View Full Version : Lets end this debate ONCE AND FOR ALL: Who's to blame for the 2011 Finals loss.

Wade or Lebron??
I say Wade is to blame for being selfish.
I'm about to quote a few VERY CONVINCING and intelligent posts:
the thought of wade winning FMVP.....made me actually HAPPY lebron didnt win a championship this year............
seriously......... the thought of that wade dude who was 2nd fiddle to lebron all year.... including the playoffs... choking so ridicilously bad in the chicago series especially...... all of the sudden winning the FMVP and being the sole reason to the lack of lebrons (and entire heat) offensive rythm in the Finals just because he wanted to put on a show.... because he decided its "HIS TEAM AND SHOULD LEAD" all of the freakin sudden....... and still get a ring that way.......... that thought is unbarable............
yup...Wade expected Lebron to be 2nd fiddle because Miami was his team. as great as they seemed to look as 1a-1b, it was a complete disconnect that first year. we had countless threads here acknowledging how much of a waste one player standing aside to give each other their turn looked atrocious. i'm sure we can bump the hundreds of "Robin to Batman" threads that I'm sure some of the naysayers here are in, as well
now they wanna say it was a GREAT tactic to prop Wade seeing Lebron has left. there can NEVER be 2 leaders on the floor, one always has to be clearly in front of the other and that had to be Lebron from the jump. Wade didn't want to relinquish the role initially, and Lebron didn't want to step on his toes either. it cost them the 1st title. that's not hard to see. :confusedshrug:
as for the boston series...ok, both were great. but exactly how rare was that? how often has Wade been consistently good for a series to continue this notion? it's few and far between, even when the attention was primarily on James, and then Wade having the easier path to thrive. the REAL winning and dominance didn't come through until Lebron was placed at the front and Wade behind him...it's proven, 2 titles and a 27-game win streak under it. what more do you need to attest to it?
even worse this last season...all this regimen to keep Wade healthy to only fail in the Finals. it's why I don't stand by Wade until he proves himself for Miami again. I rather be the a-hole and tell him bye to bring in less-prone-to-injury Stephenson, at an even more discounted rate, too. Wade was good when he was Flash, but that's history and the past doesn't help us win going forward. in 2 yrs, I just hope Pat does the right thing and pay him the $5mil he deserves going forward or tell him retire and sit in the box seats where I am
Your turn.

Wade played great and Lebron didn't participate...but that was the strategy, let Wade shine. it just wasn't enough for the Heat to beat the Mavs.

Well, Dirk completely shat on him and then Jason Terry was there to stomp the feces into LeBalds mouth. LeBald also put up empty-stats the entire series and overall it looked like he was playing for the other team.
So I'd blame Dirk, Terry, LeBald.

i still think it was wade. I mean sure, you could have expect a LIttle more from
lebron in terms of scoring, but overall he wasn't bad. Check his rebounding and
assist numbers. Alot of people tend to ignore those and how they impacted the
game. The heat during those times had 2 good scorers in wade and bosh. Now in
wades case, it wasn't by any means terrible, just really low to his usual game.
He was meant to be the top scorer and lead his team past. Several times he
choked in big moments and just couldn't handle the pressure.
The real reason the the heat lost though was because the mavs were way too hot. The team was severely underrated with jason terry playing his best basketball, defensive juggernauts in chandler and marion and snipers of barea.

As pauk said, Wade was hogging the ball and isolating Lebron from "his" team.
And you, Pauk, and all the other imbeciles who swear by that nonsense are idiots.
Wade was no more aggressive than he was in the 2011 Eastern Semis against Boston where averaged 30-6-5, than he was in the 2011 Finals. And that didn't deter LeBron from being engaged through-out that series.
LeBron was terrible, and disengaged through no fault but his own.

As pauk said, Wade was hogging the ball and isolating Lebron from "his" team.
Here you go:
2011 finals stats:
Wade: 234 minutes, 61%TS, 11%TRB, 28.7%AST, 2.1%STL, 3.6%BLK, 10.4%TOV, 30.2%USG, 120 ORTG. 22.7 GMSC.
Lebron: 262 minutes, 54%TS, 10.6%TRB, 28.8%AST, 2.1%STL, 1%BLK, 19.5%TOV, 22.9%USG, 102 ORTG. 13.7 GMSC.
in case you don't know what GMSC (gamescore) is, it is: rough measure of a player's productivity in a game. 10 = average performance. So Lebron is slightly above average in the series, while Wade is worth more than 2 average players.
Wade beats Lebron in every stat except in AST% which is only .1% less. Think of it like this, Lebron was looking to pass on every possession and he still only ended up with the same assist rate as Wade, while wade was way more aggressive to score. All this while playing almost 30 minutes less than Lebron.
look at their turnovers. Lebron was twice as likely to turn it over than Wade, you want the ball in his hands even more?

If someone is to be blamed, it's unquestionably LeBron. There is no discussion to be had. However, the Mavs don't get anywhere near enough credit for gameplanning in that series. There's a lot more validity to Dallas being prepared than there is to the LeBron choking narrative.

You need to focus more on what Dallas did to put them in that position, and how they defended. This Mavs squad was a smart team, what they did was all very deliberate. I think focusing on narrative/psychoanalysis of LeBron is disrespecting what Dallas did.
Again, from watching the games, it seems obvious that Dallas forced Miami to play the way they did in that series. Everything was very organized, and perfectly executed.
Don't get me wrong. LeBron was a big disappointment for Miami in that series, and Wade was certainly the best player in the Finals (though Dirk became a god in the clutch during the series). But Dallas won that series, Miami didn't lose it. No question in my mind.

