View Full Version : Someone recommend me an anime

Want to get back into it despite my better judgment. Preferably something that isnt stupid and gay as fck. Something with DBZ manliness and hype fight scenes. None of that school girl or loli shit Im not a pedo. Also nothing with a lot of fan service. Drawing of semi-naked teenage girls made by grown men who should know better dont excite me.
Also nothing too long. I hate shows that go on for so long like One Piece. Im pretty sure people have been born, lived meaningful lives and died during the time that show has been running. I dont want a show I will finish when I am 40.
Something intelligent like Death Note would also suffice.
Thanks in advance for you suggestions.

I should also add, nothing that looks like it was made in the 1960's.
EDIT
It also needs to have a great soundtrack.

The two on top are lauded for their soundtrack and they all look great. Great production values.
Yep Im aware of Bebop and Samurai Champloo. Have heard of but never checked out Black Lagoon.

It's very comparable to Bebop. Way more action + crisp visuals and you said you like that so....
Hmm very interesting...

Ive seen Hajime no Ippo, great anime. I saw a bit of Hellsing and it was a bit disturbing. Wasnt there like a rape scene of some kind early on? Not my kinda thing regardless.
Might check out this Psycho Pass, this is the first Ive heard of it though.

Maybe in the original series, I never saw it. Ultimate came out later and is considered to be a lot better.
I'd also recommend Baccano and Trigun.

its the same thing as Bebop basically, pretty much the same type of characters in the same type of universe. anime fans are real dumb to me. they get all happy Bebop ends talking about "way to go out when before it gets dumb", despite not much episodes, and all excited like Black Lagoon is so great  i mean i liked Bebop but i wanted more episodes...and really didn't like the ending either.
anyways i'm into the same fight based anime too, hate the other stuff with a passion. only ones i really like were dragonball(to me DBZ dragged like crazy), naruto(still following it, actually its my favorite even if it gets the mainstream hate), bleach, and honestly thats about it. i've tried a lot but they just aren't as good as them, and a ton are horrible imo(most).

shit on naruto all u want but its fukkin great...so much emotion, such profoundness, way deeper in ways than every shitty anime out there, altho it has its shitty sides too. but the emotion or poignant moments at times...nothing comes close. not even real movies or shows....people love to hate Naruto because its the most popular mainstream every kid loves it anime...but there is a reason for that.
i swear 3/4's of anime is gay as fukk. other than the ones i mentioned and some others~ but a lot of it is soooooo gay.
bleach is annoying sometimes but its got a edge. DBZ dragged the fukk out, those 5 minute power ups just watching them take a hard shit is fukkin awful.

i'm a naruto fan. i've been watching that show since i was a kid. naruto 75% of the time is absolutely shit. it kinda scares me that a grown man would say naruto brings out profound emotions. are u trolling? it isn't deep at all. naruto as a character is still shit, and most of the characters around him are. littered with plot holes too.

nope, most of it is great...naruto on the swing watching everyone graduate and him being a failure, the flashbacks to that always...the music kicking in being REAL melancholy(music in naruto is the best in anime)...theres messages there too like the typical 'never give up' one but Naruto emphasizes that better than all of them and you feel for him at times....shit can feel real serious too. i mean so many times...like Pein are with him and their little 3 person crew where they were starving and stealing until whatshisname came and showed them how to fight. those flashbacks were really sad....yeah i don't feel that with most REAL shows/movies but i swear its the music in Naruto with the scenes. I'm sure there are Naruto fans that just watch the action but if you don't think there is any deepness or profound there then you aren't looking. either way if you don't think that Ninja World is ruthless and hard you have no idea what you're watching. its some raw shit sometimes.
i've never pretended to be a mature dude, i'm into what i'm into. i grew up on comic books, its a natural progression to fighting anime IMO. its not like i watch Pokemon and shit...i only like the fighting stuff which is akin to most comics when i was younger. i think my generation is a lot more juvenile in tastes than most people realize...look at all of the comic book movies doing so well with older audiences...more older school grew up on much more boring shit imo.

yes. there are messages in almost every piece of media ever. naruto's message isn't profound at all and Naruto is terrible at emphasizing it. it's use of flashbacks to portray emotion is one of the most annoying things in anime, and Naruto does it ALL THE TIME.
Naruto isn't really that ruthless when you watch shit like Attack on Titan or Psycho Pass

I get where they're coming from. They probably felt like the show did everything it needed to do. I mean, there wasn't really a story. It's like Seinfeld. Leave on a high note type of thing. I mean, would you have liked it to be some massive epic like DBZ/Naruto and those other shows where it's like "what happens to the crew this week!". I feel like it has a lot of replay value if you put it off for a year or so. I liked it the way it was. It sucked that ended and I did really want more but it's also nice that they didn't stretch it out for the sake of stretching it out.
Why did you hate the ending, aside from the obvious?
It's funny how Jet and the black dude from Lagoon are nearly identical lmao
felt rushed to end or sudden, overly dumb shootout to acquiesce their fans but just felt shallow and i don't know. i liked some episodes of Bebop and some imo stunk. i liked that clown guy who was unstoppable episode kind of stuff and i liked the world it was in, plus the characters generally. i mean i like Black Lagoon too but to me itsthe same thing.

