Watch "The Waterboy." That will be his comeback story and be on 60 minutes ESPN in 10 years. Calling it now

I expected more than he's shown but I didn't ever expect him to be a star. Going into college I thought he would be good but by draft time I didn't expect much.

One player that would have definitely benefited from staying another year in college.

he can be a solid bench player at best imo. hes a ballhog and theres no team in hell that will start a mediocre ballhog. his head is too big, its good to be confident but he needs to come down to earth. he will never be a starter unless he makes huge leaps in his game

Wonder how Rivers felt afterwards. All Harden did was give him a light tap on the leg and he fell back like he got tackled

I think Porter will surprise some people and give the Wizards a productive season. He looked great in the summer league and hopefully his improvement travels into the regular season. Rivers meanwhile...

Porter had injuries early last year, I expect he will look much better this season.

His father was actually a really good defender, and was a waaay better player than Austin.

Really should have stayed in school. Game was way too raw entering the league, but he was chasing that money. Rode his name and North Carolina game winner all the way to the draft.

I saw some games where he played in college. agree on should have stayed in school.
but it's probably more about his work ethic than anything else in terms of his performance in the NBA so far.
he HAS the ability to get the shot off, how he isn't a consistent shooter (stamina/form/etc) as well as those piss poor FT%.
he could be a mini Durant for all we know, but he needs to knock down those shots.

He'll never be a starter on a legit team. I think he can hang on a roster somewhere for like 10 years because of his name though.

well, he's got 2 more years left on this contract.
I don't see teams eager to give him a contract longer than 2-3 years right after this if that.
so you're saying he will hang around the league with about 3 more teams willing to hand him a contract.
unless he has a break out season.

Would like to see him on a different team before 100% writing him off.

Y, guys like Telfair Rivers Mayo got too much hype and just couldn't translate their game to the next level, USA loves to hype players and talk about "next someones" but they don't always pan out.

I assumed this bump meant he got waived. He has a team opt out after this year and the Pels got stuck when the salary cap was a few hundred grand less than expected. It left them trying to find a way to consummate the Asik trade which all of a sudden became illegal.
The most widely speculated option was to waive Rivers. I still think it will happen before the cap locks in.
A top 10 pick that is waived after his second year is OFFICIALLY A BUST.

did people really expect him to be much?
I mean he was a top 3 prospect in high school and a lottery pick in the draft, people definitely didn't expect him to be this horrible.
Looking back he may have been a 'little' overrated because of who his daddy is.

Telfair was a product of the NYC hype train+ Coney Island savior (think He Got Game)+ Marbury relation... all the red flags were there looking back at the fact that he couldn't shoot and his tiny stature
Mayo was just older than everyone+ he was an early bloomer... combine those two facts and you had a man playing amongs boys, I would say HS OJ was just as good as NBA OJ:oldlol:
Austin played 6A basketball in Florida and looked elite... he lost his #1 NCAA player ranking within like 2 weeks at Duke when everyone realized his fancy dribbling did not help him score one bit (+Ant Davis was beasting)... he was labeled a tweener and TO problems and lack of court vision excluded him from playing PG. It hasn't helped that physically he still has the body of a HS senior so NBA level competition is pure struggle for him. If he had elite shooting like Steph Curry he could get away with his body-type but in HS he was a penetrate and score/dish player so in the paint is where he would ideally want to be...