So how do the apologist's explain Lebron stinking it up while Wade was on the bench?
Also for those talking about Mavs strategy and execution, that's all fine and dandy when you're Lebron James though there is NO strategy that should have you avg 18 ppg.
People forget all throughout those playoffs Lebron was ON FIRE with his jumper, particularly the 3 pt shot, he lit up the Bulls and Celts and the Mavs (in Gm 1).
Mavs didn't do anything mystical, they loaded the side of the floor Lebron was on, gave him room (like Bowen in 07) inviting him to shoot jumpers and kept length at the rim in Chandler to contest his drives.
Bulls, did the same, Celts did the same. Difference being Lebron's jump shot COMPLTELY abandoned him in the Finals and it completely destroyed his confidence.
His lack of a strong will had MUCH to with it, there is always a psychological component despite with you Marc Cuban parakeets say. Once Lebron's jumper wasn't falling and Wade was on his way to winning FMVP, Lebron CLEARLY went into an emotional and psychological STATIS.
It started to affect his defense in the series too, he MELTED DOWN...weakest stuff I've ever seen from a superstar. Never thought I would have seen anything worse that Ewing in 94.

Perfectly said.
This notion that the Mavs had some secret strategy to neutralize LeBron is hilarious. They did what every scouting report says to do in regauds LeBron (the only thing you can do), load up on his side of the floor, protect the paint at all cost, limit him in transition, and force him to take jump shots.
It's the same strategy the Spurs would go on to use in the 2013 Finals, where LeBron once again struggled to score for the first three games (17 points on 38% shooting), until he figured it out somewhat in the following games.
You give credit for Dallas for ultimately out executing Miami for the series (and they did), but LeBron was an absolute mental midget during that series. It wasn't ALL on him, but he definitely takes the lion shares of the blame on the Heat's front(in addition to Spoelstra going with Mike Bibby as long as he did).

Me and Mark Cuban both agree that the role players and the coaching staff were the reasons why Miami lost. Lebron made the right plays more often than not.
Our opinion is worth more than the biased trolls in here because we had 100 of guys analyzing each game and each play.

But responsibility would be put on Lebron's shoulders, with him being the best player in the league at the time.
He's much, MUCh more focused now, but at the time he really was mentally weak. He all but admitted it too. You can't even say that he was just running the right plays in not shooting, at least for 2011.

You sure? I remember Lebron was agreed by the majority to being the best in the league at the time.
It's just Dirk stepped the **** up and Wade was being his usual great self. How would the league consider Wade being the best at time when the majority of the rumblings were about how he should just defer to Lebron?
If Wade truly was considered the best in the league there's no way Lebron would be considered 'the man' of the Heat come 2012, especially since he played so terrible in the 4th of the finals.

Bad memory.
After 2010 and Kobe's ring, many still held Kobe as the best player until dethroned, but mainly people were saying that Wade was the best as he was the 1st option on the Heat all years, especially in crunch time.
And that wasn't majority of the rumblings. The rumblings were that Lebron need to step up.

Lebron was clearly the best regular season player that year, and there wasnt much debate. The Durant supporters spoke up, but knew he was still a few years away from overtaking Bron. Kobe stans still held on to Kobe being the best, but knew better.
Now, IN THE POST-SEASON, the best player that year was CLEARLY Nowitzki. But the playoffs is not the entire year. So that may be where the misunderstandings between posters lies. Lebron was not a top-3 post-season player that post-season, despite being the best regular season player

The Mavs deserve credit for running the scheme they did, but LOL at people like Cuban trying to take full credit. The thing that makes a player a superstar is that you can't just take them out of their game like that.

eh.. I think cuban and carlisle should take some credit. They zoned up on him and placed good to great defenders and schemes on him to take him off his game. Pop mindfvcked him in 2013 just as bad the mavs did in 2011.. spurs just didnt play well to end the series while the mavs closed perfectly.

Miami loss game 4 and the chance to go up 3-1 because they lost 86-83. Bosh had 24 and Wade had a game high 32 points. LeBron?
8 points.
If LeBron even plays to 50 percent of his ability the Heat win and go up 3-1, basically ending the series. Something was obviously going on in his head because he was balling against the Celtics and Bulls in the previous series. I will never understand this series from LeBron.
If Wade was being selfish and all ball dominant it didn't seem to effect Bosh, who was the 2nd leading scorer on the team in that series.

The saddest part is that every single game was winnable even with how he was playing. The guy scored 8 points on 27/0/50 shooting in a game...and they only lost by 3 points. If he had made just one of his 3s and one more free throw, or one layup and two free throws..they win the game and go up 3-1 in that series.

Thank you. Most legit LeBron fans feel the same way. I'm not a Wade stan so I couldn't care less about LeBron "costing Wade a FMVP" or any of that nonsense. The '11 finals was a disaster, plain and simple, but LeBron bounced back and helped us win 2 championships. It is what it is.

I just want to know what was going on in LeBron's head from games 2-6. 2 time MVP, had a great regular season, was dominant against the Celtics and Bulls(who had the MVP), and was great in the 4th quarter against the Bulls and Celtics. Game 1 he dropped 24 points. Then he just came crashing down after that. How did he have a lack of confidence after all he had accomplished leading up to that?

The Mavericks are to blame for Miami losing. That's it. You people cry about the Spurs not getting exposure yet you refuse to give a great team like the 2011 Mavericks their due. Dirk's playoff run was one for the freaking ages and all you people can talk about is what the Heat did wrong.

This. Anyone blaming Wade is basically criticizing him for not having a perfect series. Wade had a couple of bad plays/mistakes, fine, he's merely human, he didn't disappear every 4th quarter and have a NINE point drop off in his scoring average like LeBron did.