fukkin hate Attack on Titan, its like Death Note, overly depressive and drab garbage. I know Death Note is huge with anime fans but i just couldn't get into it but like i said i'm into fighting anime only really.....all of those try way too hard to be overly violent cynical and depressing...like u want to shoot yourself in the head after watching a episode. i mean if i want to buzzkill myself and take downers/depressants i'd watch that shit.
you won't ever convince me Naruto isn't deep or profound. wish i could school you with moments but i don't remember it well enough to do that, especially now. i'd have to go thru stuff to refrresh my memory but its by far the most profoundly deep anime out there with the best music in relation to emotion i've seen.

yeah a lot of people can't see cartoon like a real show/movie....but thats your issue. its like Planet of the Apes, some people won't ever get over talking apes...
i'll bite tho. its when they depict poor, broken people...nowhere to go in a every man for himself ninja world...some starving....some stealing....real sad music kicking in. parents/people die horrible deaths all around them....its raining all of the time. people come and abuse them. guy comes teaches them how to fight. they start making it in the world, things are lookiing up, you get attached to this 3 person crew(2 boys and a girl), they're trying to do good in the world, make the world a better place.....they trust in somebody powerful to make a bigger difference in the world....that somebody uses them...dude is sadistic...takes the girl hostage about to kill her but says if they kill their leader he'll let her live....remember you've felt for these kids u sort of journey'd with who made a huge turn around...he can't kill his boy so the leader throws himself into other guys knife or whatever to save the girl...music kicks in again(can't even explain but its always perfect to the mood with naruto)...powerful guy is laffing at them and they're fukked again...and become real jaded, then turn to bad guys(which becomes ambiguous later on because they still think they're doing good altho that event warped them)... you'd really have to see the Pein arc to understand.
stuff like that is deep and profound ^ ...and there is so much more to that i can't explain. this is just one example, theres a lot of instances of that throughout Naruto but Naruto is really long if you count Shippuden and ninja war....its got a bit of confucious philosophy as well where it tries to give meaning or deeper reasoning for things by some characters thoughts.
the other thing Naruto has that i don't see in other anime is tactical, thought out fighting...very team work emphasis but more logical in how they go about countering each other with explanations than any other anime i've seen.
man now i might have to marathon this again...
PS don't read the manga, you HAVE to watch the anime otherwise there is no emotion or not even much profoundess, and i bet that what that future crackhead jameer kid did....i read the manga right now only because i cant stand waiting to see what happens. anime moves real slow, but its amazingly done IMO. i emphasize the music they use is very perfect and emotional to the scenes.

definitely recommend Ninja Scroll, vampire hunter D,
i really like the atmosphere of Ghost in the Shell, something about the vibe and feel of it where it feels futuristic but real chill city-like...even like the intro/post music. the show itself is alright but for some reason i have this affinity for the vibe the show gives me which is unique.
think i saw Spriggan, can't remember but think that was good.
hated Akira tho...thought it was incredibly overrated.
there is another one that is really good too, its long and it follows this Ninja girl...i can't remember the name. i think she's escorting some kid or someone somewhere...i thought that was real good. damn the names of these are so hard to remember :facepalm

The begining of the story deals with "villains of the day" instead of sagas and arc villains. Kenshin is stronger than most of the initial villains so they in turn use dirty tactics. When it comes to the stronger villains the battles are more about strategy than power unlike Naruto and One Piece. Side characters are a more lot interesting compared to Naruto as there are only a few that matter there, so it's similar to One Piece in that sense.
It's an good anime, my only gripe is that in the dub Kenshin speaks like Yoda lol
Stephonit
02-22-2020, 12:41 PM
Actually I know Rurouni Kenshin. It's One Piece and Naruto that I don't know much about.
And yes when you think about it you realize Kenshin is the ultimate bullsh**ter. :lol
Animes are an acquired taste, something somebody likes you may not like equally much (or not at all) and vice versa.
But there is one i think anybody will like, even if you dont like Anime, you will have an absolute blast, i guarantee you!
ONE PUNCH MAN
After you have seen it you will desperately be wanting to see something else similar... there are very many, similar, but as good as this? NOPE....
EDIT: i think most will like DEATH NOTE aswell, for its thrilling plot.

