Game Boy pretty much stole all my video gaming time and I was a Nintendo fanboy up until that generation. Preferred the 64 (still my favorite) over Saturn and PS. SNES over Genesis. NES... And then the Gamecube came along and ruined it for me.
Timesplitters doe. Did that game come with a gun controller? Nevermind, I was thinking Time Crisis.

Could anyone help me pick out what some of these games are? Guy is selling this along with a NES on Kajiji, just trying to figure out if it's worth it.

He want's $150 for everything, which is probably not a bad deal. I'm just trying to figure out if there's anything else decent in that stack, I can make out a few of them:
-Ice Hockey
-Punch out
-Darkman
-Mickey mousecapade
-tag team wrestling
-Winter games
-sesame street countdown
-Wrestlemania
-kung fu
Tecmo Super Bowl
Tecmo baseball
Mike Tyson punch out
I think it's worth it. Shit i wish I could buy that.

Did you buy it?
I ended up passing on it. Really tempted, I could probably end up spending way too much money if I go for everything I see though. For now I'll probably just focus on Gamecube.
Did get Luigi's mansion and Lost kingdom for gamecube.

I have since added Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin to the collection, and also picked up a ps2 and dreamcast. Along with my original xbox, I now have all the 6th gen consoles. Dreamcast games seem to be a bit tougher to come by though, probably have to order stuff online in order to get any of the decent titles.
I also started this thread with the hopes that others would post about their own collections. If anyone else has something to post please share.

I was beginning a small collection of snes games, but any snes game worth a damn is anywhere between $20-$200. Thinking of switching to the n64.

I have an NES and about 20 games. I've considered starting a SNES collection, because SNES is really the pinnacle of 2D gaming... but like the poster said above me, SNES games aren't cheap.
I was looking at SNES systems with box and they run around $250 in good condition. Some of the boxed games run $100-$200 as well.

So I just picked up a snes with a bunch of games. The guy didn't list the games in the ad, just had a blurry photo. Based on what I could see I offered $140 and he took it. Once I picked the games I found one of the games I couldn't make out was Chrono Trigger. Label is worn, but still an awesome find.
The other games that came with it were:
-Donkey Kong Country
-Final Fantasy 3
-Super Mario Allstars
-Breath of Fire 2
-The Lion King
-Street Fighter 2
-Mario Paint with the mouse
-Power Rangers
-Final Fight
-few random sports games.

I may or may not have dropped a grand on a mint SNES and around 35 mint/near mint SNES games.

do you live in Huntington beach? if so, theres this book store at the westminster mall that sells used snes games for 5 bucks or so each. not necessarily mint, but they all seem to work. at least, the ones i picked up a little while back. same with 64 games.

I do live in Huntington. I'm only looking for mint/near mint, complete in box (CIB) SNES games though. I've looked around for local shops that carry collector level stuff but they don't seem to exist. If found a place called VideoGameX off Gothard and Warner, but they only had one collectible SNES game (which I bought). Seems like Ebay is the way to go these days.

I will once I get them displayed. I've only received about 6 games so far, but most are coming this week. I'm also trying to decide how to display them. I bought 50 of these plastic cover thingies for the games, and I think I'm going to build an elevated shelf to display them. Not sure how I plan on storing/displaying the SNES, because I'd like to be able to play it from time to time, but I want to keep it clean too.

Do you buy doubles of each game so you have a copy to play or is this just for display.

What I decided to do was buy a handheld SNES called the Supaboy. I can use it play my games mobile or I can plug into my TV and use it like a console. Pretty cool device actually. That way I can keep my collectible SNES boxed.

I've expanded my SNES collection to magazines. So far I've purchased Nintendo Power #'s 32-55 (1992/93 complete) in very good condition. I plan on getting every Nintendo Power from #28 to #90, which pretty much covers the entire life of the SNES.

Heard of this sight recently that modifies old consoles and handhelds. Pricey, but I kinda want some of them.

I have EGM #1 as well as a bunch of other late 80s early 90s gaming mags. I have some Nintendo Power issues too. They're all just collecting dust in a box.

It's strange. Over the past few days almost every popular, complete SNES game has disappeared from Ebay, and the prices of those remaining have skyrocketed. I'm not sure if someone is trying to corner the market or what, but it's placed a hold on my purchasing for awhile.

That's cool. I now have Nintendo Power complete years 1992, 1993, 1995, and 1996. I just need to get 1994 and a few misc from 1991 and 1997.

I've been buying a lot of games this year.. earlier this year I finally completed my USA official release Turbo Grafx 16/Turbo CD/Turbo Duo set.. all 94 hucards and 44 CD/SCD games... took me 24 years to do!
I'm getting close to completing my Sega Master System set now..
I've also been buying ALOT of Dreamcast games, a lot of them are really cheap now.. I'm not going for a full set, but right now, I'm at just over 200 games..
with NES, I've been buying random cheap games here and there..

this is an old thread but do those hyperkins play the actual cartridge or load the rom that's already on the device like some of those consoles do? Wish I could collect games but don't have the space, have a small collection for my master system and n64 but that's about it.
I've got one of these for playing older roms, handles up to dreamcast well
http://www.jxdofficial.com/jxd-s7800b-7-inch-quad-core-game-console.html
I collect pinball machines though but the space and price means it's always a rotating line up of having to sell one to bring in another which sucks.

Have you heard of a raspberry pi? I have a raspberry pi 2 loaded with pretty much every Sega, snes, Sony PlayStation 1 and gba game. Also n64 but they're still working out the bugs.
It's about the size of a wallet and can be used with xbox controllers. Works great, does take a bit of tweaking and technical knowledge to work out though.