oh ok, so i'll try without spoiling it
Naruto: Really fast paced, like the main characters go from being nobodies to having top tier abilities in 3 arcs. The fights in the beginning are essentially a mix of strategy and tactic, but as the characters get stronger the battles are more of a showcase of abilities and strength (think of like energy blast and tricks). Side characters suck, there's only a handful of character that matter in the story. The villains are honestly more interesting than 90% of the characters (and that includes the titular one). Naruto is basically Dragon Ball jr without the tournaments essentially (though there is one which many fans think it's the best arc in the series)
One Piece: Fast paced like Naruto, but with a lot of world building instead which is why it's been going on for longer. Fights are mostly brawls as almost every abilities in the show is used to fight in hand to hand combat unlike Naruto. There's some sword fights but they're nothing like Samurai X, it's basically who can take the most damage. Side characters are more interesting here compared to Naruto. Multiple villains, some which are very popular to the point that the come back and some extremely powerful to the point that the main character can barely beat them.
Both series use arc and sagas that build into a final confrontation against main villain, tho the series at a point make its clear who are the main villains of the show.
Also; Naruto has a lot of useless filler that add nothing to the story. If you will watch that show I would look up the filler list online to make sure you don't watch them
As far as most badass anime movies goes i recommend:
Ninja Scroll
Fist of the North Star
Vampire Hunter D
Sword of the Stranger

Masaaki Yuasa has directed some interesting stuff, at the very least they tend to be visually very different then other anime. Ping Pong, Kaiba, Tatami Galaxy and Devilman Crybaby are all worth checking out, the last one being on netflix.

if you want anime movies with universal appeal, try Miyazaki films
if you want anime action with great visuals & fight scenes, watch the Berserk Trilogy
Depends on what exactly you're looking for in an anime. If you're looking at the story, the length of episodes, the design of the characters and their personalities or any other aspects in them. I know one anime that I think is awfully bad though. Pokemon it is. :D

oh ok, so i'll try without spoiling it
Naruto: Really fast paced, like the main characters go from being nobodies to having top tier abilities in 3 arcs.
If you will watch that show I would look up the filler list online to make sure you don't watch them
Those series will take him 1-2 years to catch up/finish, what do you mean fast pace lol? Both are literally the complete opposite of fast paced storytelling.

Slam Dunk. Basketball series, one of the best sport series ever and has one of the baddest fvcking main characters. Its pacing is a little off here and there and has hardcore 90s animation, but it's got a great OST, development and really right games towards the end of the series but most important, it's got heart. Huge downside is the anime ends at around 80% of the actual series, and you have to read the manga to finish it.. which I think you have to because the last game is basically on some game 7 NBA final shit, with some of the best art you will literally ever see. Like seeing them on a piece of paper, filled with pure, unfiltered hype.
Ending is a bit abrubt, as I think the series probably could (NOTE: should) have been twice as long.

On the same note, if you also read manga. Try Real. It's from the same author but with wheelchair basketball theme. It arguably is better than Slam Dunk.

Been meaning to read it. The dude is a f*cking beast, guy draws and it looks like you're watching a movie looking at the imagery.
Also on the new redesign, aren't there notifications if someone quotes my post? Isn't that the whole point of having the feature, why didn't I get one?

Fast paced in term of story. Things will happen in the story which episodes later will be left in the dust. Remove the fillers and most of what happens in naruto happens in a span of weeks with a 2 year break.
For example: Naruto and Sasuke go from being jonin fodder (Zabuza) to fighting an S rank criminal(Ororchimaru) in a matter of episodes

Was waiting for a season 2 of this, since a lot of people shared stuff about it. Anyway this anime is very epic.

I think you're the first to say OP has a fast story lol.. As for Naruto, I think the beginning has fantastic pacing (and it's at its best there for me), but then it definitely starts to take its time more and more as the story progresses. The only long term anime series that quickly gets to the point would Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Attack on Titan for me. If the writer of OP or Naruto was writing Attack on Titan, we would still be somewhere around season 2 by now.
I think both are great series, I just don't agree about the pacing of the story

After rewatching Haikyuu I have to say it's a top 5 anime of all time maybe even top 3.
It's a f*cking masterpiece
Finally finished watching Bleach and it was amazing, I don't know why it took so long for me to watch it
Can't wait for the TYBW arc to be adapted next year
btw Aizen is a top 5 villan in all of fiction, and the reveal was one of the greatest twists ever.
Bleach might be better than Naruto & DBZ

The chunin exams and the pain arc are infinitely better than the Soul Society arc
And take this from a guy who used to read bleach manga online back when it was a weekly release, nobody in their right mind back then thought bleach was better than Naruto
I like bleach, it has cool action and a really good villain. Aside from that the MC sucks, his supporting cast sucks aside from the Quincy, and the power ups are just shit the author comes up with last minute. If you’re looking for character development, I would advise against watching bleach

This. The Zabuza Arc is the GOAT introduction to a shonin anime series as well. Bleach is average.
The first two arcs of Naruto were god tier but the final war arc was so bad it soured my opinion on the series as a whole
I haven't seen the final arc in Bleach yet but I can guarantee that it's better than Narutos final arc

Just put you hopes down a little, and don’t expect a climatic ending like the Aizen battle

Watched an episode of it. I don't really like it but I totally get why it is getting up steam recently. Somebody has to fill the hole of Attack On Titan AND Demon Slayer left after both manga series have ended. There seemingly are Chainsaw Man (which the anime is coming) and this show right now.

I'm so hyped for Chanisaw man, haven't read the manga but it's supposed to be really good like Jujutsu Kaisen
